I'm so cruel....
My mate and I were getting a group together for Botanica yesterday (a few, actually, but that's beside the point). We ended up with two Rogues and had a spot left for a healer, with me being the tank. One of the Rogues sent me a tell and quite an interesting conversation ensued...

Him: I got us a mage for CC. Invite Frostmage.
Me: A pair of saps aren't enough CC?*
Him: Can't sap in combat, duh.
Me: And your point is?
Him: You can't tell me shit's not going to happen, because it will. A mage can polymorph adds.
Me: Or we could just not pull adds, or I could just tank the adds.
Me: You know, I could kick one of the rogues and invite the mage...but chances are, it won't be Otherrogue.
Him: Whatever, have fun wiping. *quits group*
Me: *Invites mage he named*
Him (not knowing what I did): That is...if you can get a group.
Me: Had quite a few, actually.
Him: What? Wipes
Me: Groups, and not all of them had CC. Just came from one with no CC whatsoever. Was the smoothest run I've had.
Him: Calling you an idiot would be an insult to stupid people.
Me: Have a nice day!
*You are being ignored*

I then found a healer that I had grouped with before and only wiped on a couple bad trash pulls, particularly the ones with the gene-splicers. After that run, I found another one that started with me DPSing (we found a Prot Warrior) and ended with me tanking because the Warrior had to leave.

The moral of this story: don't tell this Druid tank that there's not enough CC. Also, don't mess in the affairs of dragons, because you will get eaten, as we are not patient creatures when you cross us.

*I've been through the instance with and with out CC and although CC is useful, it's not mandatory. In fact, I had just been in a group with two Shamans and three Druids (did the same with Sethekk Halls, too).

Pfft, CC. It's nice to have, but can be totally scrapped if you have a decent group. :)

=D I've gone through Botanica so many times I could probably run through there with my eyes closed. I've gone through Bot as the only CC in the group. I'm a shadow priest. Let's think about this, hmm? =D In other words, go you.

oi yeah, I hate when people tell you that you have to have a certain type of group or else. I've been in some good groups that had a freakin mage tank *the actually tank couldn't keep threat, but it was fun and funny* while the groups *you have to have* didn't work out at all or just wasn't any fun.

Exactly.

I still love the ZF run I did with all Hunters, that was awesome. My friend did a run with all clothies and his voidwalker tanked.

This Botanica run wasn't a heroic, so it wasn't absolutely necessary to have a huge amount of CC.

Hey I did Shadow Labs with two hunters, a lock a priest and me (rogue) :P no tank! Smooth as butter. Perfect group combo's are overated.

I want my 20 seconds of reading time back! Hehe, joking: it's actually fascinating to watch how simplest discussions escalate into fights. Both parties, of course, are responsible for the escalation. It takes two to tango.

Expressions like "Duh" or, "And your point is?" or, "You can't tell me..." are almost guaranteed to produce a fight. Here is how people COULD steer this conversation into a constructive and friendly one... if they wanted... but hey, drama ftw! It's more entertaining! /popcorn

What YOU could do:

Him: I got us a mage for CC. Invite Frostmage.
Me: I think two saps should be enough for CC.
Him: Can't sap in combat, duh.
Me: This is correct. However, as a bear druid, I can tank multiple mobs in these instances, which I have done before. We should be fine, based on my experience. It's up to you though.
Him: You can't tell me shit's not going to happen, because it will. A mage can polymorph adds.
Me: Or we could just not pull adds, or I could just tank the adds.
Me: You know, I could kick one of the rogues and invite the mage. It's up to you; we need a healer spot, so if you would like to leave, I will grab Frostmage instead. Or we can try with two rogues. Up to you.

At which point, he'd either stay or leave, but without the drama. And here is what HE could do to avoid the drama:

Him: I got us a mage for CC. Invite Frostmage.
Me: A pair of saps aren't enough CC?*
Him: Can't sap in combat.
Me: And your point is?
Him: Shit happens. I like to have a mage poly in my groups for when it does.
Me: Or we could just not pull adds, or I could just tank the adds.
Me: You know, I could kick one of the rogues and invite the mage...but chances are, it won't be Otherrogue.
Him: Yeah, I don't feel like running in a group with two rogues. Grab that mage then. Good luck to your party! I am dropping the group now, bye.
Me: *Invites mage he named*
Me: Have a nice day!

Oh, and CC is not mandatory at all, not even in heroics.

I do know how to manage conflicts, but I've gotten sick of people saying what we do or don't need. Personally, I think his real reason was that he wanted the other rogue out so he didn't have to fight over an item. I'm also just plain sick of people acting like I'm an idiot and having a holier than thou attitude and basically telling me I don't know what I'm doing...and these people that are as stuck on "we need to CC everything in every pull!!" as they were stuck on "if you have a heal button, you can't do anything but heal!!" Since I'm generally the one that leads these groups, I get a lot of "kick this person because..." and I hate getting kicked for no reason or for a stupid reason, so I don't do it to other people. I always prefer to try the group as is, especially if I'm having a hard time getting a group together. If it doesn't work, I do what I can to rotate one or more people out and get other people in. A lot of times, though, it does work (especially if the healer is good). In my opinion, if you think we need enough CC to deal with every mob in the largest pull in the place, then you're doubting your abilities not only in your role, but in working as a team, as well.

Yeah, it's all frustrating ^_^ So I gather you basically got fed up with some attitudes and it all boiled over on that rogue's comment, hehe. I find the easiest thing is to inform people you have that crown of the group leader and you WILL do things your way in your group, while they don't have to stay.

I recently flipped out on a kid who left, literally, midpull to have dinner. He was the mainhealer, we wiped of course (it was a timed event too: Hillsbrad, ffs) and then he had the nerve to accuse me of dramatizing death in a computer game. He also complained about being called a kid, since he was 17. Funny people out there.

On the subject of CC: just yesterday, we went to a heroic BF... Warrior tank, pally dps, priest healer, rogue (non-imp-sap) and my hunter. The only CC we used were my double traps. It was kinda tricky toward the end, where the big demons hit for 7-9k non-crit, but we finished the instance, and it was fun. I took pictures of the two demons cooling it in my two traps, hehe.
