Alchemist's Stone question

I've been sitting on the pattern to upgrade my regular Alchemist's Stone since about 1 week after the 2.4 patch hit. I play a priest who is on the verge of trying out shadow priestiness full time (as soon as that pesky dps caster trinket decides to drop from the princess boss). Anyway I am have been wondering whether it's possible to upgrade my stone to the Sorcerer's one but then start back at the beginning, make the bits and bobs for another regular stone to upgrade to the Redeemer's version for as and when I heal... Or if I decide that shadow isn't for me.
Does anyone know if it's possible to hold 2 different stones?
I'm not wanting to equip both together - only the dmg one with the healing one in the bank for when I end up having to respec & heal.

alchemy and transmutation

EDIT*** WOW! Thanks for all of the information everyone. I learned a lot! All of my questions were answered, and then some, which is why I am so glad to be a part of this comm. THANKS AGAIN!!

First of all, let me say, I can't imagine how crappy a player I'd be if it wasn't for this community. Everyone has always been so helpful and I really appreciate that.

Ok, now that I've buttered everyone up, here's my reason for posting today. I have my druid to Outlands, so YAY!. But, I went to do training for alchemy and after I hit 325 there are no more spells for me to train to. I went to both the trainer in Shat as well as the one at Honor Hold. I looked it up on Wowwiki and it only lists those two trainers, plus a horde trainer in Thrallmar I believe it was. Do I have to go to Thrallmar? Can I go to Thrallmar?

Also, when do I get to chose my specialization and where do I go for it? I want to do transmutation on this character because my hubby is leveling a character that's going to specialize in potions.

And one last question, Nelf druid, alchemist, so which is best Scryor or Aldor?

As usual, thanks in advance for any and all help.

Alchemy question

My newest alt is an alchemist, and I'm thinking (waaay far in advance) about spec...

I seem to remember reading that while Transmute spec was borked for essentially forever, it got fixed... I just can't remember when/where I read it, or if I didn't just imagine it completely.

Anyone out there have a link? Or any transmute alchemists who know for certain? Thanks!

Mishmash of questions

I have a few largely unrelated questions I've been meaning to ask. But rather than spamming several posts, here they all are.

Pondering my professions.

Maybe I'm going about this wrong. Help?

Alch seems so *helpful*.  :(  I love having healing potions and minor buff pots, my husband (also running a hunter) likes them and the and even though the pally I run with occasionally burns through more mana than my potions provide, he likes them all the same.

But. I'm running herbalism/alchemy on my L21 Dwarf hunter (around 150 on both) and I find myself wondering -  how on *earth* does anyone make any cash on this? There are days I'm making more on drops than I am in the AH.  Low level herb stacks are selling for diddly on Kirin. And the pots I can make at journeyman aren't selling at all. I use what I can, but my guild certainly doesn't seem to need them....

Meanwhile, my L13 Draenei hunter is hipdeep in mining/skinning, and thus I can expect 2-3 gold per trip to the AH. And that was just with copper. Now that I've leveled high enough for access to tin, that means bronze, and just two more points means silver. Then it will get insane. Skinning - enh. Not so much. The money's in mining. So much so that i've already switched my 18 Belf hunter to the same thing, and she's making book as well.

What am I doing wrong with herb/alch? It's a really darn easy set to level with, but  can't see how I will ever get to the point of being able to afford new gear or heck, my mount at 40!

Discoveries

I was lucky this week and got three transmute discoveries in a row. I've had one elixir discovery and I was wondering why I haven't had more. Can you get a discovery off of gray items like Super Mana Potions? Or would I need to brew up something green/yellow/orange? I got my transmute discoveries from primal earth to water transmutes which I blow every night. Perhaps I was just exceptionally lucky? Give me the low down ladies.

Pots

So, I gave a guildie 20 Adepts Elixir's and another guildie 10 Onslaught Elixir's.

My boyfriend (As well as the people I gave them to) were like "Wow. Raiding supplies for a month!" One guildie, who I hadn't talked to much or anything said, "You rock. Why don't I know you?"

Does anybody else wonder why everyone is gaga over this? I had the supplies, and they're easy to make. Or is that just me? In return someone offered to make me a nifty robe to improve what I've got. Yay.

Anyway, my favorite day of the week is "Jazu needs to get rid of all her crap" and I proceed to give away free items that I've collected and don't need or want.

Master of Transmutation

Happy Monday morning ladies.  ::winces at the chorus of moans::

I have some issues about being a Master of Transmutation I want to discuss.

I hit 362 in my alchemy and I'm picking up the odd points here and there doing transmutes for tips.  Though by all reports the proc rate sucks, I want to choose to be a master of transmutation (another guildmate is Potions) and am nearly done farming the primals needed for the mights to do that.  Anyway,  last week someone was on trade asking for a primal might xmute.  I offered to do it and he asked if I was a master.  When I said not yet he said "Nevermind then.  I want the chance at extras.  Sorry."  So this took me aback a little having read a discussion (on the WoW forums I believe) a month or two ago about this.  I responded and told him it was no problem, but that he might find it difficult to find someone willing to give away extras if the mastery proced and that I certainly wouldn't.  His response was "Really?  I've gotten the extra procs before."  Well I mean, unless it was a friend or a guildie or something who would do that??   I'm getting the impression that a lot of people do.

Over the weekend someone else was asking for a might xmute.  When I said I'd do it she said she tips 5g for one might, and a large prismatic shard for two.  Well ok, I mean this is something right?   But still ... the shards go for about 20g on my server, and primal mights about 85g.  And what if it had procced more than one extra?  Did I get to keep the 3rd, 4th or 5th?  I didn't ask since without the mastery I knew she wasn't getting any extra, forget more than one.  So now I see people in trade with "wtt primal might for the mats required to make one," meaning you the customer aren't getting a xmute, per se, you're getting a might for 5 primals and the alchemist is going to, at his her leisure, do the xmute for their own benefit.  This kinda solves the problem doesn't it?  If nobody knows whether there was a proc or not, then nobody quibble about it, right?  But these people are being shunned on my server (Thrall).  Nobody wants to do the straight up trade.  They want a transmutation master to do the deed with their primals thinking they'll get the extra and they're willing to wait until a master answers their call rather than do the simple mat trade.  a) I'm not dropping about 350g in mights to pick up xmute master for everyone else's benefit, and b) it sucks if it means that I'll have to forego any transmutation tips or that I'll have to skillfully negotiate my terms in advance before I endeavor to press the button.  :/  So what's the deal??  If any of you ladies is a transmute master, are you giving it away?  And if you're not, are you expecting the procs?  How does it work on your servers?  This sucks!

So I rolled, and Alchemy lost

You may remember me (again) QQing over tailoring. I'm currently holy specced as my guild starts on heroics and Karazhan, and was considering taking up Primal Mooncloth Tailoring. As it ownz. And things. There are other guildies leveling Primal Mooncloth tailoring, and....I was reconsidering what I wanted from WoW. Did I want to be the best geared healer, spend a ton of my time farming as holy for materials to make a healing set so I can.....pass on Kara drops?

Not that the loot matters, but if I'm healing, I'd like to roll on healing gear. Especially if I'm passing on dps cloth.

So, not likely to be getting cloth dps upgrades from Kara for a while - mages and the like clearly have priority, and I don't want to be greedy.

So...I'm taking up tailoring. However I'm going to make the Frozen Shadowweave set. This means I can boost my Shadow spec dps without rolling on drops which others will need first, AND I can help my guildies get their healing gear up to par quicker, by being available to swap my Primal Mooncloth. I /rolled to drop my Alchemy or herbalism, and ended up dropping the alchemy (I already had my alchemists stone, but no mastery quest.) It also means that in the unlikely event of me actually getting into Kara as a shadow priest, I'll not be too far behind gear wise.

I'd just like to thank everyone who gave me advice concerning tailoring. I'm off to grind ogres and pirates in tanaris tomorrow for the mageweave I need.

Alchemy Specializations

Sooo... which one should I pick? I hate asking questions like this, but in my opinion the benefits of the various specialisations aren't as obvious for alchemy as they are for other professions with their BoP epics.

At first I thought I'd go for potions, because I always like to carry some health and mana pots around with me and they sell reasonably well on the auction house, but then I realised that I don't use them that often, there are only very few potion recipes, and I also heard that the free extras don't proc often enough to make it worth it.

Elixirs didn't seem like my thing at first because at the moment I don't make them very often. I chug down an adept's elixir before I go quest or grind, but that's more or less it. However, I do intend to try raiding soon and from what I gathered potting up seems to be very important there. I also read that free elixirs proc a lot more often than free potions.

And transmutes? They are not something I do often, but it seems like they could be a good moneymaker in theory, but apparently the valuable transmute recipes are hard to obtain. The market on my server can also be a bit wacky, arcanite bars for example sell for considerably less than their raw materials. I'll have to check what the situation is like for primals.

Any fellow alchemists have any advice for me?

Screenshots and other questions.

Once upon a time there was a 'screenshot' function.

One mage abused it thusly over the months!

Screenshots from like, everywhere. )

What funny things have you capture on screenshot lately?

Hmm! I'm in a bit of a bind. I'm currently somewhere inbetween Honored and Revered w/ Sporeggar. I want that transmute recipe! I also can't get anyone into anything Coilfang for the life of me. I've looked at the wowwiki chart thing, but it confused me. Is there no other way to grind rep for me besides being in CFR? I've done all the quests, I'm not sure if there's a turn in I could be doing?

What do you tailors see as the etiquitte to trading cloth cooldowns? So far I've been doing it with guildies only, so we just swap materials and go to each altar with each other. I'm a little leery of doing it with a stranger, since I'm a frost mage almost EVERY primal water I come by is made partly of my QQ-ly tears and I don't want them to run off with it.

And, what are some of your favourite places to farm primal waters? Someplace accessible without a flyer. I did just hit 70 a few days ago, so I'm still quite poor. :) Lately I've been doing circles around the lake by all the big element dudes in Nagrand (and crying a lot), but if there's someplace you think is better I'd love suggestions!

Rude

[info]couldi_havebeen

I love my little undead rogue to death. I really do. She's so clumsy and funny, and can stabstab the crap out of just about anything. Yay for being on the top of the damage meters when The Mage isn't around in Kara. She's got pretty good gear considering I haven't been able to do Kara much lately (due to work) and don't pvp a whole lot. Oh, and did I mention I'm obsessive with getting her any alchemy recipe I can reasonably get my hands on? I'm up to three flasks (Mighty Restoration, Relentless Assault, and Supreme Power) and two cauldrons (arcane and shadow protection), and endless other potions and elixirs.

Which leads me to Question Number One. Currently, Rude is a potion master. I put off picking my mastery for a while, and ended up choosing it and doing the quest not too long before the patch. I chose potions, because I'd heard about all the nerfing to alchemy and wasn't sure an elixir mastery would even be useful once the patch came out. However, it turns out that, while my guild's main warlock can get 5 or 6 procs while making 10 potions, I get maybe 1 or 2. Somehow, the proc rate just doesn't work out so well for me. Also, there's the fact that the only "potions" I really make are healing potions for myself, and the random mana potions for guildies or friends. With all the recipes I have, I find myself making far more "elixirs" than "potions". So, I guess what I want to ask is, are any of you alchemists elixir masters? And, if so, does it prove to be useful despite the alchemy nerf?

THIS is a hat.

Hi everyone, another newbie here.

At the start of May I started playing WoW, having finally received my free trial disc from the Times in the post (my brother-in-law has been prompting me to check it out for ages, so I jumped on this opportunity like a mad jumpy thing). After mucking about with a few races and classes, I fell in love with the look of the Draenei and created my very own purple-skinned shaman, Maelis. The opening quests were fun and I liked the shaman abilities, so I've stuck with her and now she's on level 41.

This is all background information for the important thing: i has a hat.

I've had a couple of helms, and I've just got one as a quest reward that is even better, but none of them, quite simply, have the same dorky flair as this one. Observe...

(By the by, these screenshots are already out of date, as I earned a lovely pair of blood-red mail gloves tonight as well as a new cloak and something else I've already forgotten.)

i'm on ur hedz, fittin over ur hornz. )

There's also a question I'd like to ask. I'm an alchemist who's trying to get gold quickly, so I've been putting up batches of potions on the auction house. Problem is, none of them ever get any bids. Ever. I don't know what I'm doing wrong: I look up prices of the same item and quantity, and make a slightly lower buyout price. Eight hours later, nada. Perhaps I'm making the wrong sort of potions? A guildie advised me to put up swiftness and free action potions, what else would you recommend? Or is the non-bidding something to do with the starting prices? Please help, I'm getting pretty frustrated with selling to NPC vendors when real players would get more use out of this stuff.

Dumped Tailoring for Herbalism---Finally!

Getting Zaa to 70 was my main goal when BC came out, and never once messed with her professions, which were tailoring and alchemy. They were both 300, I was thrilled to have maxed out both. But I haven't done anything with them at all, and mostly noticed that
a. I am dependent on my other characters to get my herbs, and since none of them were above lvl 60, I had no access to the high lvl herbs to raise my alchemy.
b. Tailoring is an extremely expensive profession to lvl, and just doesn't make money for me at all.
c. I found myself only using my professions to help out my lower lvl alts.
I have decided to focus on Zaa primarily now, shooting for all heroic keys and ----ta da---her epic flying mount! Yes, I am a member of Altaholics Anonymous, and am guilty of having SEVERAL other characters, the highest of which is 62, the lowest a lvl 19 priest. I used Zaa mainly as my gold maker, to fund my lower lvls. Well, no more! Just yesterday I made 400 gold by determined questing (did all the group quests in BE Mountains yay they are DONE) and broke 1k gold and I thought--hey, I could make more gold if I had better professions! Soooooo I did it. I actually dropped tailoring and took up herbalism. Didn't have much time to play today, with all ( I have 8 children) my kids home from school now wanting to be on the computer too, but in 20 minutes playtime I got my herbalism up to 86! I can just see the gold pouring in ladies! *rubbing hands together gleefully while cackling and counting my money*

So now my big question is (well actually I have 2 big questions) the FIRST big question is: Which specialization should I take in my alchemy which will be the easiest/best way to make money? and my OTHER big question is: How do you guys make posts that have a link in it that expands your entry? I always feel like my entry is so long, but I don't know how to do that thing you all do.

Oh, and yay for Jordin Sparks!!!! Everybody in my house was glued to the tv last night, watching American Idol, and we so hoped Blake would not win, he just didn't have the talent that Jordin did, you should have heard the screams when her name was announced! Raised the roof I tell you!
See you all ingame!

Patch Notes: The heckling over Alchemy and more

Reading through the patch notes, and came across these gems, thought I'd draw attention to them. First for Alchemy, since in previous posts, the mention of Azeroth quest-reward buffs was mentioned:

* "Juju Chill" and "Juju Ember" are now considered Guardian Elixirs and do not stack with other resistance buffs.
* "Juju Flurry" is now considered a Battle Elixir and has been converted from haste to haste rating.
* "Ground Scorpok Assay","Juju Might","Juju Power", "Lung Juice Cocktail", and R.O.I.D.S are now considered Battle Elixirs.
* "Crystal Force", "Crystal Ward","Gizzard Gum", "Infallible Mind","Juju Escape", "Juju Guile", "Sheen of Zanza" and Swiftness of Zanza are all now considered Guardian Elixirs.
* "Sheen of Zanza" is now considered a Guardian Elixir. Stamina and Spirit bonuses have been reduced to 25.

And in other buffing news, I frown at Blizzard for this one (bold is my emphasis):

* "Fengus' Ferocity","Mol'dar's Moxie","Rallying Cry of the Dragonslayer", "Slip'kik's Savvy" and "Spirit of Zandalar" these buffs will no longer work on targets over level 63.

Just, rawr! *facedesks*

Just wanted to say thank you to all those who were so helpful with my alchemy/herbalism issues the other day. It took a couple of hours, but I've now leveled my 'lock to Journeyman in both. (I know, still sad, but a LOT better than it was!)

So, thanks! :-)

About how much on average does an arcanite transmute sell for? I'll be level 35 in a bit and able to learn the skill, but I don't know if it's worth the few gold to buy the plans. :P

what to do?!

my professions are herbalism and alchemy. i'm a 48 human mage and have had them both at 300 for quite a while too... but i cant do anything cool. its not fun, and while i'm not looking for something as fun as engineering i would like something that would generate some cash... though i guess i really dont need the money right now at all... and money isnt an issue and i've been thinking about picking up enchanting... but i wouldnt know what other profession to get. i like herbalism because it does generate money, but not a lot of cash... well not until i can get the other plants i guess... ugh i just dont know.

it pains me to do this... my last two professions were tailoring and i dont remember what else i used to do LOL... but i had them both halfway up when i switched to herbalism/alch, i thought it would be fun to make potions but more often than not i just end up buying them on ah as i'm far too impatient to collect the plants myself and all i can really do is arc trans which the alchemists get shafted on anyway (money-wise).

what are your thoughts? i'm sure a human mage just doesnt become certain things (like a leather worker LOL) but i would like something that would generate cash and dropped tailoring when i realized that runecloth bags are worthless because they're so damn expensive and most people would rather just buy a traveler's backpack for 10g less on my server than spend the 20g on a runecloth one that is made by tailors.

any suggestions?

i realize as soon as i have enough for my epic it wont matter how much money i make and i'm more than halfway to my epic now... most of which i would blow leveling up my enchanting (from what i've heard) but i would love to de things... anyway, opinions are welcome, thanks!
