Hmm... on the fence on this one. I could argue both for it and against it. In my current state of mind, it would probably be negative, but it's still a quote that makes me think, so kudos.

I think it is pretentious to feign understanding an all-powerful, all-knowing being, however fictional.

Thanks! I am trying to find the provenance of

"Don't believe in anything you can't see, smell, touch or at the very least infer from a good particle accelerator run"

and see if it would make it to [info]wurds, but it may be a bit too much.

I adore Tristan's writing and the fact that she's also easy on the eyes doesn't hurt either. She's that rare blend of beauty, intelligence and wit.

An unfortunate name, but it does not explain if it is a Thor particle, an Allah particle, a Jesus particle, a Yehovah particle, or whether there is a Famke Janssen (goddess) particle with opposite charge.

do you find that you have problems in your day to day relationships based on your overtly confrontational nature? I disagree with you. God is not dead, that's not something that a God can do. Perhaps you believe God never existed, but then I say to you that it is unlikely someone as arrogant as you will have the wherewithal to prove it coherently. All hail Jesus. Peace be with you.

God abandoned this shithole rock when we killed jesus. do you mean to tell me some all powerful, perfect being just keels over when you kill their son? seems like someone writes the rules as they go along. right, whatsoever you hold true on earth... right, so then some old men with funny hats get to tell god what to do?

religion is shit. and insulting to any omnipresence to the point that they'd rather just go create other galaxies to mettle in a long slow suicide.

(Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

[info]endlessbouncing
2008-04-26 08:07 am UTC (link)
I don't mean to tell you that at all. Jesus died and -came back-, and God was never truly dead. Do you mean to tell me four pieces of iron and a bit of mountain air can kill God? The hats are only symbolic of a deeper hatness. That rule exists so that people, acting in good faith, can lead others to God without being afraid that they'll transgress some obscure heavenly law and end up damning everyone to an eternity in hell. The christian faith does not exist to contradict what God wants. It exists to express love for all mankind.

As to that last line, you certainly know a lot about the unknowable, especially for a human.

people weren't made in god's image. gods were made in man's image so they'd have something to aspire to while they destroy the world trying to play god.

You spent all night trying to come up with another pithy statement you could throw out to pollute the internet even further? That's not an argument, its just your attempt to get quoted.

Its an accepted fact that the majority of muslims are not terrorists. The majority of christians do not have political aspirations, only aspiring to be better people. The majority of christians who have political aspirations don't aspire to play God. The few politicians who use God to justify a morally shaky position are simply morally bankrupt, or atheists.

Are you going to stop reading off the big list of obscure incendiary quotes any time soon? Or do you need a crutch?

C.S. Lewis was probably right with what he stated.

And what this quote states seems to be proven by this entire entry... Admittedly fighting online, leaving defamatory remarks about a dead man and his philosophies - Very passive, and quite "soft".

Just because you have no belief in God or a higher power, it doesn't mean you should instantly judge someone who has a career that spawns movies, millions of books in multiple languages, and people that think twice about their 'faith'.

C.S. Lewis is inspiring to many people, like J.R.R. Tolkien, and other writers he used to meet and converse with at a pub in his college town.

He even inspires an atheist(somewhat) like me.

RIP Dr. Lewis.

Nice quote.
