Female tanks
Hi Ladies!
Evercau of Hyjal server, horde here.
I am a feral druid and I love to tank!
I have noticed something, however-
I don't meet many other females who tank!
There are some female character played by males who tank, but rarely do I meet other actual ladies who tank. I wonder why not?

I am female and I love to tank.

Tonight I'm respeccing prot. I've been trying to try it out for weeks, but everyone likes my MS spec. Last night I said 'Dammit, i want to tank this second half of kara! I'm respeccing!'

:D

I rolled a warrior with the intention to tank, and I love it. :) I currently MT Kara and couldn't be happier with another role. :)

I've had a warrior for a while (leveled her for Daughters of the Alliance along with my twin sister who also is a warrior). I didn't much like tanking 5-mans as Fury though (I liked tanking ZG and whatnot though!). However, just the other day I respecced Protection... and it is so much fun! Once you actually have more than 3-4 abilities to use it gets so exciting :) I have a choice, instead of my usual sunder/shield block/revenge/thunder clap rotations. I had a blast in Sethekk Halls and I can't wait to get more practice in the real level 70 instances.

I think it's just that all of us wow ladies tend to be spread out through the servers...and we really are a minority in the game. *shrugs*

Still! We exist!

That's so funny 'cause I was thinking how many feral druids I know who are girls and tank all the time in Kara. ^^ There are at least three in my guild, and one of our other tanks is a female orc played by a woman. I love our guild, so many women to keep the guys in line.

I often get assigned to OT things in Heroics and even in the Moroes fight the one time I was able to go to Kara. I enjoy it more than when I'm not OTing, and usually get complimented on how well I do.

Only thing is, I'm a Rogue, so I can't MT. :(

I've been considering rolling a Tauren Feral Druid to tank and have fun with, but I don't know anyone on the Horde side of my server, or anyone on another server to reroll with...

Feral tank in the making. :) (Gotta have an excuse to stay in forms, because I find the female nelf form just so ... valley girl.)

If you go with the stereotype that girls only play WoW when their boyfriends get them into it, the fact that most guilds are short on healers, so they encourage their girlfriends to play healers to fill the void might be a plausible explanation.

Bah, says I. I like tearing things up with my CLAWS OF DOOOOM!!!! :D

i'm female.

i bear tanked with my original main, NE feral druid (i left her for a BE when BC came out). i wasn't in raids or anything, but when we (my bf, a priest, at the time) and i would look for groups, we'd set it up so i was a tank. i enjoyed it actually. i was right up front in the fray.

my main now is a 'lock and i sometimes feel so out of the loop standing far back and casting DoTs. :)

I have Saluki a female human prot warrior on Suramar. I leveled a pally and hunter to 60 pre-BC but then I tried a warrior alt and she quickly became my new main. I leveled 10-70 protection specced. I love tanking. Which makes my close WoW friends happy because we can 5 man any instance now. I quest alot with my partner who has a holy pally and while it may take a while to kill things, we can kill almost anything with just the 2 of us. I just hit 70 so now I'm working on the quests to improve my gear and I need to start the key quests for Kara.

Also one of our guilds main tanks is an awesome pally tank played by a woman.

Used to be MT for my Kara guild, respecced MS/flurry for a while with this other guild, and tonight I'm transferring to a new server to start tanking again in 25-mans, though I think I'm gonna stay DPS spec til I finish farming primals for my SSC gear. :) Tanking is fun!

I'm a feral druid (currently) and I love to tank and I'm female. We had another female feral druid in my guild for a while, but she went resto to play with it. I also have a tanking paladin and a warrior I'm leveling with hopes to tank later on. :) Most of our tanks are male though, but then again so are the majority of the people I play with.

I know what you mean... I don't know much female warriors on our server and all of them are off-specced. Our Guild has 2 ladies, and both of us like tanking... one is a feral druid and quite good at it and my second lvl 70 char is a prot-warrior but I'm still practising and sadly not that good.
I leveled as a prot with a fire-mage, but it's a big difference to have only one aggrojunkie or 4 and 4 mobs you have to bind on you ;)
But how wrote a guy in his application: "My goal is it to have super equip and become a famous and wanted deftank soon"

My main is a warrior and I'm actually my guild's only prot warrior. Heck I'm the only war who even raids O.o. I love it more than any other raid role because it's really involved and much more fun than anything else I've done. I mean, I like other roles too, but nothing beats tanking for me.

It does seem that there's a distinct lack of female tanks though. While you've gotten lots of response here, I'd say the overall trend is that girls seem to play healers and hunters. I'm not making any definite assertions here, just noting from observation.

Yeah, I'm one of those warriors who isn't specced for tanking. I'd love to be a better tank (I'm ashamed of my non-tanking abilities), and I'm perfectly willing to try, even though I fail a lot (like when I pugged Uldaman a few days ago and the healer left after a few wipes because no one was really pulling aggro properly - I felt quite ashamed, though when the other warrior in the group is low-level and aggroing everything and the *hunter* is trying to tank (not his pet), I'm really just trying to do damage control - bad all around). I also need a good one-handed weapon so I can carry a shield in instances. That'd probably help.

So yeah, long ramble short - I'm all about tanking, if I have the proper support from my group, since it's hard out there for an arms warrior, hehe. I'm currently lvling a druid, and I hope she'll be at least a good off-tank, when the time comes.

I like both taking and dealing out damage, which is why I'm speccing arms atm - I imagine I'll change to protection once I get my warrior high enough, level wise. Then I'll be a better tank :) Or fool around with my druid more.

Tanks are very gear-dependent, and I just don't care all that much for that part of the game. Of course, I roll or spend dkp on upgrade, research craftables, etc, but I don't feel like focusing on gear quite as much as good tanking requires. Recently I've been thinking about leveling a tanking paladin, but the whole gear thing... meh.
