Holy Priest PvP
Once again I find myself here looking for some advice...

I'm starting to get a little bored with my priest since I haven't had time lately to raid thanks to school, work and life in general so I've decided to give PvP a shot. I flew around last night night picking up the pieces for the beginner's PvP set and got everything enchanted/gemmed without spending too much (since I hear that I'll replace this set quickly). Then I went into EotS (it popped up first!) and pretty much followed around the biggest groups healing when I could, psychic screaming when I got attacked and trying to keep my bubble up. I died a lot, but I'm used to that, but I also managed to top the healing meter in one BG and came in second (behind a horde) in another. Now, it's totally possible that that has nothing to do with me and everything to do with other people's lack of healing... but who knows.

I guess I'm just looking for some general suggestions for someone that's a huge noob at PvP. Gear? Stats to look for? Spells and tricks to remember? Anything....

Oh, armory is here! Thanks in advance for any advice you can offer...

*Edited to add: I think I could've been a little clearer... I want to stay spec'd holy since I'll be raiding again soon. PvP is more of a side-venture than one I want to completely build my spec around. Thanks for all the tips so far though-- very, very useful!

Sounds like you have a good strategy. And yeah you will die a lot because of the squishy undergeared factor and becuase a smart player knows to go after a healer first. I recomend quick spells since you can't always predict if your target will stay alive long enough for a gheal, and to triage healing to players who know what they are doing vs idiots. (a really smart player will try and do everything they can to stay in your good graces, and possibly will protect you if an opposing player starts whacking at you.)

I find the key to being a holy priest in PVP is instant cast spells. Fast, fast, fast! :) Shield, PoM, dispel (this is a big one), fear, CoH if you have it, renew... priests actually have a ton of different instant cast stuff at their disposal that can help create pauses for Flash Heals. If you have Holy Nova, you can use it to interrupt people from capturing flags and nodes.

Stay back as much as possible, and use the terrain to your advantage. Hide behind structures, stand in bushes, do what you can to not be noticed. I like to pick someone to 'pocket healbot'. A holy priest and a mean enhancement shaman or warlock, for example, can be a pretty lethal team. (In arenas, if you start those, the key seems to be for your teammates to kill their healer before the other team kills you, so stay alive as long as possible! :) )

The best PVP gear is from arenas, but you can get good items with extra badges or honor as well. You want Stamina and Resilience.
