  The Rules
  
  1. Your submission can be any length but it must fall within the given parameters of the topic and meet restrictions listed. There should be a short synopsis and the story should be under an LJ cut.
  
  2. You can write about past topics. Just make sure you mention what topic you are writing on. Past topics can be found under the MEMORIES section.
  
  3. Constructive criticism is encouraged but bashing is not. If you post a story please critique others, even if you only comment on a few stories a week that helps the writer with a direction for revision and lets them know people are reading their work and they aren't posting in vain.
  
  4. Please don’t make a separate introduction posts. Instead either say you’re new in the “comments” section of the topic’s post or state it when you send in your first story. That way not only do we get to say “Hi there” but we get to know a bit more about you at the same time.
  
  5. It might help to write your story before reading others on the topic, but since we are all writing about the same thing, keep plagiarism accusations to a minimum.
  
  6. Since this community is about having fun and self improvement you may post up to two revisions of the same story.
  
  7. Work friendly icons and language on the main page please.
  
  8. If you have topic idea that you think everyone with like, place it in the “Topic” comments on Friday. This way it gives us time to consider it, and apply it to the next Friday’s Topic.
  
  9. Other writing communities may advertise here once per community.
  
  10. Follow the TOS.

  Critiques
  
  Sometimes its hard to critique others people's work. Instead of just saying “That was good/bad…” expound further with why you felt it was good or bad, it gives the author something to work with. Here are some suggested guidelines if you need help.
  
  Setting - Can you visualize the place the characters are in? Or do they seem to be standing in a black void? (note: that only applies if "black void" is not that week's setting)
  
  Characters - Do the main characters have distinct personalities? Can you image how they would behave in a context outside of the story?
  
  Storyline - Was it interesting? Did it keep you wanting to read more? Did it seem mundane? Did you enjoy it?
  
  Writing Style - Can you follow the story easily? Does the prose sound good? Is it too flowery? Is it not flowery enough? Is the same term used too many times? Do the beginning of sentences vary? Is the dialogue incorporated well?
  
  Technical - Do paragraphs start where they should? Are words misspelled? Are there grammar mistakes? Run-on sentences? Fragments that don't seem to work well?
  
  
  Other Stuff
  
  It helps to use Word or any other word-processing program to check spelling and things of that nature. But just remember, when you copy and paste, “tab” doesn’t translate to Live Journal. You have to actually place the spaces or otherwise it will be one block of text.
