About
What we're about: This community is intended to host the writing process for the information and, possibly, amusement of other writers and any nonwriters who might be interested in observing the creative process. This is not a collaborative community or a beta-reading community.

Disclaimer: The writers hosted here make no claim to having the best skills, the best stories, or the best process - we make no claims to anything except that we write stories, and are willing, herein, to try an experiment in which we lay our writing process open to public view, with the intent of encouraging discussion of that process.

Commenters: Understand that you are entirely free to comment on and discuss what is posted here at will. However, please understand also that the writers whose processes and fiction are hosted here are not thereby requesting input or guidance, and are under no obligation to agree with, incorporate, or even respond to any suggestions you may make. Again, this is not a community for co-writing, beta-ing, or advice-seeking; it is intended to make the writing process transparent for those who are interested in observing and discussing that process. Writers may choose to ask for input, and may choose to accept it, but they may also choose to entirely ignore any comments or criticism posted in response to their work. This is in no way meant to stifle conversation or questions, just to make clear that seeking writing assistance is not the goal of this community. Understand further that the writing process is sometimes slow and sometimes boring. There are no deadlines here, no guarantees of daily posts or even weekly posts (although we hope these will be "live" fics that are worked on regularly), and no promise of a finished fic at the end. You are always free to wander away or nap when we get boring, which I can all but guarantee will occur.

Writers: No requirements to join beyond having a solid fic idea that you intend seriously to work on, and a willingness to post your writing process as it occurs. You need not post more often than daily, even if you write in little bits several times a day, but when you write anything for your chosen story, please remember to post it, be it ever so humble. Be it nothing more than a one-sentence note. That's the whole point here - the process, warts and all. This isn't a help community, although it's entirely possible that if you ask for help you'll get it. Please don't join if you're just looking for advice. The community is for writers willing to show their raw stuff to the world, and to show how they whip that raw stuff into something resembling a story. Please note: This community is open to anyone who wishes to join. That's the point. Do not join if you aren't comfortable with the wide world seeing - and discussing - your work from its very early stages on through to its finished state. I strongly suspect this will not exactly stroke our egos (as ego-stroking isn't the point), so be warned.

Writers, note!: This community is not an archive. It is meant only as a one-time window to your process. Please do not make this your primary story file. Write your story the way you normally write it, on your own computer/word processor/notepad/whatever. Then post copies of your work here. Do not rely on the vicissitudes of the Net, LJ, or me to keep your work safe!

Format: One story per writer, for now, please. Post with a story slug, be it a real title, working title, "so-and-so's story," just something. You may edit posts, but try to leave your old stuff up and add new stuff as you create it, even if the new supersedes the old. The point is to see the whole process, including mistakes. You may either make new posts as you write and rewrite, or add to old posts (to the character limit, of course, at which time please begin a second post and link). I recognize this will make for a lot of posts, some of which will be redundant, but that is precisely the point. We want the whole process visible. That said, please do what you find easiest, because we want to watch you write, not interfere with your writing.
