Some people's kids...
Since everyone else has guild drama stories, here's a minor one of my own.

Happily, it was only the bratling that left.

Usually our GM is good about screening and booting people who are obnoxious or leechy.

There was one kid, who I will just call Kid, that he wanted to try to help out.
Said Kid was, by his own admission, 10 years old.
So, really a kid.

We were patient with Kid when he'd constantly ask for runs, help, "Where is X, Y and Z?", and all kinds of other stuff that he could have figured out on his own if he'd stopped to look around a little, because, yanno, he was a kid. We'd just grit our teeth and be nice to him and occasionally drop what we were doing to help him so he'd shut up.

Then, about two weeks ago, he stumbled on one of those elite dragons in Twilight Grove and got it stuck in his head that he wanted to kill it.
At level 23.
So, for days and days on end all we heard from him was, "can 1 of u hi lvls help me kill the dragon in duskwood???????"
We kept telling him no, that it was a 10-20 man raid boss (and either level 70 or 72, I forget which), and that it just wasn't a possibility for a 'whim' kill.
We suggested that he get the GEM add on and schedule an event for it if he really wanted to do it.
He said he would and shut up for a couple of days.

...then started over again.

Repeat this a few more times.

I talked to the GM and he said he knew that the kid was annoying and that he was trying to work with him to explain the concept of "STFU AND HAVE SOME MANNERS!".

However, I got sick of it pretty soon and told the kid, once again, all of the above about the dragon and that unless he scheduled a raid for it there was no way it was EVER GOING TO HAPPEN so please stop bothering people constantly to go and do it and get it scheduled.
He said he "didn't feel" like installing GEM and that we should help him just because.
I told him that wasn't how life works and reiterated once again that this was a HIGH LEVEL RAID BOSS that would need 10-20 level 60+ members so he would HAVE to schedule it if he wanted any hope of it ever getting done.

He was quiet for a few mintues, then said,

Nobody /cry -ed when he /gquit the next day.

He is actually; I was curious as I missed the /gquit (found out about it later) and thought maybe he was just taking a break.

Nope.

He's terrorizing another guild now.

We absolutely do not let anyone in under 18 into our guild. We don't like kids, we don't want to deal with kids, and we aren't kid friendly. I can't imagine dealing with that. Even some 16 year olds are horrible.

Some adults are worse.

But yeah, we only have a couple of under 18s, and they are relatives of people in the guild. Given how guild chat tends to get, there's a reason why we like having a relative to consent that it's no big deal that they hear about some of the topics we discuss...

I remember being one of those "but I'm a special teen, I'm not stupid like the rest of them!" teens. Now I'm sitting on the other side realizing that the adult only groups were on to something, but my god the way some teens wank about the existence of adult only groups!

This is why I'm in an adults only guild. I can't stand other people's children.

That sucks. My guild has had some younger members and while they are a bit annoying at times some of them are pretty good players.

I want to note, as the parent of an almost 10 year old, that my son isn't allowed to play WoW unless he's online at the same time as my husband or me. He certainly wouldn't be allowed to terrorize a poor guild. That's beyond annoying.

What she said. My son is 10 and though he's in our guild, he's only online when one of us is, and he KNOWS not to post b.s. in guild chat. If he wants to go somewhere, he either uses the LFG tool or schedules a run in GEM.

Our guild's current problem is that one of our officers bailed to join a hardcore raiding guild, but left his bratty daughters behind. I cannot be on at the same time as them without getting umpteen tells to run them through SM. They're early teens, I think. GL doesn't want to kick them in case we "need" the officer back, but I can outheal him any day of the week. :P

Wow, that's just... gah... no words for it...

Lazy? Just not accepting that it's too hard for him at that particular level? Sheesh. I'd never let a 10 year old play an MMO.

And love the spelling.

Kid needs to spend more time on his English homework and less time playing WoW.

Also, I hate children.

The world dragons have been in game since pre-BC, with 20-40 folks needed depending upon gear and experience. (In case your guild ever wants to go after one.)
:)

I feel like some parents use WoW as an unpaid babysitter.

My guild had an 8 year old from Australia.

First of all I would like to ask wtf his parents are letting their 8 year old play WoW for. When I was 8, I did things like play outside and look at bugs...guess it's the changing nature of childhood.

This is mostly this kid just wanted attention from the older players. Kind of like any young kid. Thankfully we have a mother of two in the guild and she managed to convince him to join the guild her 12 year old son is in. She and few other parents watch it very closely to make sure these kids don't get themselves in to creepy situations.

But while our little Aussie was in my guild he would just constantly aske questions like "Have you ever seen a dragon? Did you kill it? What color was it? Can you take me to go see it? What's Outlands like? Is it cool? What leve do I have to be to go there? Can you help me get there?" over the vent channel, even interrupting instance runs to do so. Hard to delegate sheep and sap targets when you've got a little Aussie asking for a Gnomer run....

Best of luck to him but really shouldn't he be outside playing?

Im my guild we have a bunch of kids, some of them are OK, others are a little bit annoying. We had an 11yr old, who was an awesome tank, but was /gkick for something he did that annoyed one of the officers. Anyway my guild is very casual and family friendly.

PS:
I agree with most of you, 8 is to freaking young to be inside glued to a PC.

That's just sad and frustrating. We have a 10/11-year-old in my guild, when he can get away from homework and other kidly activities, and I still don't know how much I believe he's that young, because he's very mature. Wouldn't know it if he hadn't said style of thing. Gosh, I miss him being around! :)

for a random other side of things story. I was hanging out in outlands or running a dungeon a few months back before my WoW stopped working and one guy kept asking what the Scarlet Monastery was and was it a town or something. Guy is a level 25 priest who apparently got himself stranded there so I ended up just telling to stay put and not aggro anything. Other guildie and I figured he was a teen or so and I was so tempted to bait him a little. And then I found out he was 29.....

Dec 10th, 2004: Level 10 Druid in Moonglade. None of the zone displays other than the lake.

Me: Where am I, and how do I get home?
Friend: Where's what? Let's Group.
Me: Where's Lake Elune'ara?
Friend: Wha?
(group)
Friend: ...How did you end up there?

None of my other friends had played a Druid yet. They just knew Moonglade was on the far side of Feralas from Beta... And they were at the time, level thirty-something.

But yeah, I know what you mean, since I PUG almost exclusively, so I run into these guys in zones all the time.

2 things
first of all anyone under 14 maybe 13 should not be playing the game
but that just a personal opinion as someone said they should be playing outside in the real world with real people.

and second of all no matter what a person's age is in real life they shouldnt be negelcted for asking a question where something is and whatnot yeah some of them to take it a bit to far but think back to when ya'll started playing and knew nothing about the game not everyone is as smart or a quick thinker like everyone else people are all diff and dont think the same

hell im 21 and lvl 50 nearly and i still know sfa and asking my guild about what's what and wheres this but lucky for me they are understanding people

Basicly in the seond part of what i said i basicly mean to try to be patient with people if they dont know something
