New VR strat?

Don't kill me for asking for help before I've done my research but my work blocks most game-related sites (but not LJ, silly IT admins!).

After  an almost too long break, we finally went back to visit Mr. Void Reaver who we had on farm pre-2.4. The DBM mod for the arcane balls of fury no longer works. Anyone have suggestions for dealing with that now?

Nope. I was wondering if they stealth-fixed him at all (adding SOME warning of who was targeted, even if only in the combat log) in the last patch, but I am not about to go trying again until I am sure. I swear I can't run away fast enough with the video glitches on that fight to avoid it if it is coming straight to me.

I suggest going to visit Solarian instead if you haven't done her, though. She's pretty darn easy, and I haven't *heard* of anything too wonky with her since the patch.

When I put in my GM ticket on 2.4 patch night, the eventual reply was the change (not showing him targeting orb'd person) was permanent and working as intended but the combat log would be changed to make some notation as to whom was about to be orb'd.

Yes, I have read that. But absolutely no warning of who is getting orbed (via the combat log or anything), combined with video glitches (invisible orbs, orbs exploding too soon, orbs not showing up soon enough to run away) makes him insanely difficult. We got close once, but otherwise, it was just not happening. Oh, all of the mods suddenly worked fine when we started running out to reset though!

Ditto, our guild tried on 2.4 patch night and did not succeed. I was clobbered by an invisible orb at least once. And I wanted to smack the person who kept saying "oh, I can see the orbs just fine-- just opint your camera up..."

Do you know if Solarian Alarm still working like it should? :o

We haven't had the chance to try her yet, but since it works off of a debuff and as far as I know nothing about that encounter was changed, I would expect it to. *knocking wood*

It was still working last Thursday when we tried her.

Solarian is pretty much the same as before the patch. :)

Pretty sure no one mentioned the Alarm not working and one of the guys that runs it was super-on-ball with running out during the 15 times he got the debuff. (2nd kill for us, lots of new people -_-)

i'm not sure if this is still the case, but when 2.4 went live, blizz acknowledged that the void reaver fight was totally screwed up. they intended to change some of the mechanics of the fight to make it more tricky (for example, he no longer turns and targets players before he farts an arcane ball at them). players were saying he was farting out invisible arcane balls and that DBM was not working at all. so apparently these changes totally borked the encounter and blizz said the fight would be fixed in a "future patch."

Apparently, according to the DBM site, you can have a suicide caller.

Someone with admin privs dies right off the bat, tank picks it up, and the dead person's announces work.

I never did VR at ranged before 2.4 so I never had to worry about the arcane orbs. However, when 2.4 hit, I had to spec Holy on my paladin to help heal and... it was quite an interesting experience. Lost a lot of ranged due to the lack of mods helping out but a lot of us adjusted after the first two wipes by actually angling our camera up and actively looking for the orbs (the way it should be done, perhaps?). It just took a fair bit more running and the DPS was slightly slower than usual but we got it done.

A few people complained that the radius of the explosion seemed slightly bigger or that the orb would explode before it got to the ground. However, a lot of us didn't see an issue with it because we would start running as soon as an orb spawned from VR.

He'll no longer change targets, and that's not a bug. So old VR mods won't ever work again.

There's also some fix in the works to put the orbs going at someone in the combat log, but AFAIK, it's not in yet.

Yeah at least a couple people I've talked to on my server are saying there are invisible orbs....pretty much he's bugged and I don't want to look at him until they at least fix that bit. I'm fine with him not turning and targeting but invisible orbs? That's asking a bit much I think.

I dunno about invisible orbs, but my guild had previously had him on farm and then wiped repeatedly the day of the patch and ended up calling it.

We did get him down after 2 or 3 tries this week, though. It took a LOT of work and paying attention. I think one of the keys might be making sure you have enough health to last through one arcane orb, and then getting the hell out of there and healing yourself up after you're hit - that's what I had to do. But then I'm a shadow priest, so I have more abilities at my disposal than other classes. I used a combination of bandages, self-healing, warlock health cookies and health pots to keep myself healed up, and on the last try I lasted the entire way through the fight. Combined with Omen/KTM not working quite right, it was an interesting fight... our RL/top warlock had to suicide towards the end of the fight because he was so close to drawing aggro and had already blown his soul shatter that he had no choice but to die intentionally to avoid pulling aggro and wiping us.

the best way my guild has gotten threw the fight for range is to zoom your camera into first person and point it up to vr head so you can see if the orb is coming near you and just run quick when it heads to you cause they still blow up sometimes before the orb actally hits the ground. hope that helps =)

We did down him after a few wipes but he's definitely big fail now. I got a few surprise!arcane balls but managed to survive. We did notice that the fight became a bit easier with a few players dead; more room to spread out. One of our dead healers said he of course sacrificed himself for the greater good. ;p

I noticed that it helps if I zoom in close and keep the view up so I can see him entirely. Easier to see when a ball is about to come my way.

Right now, if someone is dead with DBM they can call the orbs.

Fight is not glitched or bugged, just changed, and will apparently be changed again.

Ugh. That makes me more happy than ever that we're focusing on SSC for now. Invisible orbs make me a sad kitty indeed, because while I dodge my own just fine, I end up getting pwnt by other people's and if they're invisible that's just going to be full of fail. >(

Speaking of invisible AoE, I died in ZA the other night because I stepped in an invisible consecrate from Malacrass. Grrrr.

Not being targeted is one thing, but surprise-orbs = do not want. >.>

Ok. Something we've learnt since 2.4.1 at least (first time trying him since 2.4) One of the changes to the void reaver fight is that VR will now target the melee at his feet for the arcane orbs. Previously he'd only toss them at the range only. Hes now in a habit of firing three orbs similtaneously, either at the same target or at different ones. Which makes it interesting when you're trying to run and bandage after being clipped by the first and having two more coming right for you.
