Alts and the lack thereof
So I sometimes feel like the only one in the world and I was hoping for a little sympathy, or empathy, or something.

I have no alts. Well I do. I have a 49 huntard (she's and idiot and a farming toon), and the rest are in the 30 or lower bracket. But nothing that's a 70 keyed for Kara and my new love. Now I'm about the only one the the guild who feels this way. Everyone else it seems has a boatload of alts that they are happy to abandon their main toons. Soon as they have most or all of the gear they want from Kara they quit running and bring in an alt.

This has stalled us. We don't go past Kara. We don't try ZA cause we lost some well geared tanks (to drama, naturally...) and the one well geared tank we've got left is burned out from really painfully slow runs and stupid dpsers (and healers, he gets really cranky if I'm not the healer on him cause we've got a couple slacker healers and he knows it as does his repair bill). So weekly we have about 1/2 to 1/3 mains and the rest are alts.

I hate it. I want our well geared spriest. I want the "I don't need anything until TK (even though he actually does)" pally healer. I want the mage who knows how to manage aggro and still fight with the uber hunter for the top of the dps meters. I want our lock. I want our good toons so we can clear it in one night instead of the 2 (8 hours is just too much time to spend in Kara on farm imho). I want to see something new.

Yeah I'm enabling by going. I'm enabling by helping people run stuff instead of just running off and pugging Mags or Gruul. (I've been invited to both in the last week, and said no both times because I was helping guildies or getting ready for second Kara night.)

Am I the only person who loves thier main? Who loves playing and doesn't feel great relief when thier main isn't needed? Who isn't desperate to run off and play an alt?

Apparently.

GRR! I want to get in and see inside of Gruul. I want to check out more of ZA (we've only killed the first 2 bosses and only tried once). I'm frustrated that I'm one of the few people who works hard to gem up my gear and enchant it and farm my own stuff. (or the cash to buy it which, um...ouch!)

I work hard to help people out. And I understand burning out. But maybe we wouldn't burn out if people were willing to help on mains once in a while. I hate kara taking 8 hours. I get why everyone wants to try it in a different role. But if we keep doing alt runs where mains can't go so we can get a main run later in the week and then no one shows up for the main run....I've just about had it. GR!

I love my priest! I want to play her dammit! I want to have fun with her! Don't make me repec so I can solo because that's my only option outside pugging.

Ugh! I realize I sound really selfish here. But I didn't join an alt guild. I wouldn't have if I'd known. I don't want to quit and have everyone be mad at me. I actually like the people I just don't know that they want the same things I do. I want to check out all the content. I want to see inside the shiny new places. I want to see. They want to level alts.

If it's the officers who want to gear up their alts instead of pushing into new content, I'd say you just need to find a new guild. If you really want to see new content, either push your guild back into progression or you're going to be miserable.

Yeah...I've been feeling that way. I promised I'd wait until after the holidays and see if we can get a gruul run (end of January so everyone has the chance to get all thier ducks in a row) some of the officers want to keep going and have no problem with alts as long as there are mains getting to do what they want. Some...well some I'm not sure why they are officers at all. But there are about 5 people who are really a problem for me. Guess I'm going to keep my eyes open for other guilds looking for a holy priest.

my old guild had the same problem. i think because we initially didn't have enough people to do 25 man stuff a lot of people got burned out from doing kara and wanted to play their newly 70 alts instead. which was fine, except when we did get enough people for 25 man stuff, half the people would rather play their alts instead. and when some of the officers brought up the classes we were short of, the answer was 'my pally/druid/whatever will be in kara soon'. it's like, yes, but then we're still short something because you won't have your other character there.

i've since left due to other reasons, and all 25 man progression seems to be stopped, the guild is doing three nights of kara and the odd za run a week, with most of the people there taking their alts *shrug* so yeah... i'd just leave and find a guild that wants to progress. some people are happy to stick in kara, and that's cool i guess, but if you're not don't feel bad about not staying :)

Yeah. I do feel bad but the guild wasn't sold as a guild who was happy with Kara and just aiming to have fun with alts...that's fine but don't tell new recruits you are aiming for gruul and ssc and the like.

This seems to be a problem across the board, I have pugged more instances than I know what to do with and I'd love to have a regular raiding group to go and learn the raids with. It's like, I dunno, being in a relationship - the longer you are together the better you are at working as a team as you get to know eachother's strengths and weaknesses. So many of my guild are all out with their alts that we rarely have the same chars online often enough to get anything done. And I think it can only get worse with WOTLK.. :-/

:( just :( I don't want things to get worse. I want to keep raiding with the 5 or so people who I love and know I can count on 100% of the time. And the other 8-10 who are nice and I can count on like ....75% of the time. that's pretty good.

I have a ridiculous excess of alts.  All of them keep getting ignored in favor of my main (a shammy whom I hope to get to level 50 by the end of the week).

But my main is kind of broke right now, thanks to class training and a not-so-lucrative set of professions.  So...I may be farming a bit on (at least) my hunter and pally alts.  (It's that, or spend a lot of time in the Barrens catching Deviate Fish.)

Good luck on 50. I get farming. I know that it's important but we have people who aren't leveling farming toons. They are just....ignoring calls for help :(

I only have 2 toons now. I got irritated with the fact that having a whole bunch of alts was making me extra-slow at levellinh, so I deleted all but two.

I like having one toon to focus on. So don't worry, you're not the only person who likes to concentrate on their main.

Yay for not being the only one. I try to log onto an alt and play so I too can have something else to do. But Meph is already at 70 and already everything I want. Plus she's fun to play! <3 my priest.

My main used to be a warrior, over a year ago. Then, I rolled a hunter alt. Now, the hunter is my main at 70, while my 70 warrior plays banker in IF.

I posted the same issue the other night on this forum. It's so frustrating when people start getting greedy and just because their well-geared toon doesn't need anything from Kara, then they must bring in a new character so they can still get fat purple lootz. We got stalled because we needed some more healers, so we had to gear them up, so we focused on Kara again, which was fine, we needed healers who could handle ZA and beyond. But then, everyone else jumped on the bandwagon, bringing in pointless alts. Suddenly, Kara's HARD again, when it was on farm for the past month. I love my little Warrior Banker, but I'm not interested in raiding with her, so every week, long after I have needed anything from Kara, my hunter dutifully shells out repair bills to run people's pointless alts through a dungeon we mastered weeks ago. And, with so many experienced players we shouldn't be wiping, I know, but with the alts . . . we do. Not as a group, but oops, idiot DPS pulled aggro, now you're in range of the big, nasty boss, he beats your ass quick and hard, and while the rest of the raid can finish him off and rez you, you still get to repair because the alt is a moron. So glad I get to sacrifice for characters we don't need. =(

But, I"m bringing it up tonight. I love my guild, overall, but if they can't progress at the pace I'm looking for, it's time to find a new guild. Just because I'm good at my role doesn't mean I'm responsible for carrying everyone else and their army of alts through Kara. I just need to make that clear to the group and give them a fair chance to decide.

My main is a priest, and she's my absolute baby. She's in 4/5 T5, goes to raids every night it's up and I can farm easy sauce on her.

I have an alt that's Kara keyed. I love her just as much. She's a pally that either smacks things in the mouth or tanks. It wasn't until we were well into SSC and TK that we finally started bringing alts into Kara, the only stipulation is that just like our fun welcoming message to the guild, is that they Don't. Suck. If you're a DPSer, you'd better bring the pain, be hit capped and such. Healers had better heal their asses off, and it's because of some rare as hell drops for us (Stonebaugh Jerkin and the Nightstaff of the Everliving for our Tree, along with several other crappy drop rate healing items) that we still bring mains in as healers, and tanks? Yeah, my pally's over 490 defense, has over 13k HP, and her armor's about the same when she's prot spec.

But it sounds to me like you need to go guild shopping if your current guild isn't progressing because of alts that suddenly became mains.
