So here's a problem I never thought I'd have ever.

As many of you ladies (and gentlemen; I know there are a few of you!) know, my main's a belf pally, currently sitting at level 55. This in of itself is a big accomplishment for me because, well, she's my first and only character that I've ever leveled that high. My main goal is to get her to Outland and I'm excited to get her out there. No, excited doesn't even begin to cover it. The second I'm able to, I'm using the damn portal to get my ass out there because that's how excited I am to see it.

However, I'm three levels away from being able to use the portal and, well... lately, it's kind of felt like a chore to be playing her and it bothers me. I haven't logged onto her in so long and, well, it's hardly fitting behavior for a guild officer, damn it. XD I want my pally to be fun for me again and I'm not entirely sure how to do that. I'd really rather not respec as I love being prot and I love tanking with all my heart. I still haven't quite gotten the hang of it yet, mind, as my dungeon runs are few between, but I enjoy it if I have a good healer at my back.

I'm thinking a change of location could be good, since that helped me the last time, but my choices are limited, as far as I'm aware. Currently, I'm leveling out in Winterspring, but I'm not really enjoying it there. It's a step up from deserts and bug killing, sure, but I really don't like it and it bothers me. I'm beginning to wonder if I really shouldn't be out there and if I should be down in Silithus instead, hacking away at bugs and worms and scorpions and... whatever else is down there, but deserts depress me. That's one of the reasons why it hurt to level down in Tanaris.

Just... argh. What do you guys think? Have any of you been in similar situations?

Edit: The general consensus seems to be that I haul my butt back down the Plaguelands and smash undead, so that's what I'm going to do next time I'm on. XD Thanks, guys!

did you try eastern plaguelands? with all the undead, it's a pally's playground! (unless you finished it already)

I've been in and out of there, but I'm thinking I might be blind or something because quests seem to be few between or hard to locate, so I'm not even sure if I'm looking in the right places for them...?

Try WPL first, there are more quests there. The EPL quests are mostly over by the chapel all the way to the east, and they may not all be open for you at 55. I'm not sure...I hated EPL. It was just that extra bit of desolate and ugly that made it totally unbearable, but WPL was fun.

Now that I think about it, I also got a lot of XP in the 55-60 range grinding, because I was farming runecloth for tailoring (corin's crossing is a great spot). Then at least I was excited about leveling my profession, even if it felt like I was getting nowhere leveling my toon.

Oh that's where they all are in EPL! I was wondering! I'm still working through WPL quests, though, so I don't think I'll hit up EPL for awhile yet.

Though, that's a good idea, farming for runecloth out there. Someone in my guild could certainly use it even if I can't. XD

Also, when you are on the road from WPL to EPL, as soon as you get into EPL, follow the stream north, and pick up the selection of fauna quests from the pally dad.

Check out the Bulwark, between Tirisfal and WPL; that's where most of the quests start. There are plenty. :)

Well, to me, it seems like they're few between over there. XD Just takes forever to unlock them, it seems like...

Also, as you wander around in WPL, several of the farms have quests that start from items/NPCs in the houses.

Silithus and WPL's cauldron quests are some great ways to level fairly quickly. I had a great time in Silithus from 57-58, it's nearly abandoned on many servers so you don't have to fight for mobs. I prefer the atmosphere there to the atmosphere in Winterspring, myself.

I've have felt that way...and I guess what kept me grinding was playing with friends. If I had to grind alone, I'd log out and do something else. Do you have online friends and guildies to team up with?

Yupyup! Granted, a lot of us never seem to be in the same area at the same time, but we talk with each other while we level grind (and rant in chat if mobs aren't dropping what we need them to for quests). And if they're looking for people to run dungeons with, I usually volunteer unless I'm in the middle of something or I would have to leave before the end of the run (nothing annoys me more than people who join a run only to leave before the run's over and done with and I try hard not to be THAT GUY, you know?).

Solo level grinding doesn't really bother me, though, since I went through about twenty levels of it before finding my guild of awesome. I'm so used to it that it doesn't really phase me that much. ;;

Possibly check out a leveling guide to get you through this hump. I found that a guide tends to jump zones quite a bit and moves you through quickly so even if you're in a zone you dislike, you burn through it pretty quick. If you're comfortable with your play, you can probably pick up the guide anywhere between level 52 and 56 and see where it is and what zones are to your liking. I used Jame's Guide and found it great. At level 58 or so, I was in Felwood, which may have been a bit lower than my level called for, but when leveling a warrior, it's best to do stuff that's a bit lower to minimize downtime and frustrations.

I did a lot of fun quests in the Burning Steppes at that level. I'm not sure what it's like for Horde, but my alliance paladin had some fun slaying dragons and working with the random crazy guy in Morgan's Vigil. I hope there's something like that for Horde!

I seem to get the same way when I get really close to my goals -drives my friends batty =) I second (fifth?) the WPL/WPL quests; my little warlock went from 52-60 in those two zones. I didn't care for winterspring either - too much....snow. and yetis.

I cannot STAND to level characters up alone, which is why my poor lock is stuck at 41 and my mage at 28 (both alts, my main just dinged 67 yesterday). I am lucky enough to have a hubby who plays the game just as religeously as I do, so when I make a new toon, he makes a match (and vice-versa). These toons will then go about their way in the world together at least until lvl 20. That is when we decide if the two are really a match and they either break up, or stick together (hence the sad story of the lock and the mage being partner-less).

It sounds to me like you should find a priest or mage, or even druid out in the world around the same level as you to pal up with. These classes are difficult to solo for some people, so help leveling would probably be muchly appreciated.

You know, that's a really good suggestion. I hated soloing on my squishy mage, and pallies really complement mages well and vice versa. My friends list is full of pallies!

That lvl 50+ quests and grinds are a pain in the butt to get. The best places to lvl and quest are the following.

The plaguelands (Eastern and Western)
Silithus
Winterspring
Stratholme (instance) there's a lot of quest for Strat.
Scholomance (instance) not very much quest but a big instance you may gained a lvl there depending on your rested.
Dire Maul East, West, North (not a lot of quest I've done her but there are quests. This is also a big instance.)

The problem is flying back and forth through areas to lvl and the 50+ areas are so spread apart as opposed to the 20-40 areas.

My husband and I have been in similar situations where we just stop playing our characters and just play our highest lvl cause we just can't take traveling. But eventually we did got our characters to lvl. He's got two 70's now, I have three. Of course now there's such things as Quest Helper, and Lightheaded for our alternative characters.

And once you get it to Outland it's gets easier until 63. Then it starts the grind fest over again but the good part about Outland is that there are plenty of quests to do in each area AND if you do them all and run instance at least ONCE you can get to 70 and still have about two or three areas unexplored.

Suggested first place you start is in Hellfire, then work in Zangamarsh once you are done with the area. At least in my days of leveling it's Zangamarsh then Terrokar, but some people do the other way around. And then hit up Nagrand, and if you're lucky, you'll be 69 or 70. If 69 it's then to the beginning of Blades Edge Mountains. =)

But in a pally's case it might take a while depending on your build. My husband had a tough time leveling after he was finished with Hellfire but he got there. Don't be stressed out over it though. You'll get there and even if you take breaks it's all the well worth it cause those rested bonus just helps your journey even more. =)

I have found that after a couple levels in HFP, taking a level or two break in Zanger is nice, before going bak to the more annoying HFP quests.

HFP has crazy layouts. Makes you neck bend to it. What annoys me the most about HFP is that I can be doing 50fps, but it STILL looks like it's lagging.

Jame's leveling guides on WoW-Pro are great!!! I highly recommend them, though usually not for first characters. I usually encourage new players to explore on their own with their first characters, but it sounds like you are really frustrated.

Definitely... even with the improvements to leveling, lots of the zones are still too big and quests often go nowhere with bad rewards. Try the Plaguelands, since you're a paladin you can aoe grind your heart out in certain places.

i have three characters at 70. None pally. I avoided the plaguelands like...well...the plague because I hate fighting undead, and I hate Silithus as well...Winterspring was a welcome area for me. Just seemed so peaceful in comparison.

However, my husband has two 70 pallies (one prot one holy) and simply adores Western and Eastern Plaguelands. Apparently Pallies have an easier time against undead and he absolutely loved it there. You might give that a shot.

You are a paladin. Head to Western Plaguelands and kill all the Undead. You will have more fun than you ever had in the game, period.
