Sometimes all it takes is that one step, and that leads to a life time.

I could have stayed in Gloucester after high school, hey I could have stayed at UMASS in Worcester and stuck near my family, but... there's something more out there, something bigger. Something better. Not just for me, for all of us.

I want to find it. I'm going to find it. My name is Anika-Amadi. I'm a Med Student.

And yes, I know it sounds silly because I only have two hands. And I can't change the world, right? But ever since I was a little girl I believed that - if I can't change the world for the better - maybe I can help someone who will.

I'm Gene Siskel, film commentator for the Chicago Tribune and co-host of "Siskel and Ebert". Obviously I'm here under the fictionalized premise that I had not died nine years ago due to complications from brain surgery, and that I've spent the last nine years living, being a successful critic and columnist, and being a happy part of a family, newspaper, and tv show. Frankly, I think I would have wanted it that way.

I write primarily about movies, the entertainment industry, actors, filmmakers, Hollywood practices and techniques, and of course I write for the paying audiences that make the movies what they are more than any critic possibly could. I also occasionally cover Chicago sports. I can't help it. I love the Bulls and the Sox.

I have a wonderful wife and three beautiful kids. Call me a softie, but being a husband and father means infinitely more to me than being a critic. My family is all the happiness I could ever possibly get out of life. That's not to say I don't love my job. On the contrary, I'm competitive and passionate about my work as a journalist. There's a certain amount of duty a guy feels to be in the know, to be sharp, and to get the readers thinking. And despite my argumentative side, I really do like people and enjoy meeting and talking to them.

I hope I can do justice to the topics and measure up to so many of the other writers here. For the Chicago Tribune, I'm Gene Siskel.

There is a reason for that. Even his everyday banter is crisp, entertaining and interesting. Recently, Ferrett attended the Clarion Writer's conference. The whole series this past week about what went on there definitely inspired me to find some way, somehow to go myself . However, the best post of all is this morning's post, Lessons Learnd In Revision.

I came away with the feeling that I had just been hit over the head by the Writer's Cosmic Clue by Four.

For those of us who write fiction, I cannot recommend it enough. If you never read another entry of Ferrett's LJ, please read this one. You will come away having learned something, I promise. I rather do love meeting new people, after all.

I'm Sarah Jane Smith, then, from Earth and a journalist for the Metropolitan at that. Don't let my column on women's lib deceive you, though. I've been quite busy recently trying to work my way into investigative work. Well, when not busy travelling, that is. My best friend, you see, has this lovely little habit to draw me away from my career for months on end.

His name is the Doctor, if you've heard of him by chance. Amazing man with this even more amazing ship, you see. She's called the TARDIS and takes us all over time and space. Quite the life, really, even if we do have a horrible habit of finding trouble more often than not.

Still? I doubt I'd trade it for anything.
I ain’t so good at these introduction things. I keep thinkin’ I’m s’posed to make some kinda lastin’ impression. Not only a lastin’ impression but a good one. Who can handle that kinda pressure?

If you were all guys, I’d flash my cleavage and be done with it.

But no. It’s not even visual, so pssh. I gotta do the talk thing which I’m totally okay with, it’s just I can’t really be bothered to think of anythin’ good to say. I mean, what is there? My name’s Rogue (better than Madonna thanks, but just as lackin’ in the last name). I currently live in Princeton but I travel a lot to New York for work. I'm in Princeton cos it's where my fiancé--Dr. Robert Chase--is. I moved here a few months back before we did the whole engaged thing, but now we're doin' the engaged thing and I'm a crap bride-to-be. I keep forgettin' what I'm s'posed to be doin'.

My job ain’t somethin’ I can talk about, and I guess I shouldn’t even call it a job. It’s a community service, or whatever. It sure as shit ain’t a cause, okay? Well, okay maybe it is. But I wear leather, so it’s fine.

Yes, I like talkin’ about sex, I also like havin’ it but that’s a whole other kettle of fish, or whatever, so get your minds out of the damn gutters. There’s few that I’ll both talk to about sex, and have it with.

I flirt, I swear, I get girlish, I like leather and all kindsa naughty things, I drink whiskey, I adore Spongebob Squarepants, I’m an insomniac, I can switch my moods at the drop of a hat, and yes the streaks are real, but no you can’t get ‘em at a hairdresser. These you only get from dyin’.

…And I’m nice, I promise.

So anyway, hey.

One day, when I was a child, I came home from playing with my friend Sufi to find my mother and father being hosts to a wanted terrorist. It was clear from the fear in their eyes that he wasn't welcome, but they had no choice. He showed me his AK-47, but I refused to take it. Later that evening, I remember my little sister walking into the room just as the masked men forced themselves through the door and opened fire. I didn't know it then, but they were police. In all the smoke that filled our house, only I lived. They killed my family, including my little sister. The eyes of the man in the mask haunt me to this day.

I was taken away, and a few days later I found that I was adopted by Inayat Khan and his wife Neelima, who had just lost their own son. Khan-saab was the IG of the Kashmir police. Slowly I came to call them ammi and abba. I still had nightmares, but I was happy again. Until the day, when I was eleven, that I found a mask in Khan-saab's desk. It was then I realized, he was the man in the mask...the man who had led the attack on my family's home.

I tried to kill him that night with his revolver, but I was too scared, so I ran away. I was taken in by a Pathan, Hilal, and I was trained as a jihadist. He called me his child, and his missile. Now, it is ten years later, and I am back in India-controlled Kashmir, to carry out his orders and Mission: Kashmir.

And also to kill Khan-saab. My name is Altaaf Khan.

(OOC: Altaaf is from the 2000 Bollywood movie, Mission Kashmir, as such I will be keeping him pre-9/11, although if he learns of that and the subsequent wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, he'll deal with it. He is open for RP, as despite being a terrorist bent on personal revenge, he's a nice guy.)

Some of you the members have indicated a concern for the storylines that you write ending up being "borrowed" by others outside of writers_muses, and indeed off of Livejournal itself. The general rule of thumb is to cover your kiester and insure your creativity. We want you to feel safe and we want to lessen the chances of someone stealing what you, our members write. I can understand your concerns. I am a screenwriter, too, and sometimes within the cesspool of unoriginality that is Hollywood filmmaking and indeed in novel writing, things get ripped off. We certainly do not want that to happen to anyone here. We have some top drawer writers with great ideas and your safety matters to us..

That is why I am putting down the policy that as writer within this community, please feel free to friends lock your posts on writers_muses. Does this mean you are going to be 100% protected if someone decides to steal your plotline? No. Unfortunately, it doesn't. But it will at least slow the less-than-honest down a little bit and give more of an avenue by which to go after someone if the worst were to happen. If you have not added the community to your friends list, you might want to do that in order to read the things that others who do lock their posts put up.

Thanks for airing your concerns and coming to us with things like this. We want to make it a safe place for all.

Sincerely

The Mods

writers_muses Introduction: Frances & Jet Owens

Aunt Jet: Oh, Look Fanny! There's Sally *waving* Hellooooo, my darling! Look! There's Sally! Sallyeee!!! *looking around* I don't see Gilly, though. Hmm...I just wonder where she might be. Oh, well! I am sure she will show up soon. Fanny have you seen Gilly? *looks around through the sea of people*

Aunt Frances: Sit down, Jet. You are going to embarrass poor Sally and then she'll start complaining about not having any friends again. By the way your slip is showing.

Aunt Jet: It is? Oh, my! *covers up and shifts uncomfortably* And there are all these people looking at us. *forced smile and a fingerwave* Hellooooo!

Aunt Frances: My! Look at all these people. *huskily and trying to sound ever-so-mysterious* Hello. I am Frances Owens and this is my sister, Jet. I think my niece, Sally has already given her introduction.

Aunt Jet: *finger wiggle* Helloooooo!

Aunt Frances: *irritated* Yes, you just said that.

Aunt Jet: Yes, I know. conspiratorially to her sister* Do we have enough tequila for this many?

Aunt Frances: I don't know. I was more worried about the limes. I know we have enough salt.

Aunt Jet: Well of course we do, Darling. We're Witches! Where would we be without salt? It's sort of one of our tools in trade! *giggles*

Aunt Frances: *ignoring her sister's last quip and addressing the group again* My...there are so very many of you! As you might have guessed, my sister and my niece, well, we're a bit..different. We just thought we would join this little group. We've heard so much about it.

Aunt Jet: And seen it, too! We've been looking in our scrying mirror and we feel like we know so many...*gasps as her sister's elbow lands in her ribs to silence her* Ooof! Oww! What did you do that for?

Aunt Frances: Do what? *giving a brilliant smile and feigned innocence* Anyway...We are getting forward to knowing more about each of you. And we hope that you will not be strangers and come by sometime. So.....*looks around the room* Anyone need any help with their love life?

OOC: Jet and Frances (Fanny) are new to LJ, writers_muses and are very personable, if not a little strange.
Introduction: Sally Owens

Yes, I know the stories that the Aunts have told my sister Gilly and me, ever since we were little girls:

'For over two hundred years, we Owens women have been blamed for everything that has ever gone wrong in this town..."

And after our parents died, Gilly and I and of course the Aunts, were always blamed for everything. We were always teased and taunted by our classmates. Aunt Jet used to simply explain that we Owens women always created a stir, and then she and Aunt Frances and she would both in one form or another proceed to stir the pot in the community with their love spells that could be bought for a price. And always there was the strange assortment of animals that always lived in and around the huge Victorian house that we call home. Some said they were mythological beasts, when really the most exotic thing we ever had around here was a ferret that got lose from our classmate, Donnie Lanham because he kept lighting its tail on fire! I think for as long as I can remember, Gilly and I have always wanted to get free of this place, away from the called out taunts and the blame for every petty little natural occurrence that ever happens to anyone else. If codependency were a Country, Crescent Harbor would be its undisputed capital city. Gillian has been spending more and more time away from home with that swimming pool salesman. It looks and feels like it could be serious. Me, I think I am going to stick my nose back in a book and hopefully not have to think about it too much right now.

I better get to bed. Tomorrow I go to the bank to see if I can get a loan for my store, Verbena. If I am stuck in this place, I may as well make a go of it doing something I love.

OOC: Sally is a muse I have had for awhile and am breathing new life into, hopefully, here in WM. She is pretty chatty at times and is completely open to RP. :)

This is all new to me. Usually when I'm introducing myself, it's more along the lines of "Hi, I'm Dr Browne. Please bend over, this is going to hurt a little." But in the world without latex gloves and syringes, my name is Riley Browne, I'm 25 and based in Princeton, New Jersey.

I'm a doctor working towards specialties in Emergency Medicine and Intensive Care. Right now I'm working in the Emergency Room at Princeton Plainsboro Teaching Hospital and doing my residency there (which has now come to be a large portion of why I've ended up in therapy). Previously, I finished my med degree at Edinburgh University followed by a year internship at the Royal Edinburgh Infirmary in Scotland.

I'm part of a twin set, though we're far from identical. My lil sis by three minutes is Tab Browne (asinthecity). She's a rocker and fronts her own band in New York. We're as close as about any twin set can be and leaving her to move to Scotland for three years was the hardest thing I've ever had to do in my life.

Not much else really to know. I have nothing much to hide, so feel free to ask me any questions.

Cheers,

- Riley

- Riley is an Original Character based in the House, M.D. fandom. He is connected to a few other House canon muses floating around the place and also to Original Character, asinthecity

As many of you know, we, the Mods of Writers Muses have a no tolerance policy toward the drama that is allowed to go on in and around some Communities. In the 42 weeks we have been in operation we have been proud to say that our members have honored our request for this Community to be a safe haven from wank, and simply a place for some of the finest writers to come and express themselves in a safe space.

We were proud to have laid claim to all of that before yesterday/early this morning when the post was made to the Mun Prompt which I created. Sometimes even we the mods do not make the best choices for prompts, and such was the case yesterday. If we had thought for an instant that it would have incited further hurt feelings and opening up of raw wounds, it never would have been posted. However, intentional or unintentional, it happened. The offending post and the prompt have been removed and the mun and their muses have removed themselves from the community.

It is our hope that there is never again a need for us to write a post such as this, and we are here to encourage others to do the same, none of us are here to spread negativity, there is enough of that elsewhere in the world. So, that said, we value you our members, and we stand by our commitment to keep Writers Muses as a safe haven for those who share our joy of the written word. Thank you for being part of our vision. If anyone has anything that they need to have addressed, we hope that you the membership will turn to the mods and let us help in keeping this group the safe haven that we envision it to be.

JD on behalf of the Writers Muses Mods

Earlier today, actually at four in the morning, I wrote a mun prompt response that, given the current climate and issues that had been going on, was extremely ill advised. First of all, I assure you that it was not then, nor is it now, in any way an "attack" on any writer here or elsewhere. It was, simply, a declaration of my personal feelings on the topic, and a statement of my view on how I feel about the topic's issues as they were presented, which are views I have posted privately before. No individuals were mentioned, nor specifically intended. However, it was far more strongly stated than was advisable, and for that, I do apologize profusely.

Additionally, it was viewed by some people I respect greatly as a criticism of them, and that, as well, was not intended. To those persons, I deeply apologize. I failed to remember that as stressed and as raw as my feelings have been lately, so have been the feelings of others. Overall, given the situation, it was very poor judgment on my part to have posted that prompt response. I have removed it from Donna's journal, and again, I truly apologize to anyone who may have been offended, and to the mods.
