A growing scam I'm seeing more of lately

Okay, I keep seeing this one on my server, and it's actually gotten a few of my friends, so I'm going to post about it here to raise awareness.

Lately, level 1's have been offering to sell Trading Card Game in-game codes with the intention of never following through. Usually it's either a Spectral Tiger or a Riding Turtle, but I've seen other items used.

Generally, they'll offer the item at around 1000g or less, which makes it very tempting for a lot of people. They'll get at least 2-12 people interested, get the gold, then give the interested party a fake, non-working code. By the time you've pulled up the website to redeem the code, and/or gotten to Booty Bay, they're long gone. Usually at the point they give you the code, they mail the gold off to their main, log off and delete the character, thinking this makes them safe from a GM finding them later. It does not.

If this happens to you, file a ticket with a GM immediately. It will take them a few days to a week or longer to get back to you, because they'll have to escalate the ticket for a Senior GM to investigate, but so far everyone I know that this has happened to has gotten their gold back.

I suspect the reason this scam is so popular suddenly is because of the fact it does take awhile for the GMs to refund your gold, so the scammer thinks they've gotten away with it, and then advise other like-minded people that it works. "Hey man, I just got 4000g in one day!" etc.

Some tips to avoid this happening to you:
1. If the person is selling the code from a level 1 alt, it's 99% likely it's a scammer.

2. If the person is insistent that you pay the entire amount up front, it's not a good sign.

3. If they try to rush you into making a choice on the spot, it's a bad sign. "Look, my parents are yelling at me to come get dinner." "I've got 3 other people interested...you want this or not?"

Basically, a legit seller will likely be doing so on a higher leveled character, and be more likely to be willing to go half up front, and half once you redeem the code. Granted, these aren't sure ways to weed out the fraudulent sellers, but it can help.

It is not against the Terms of Service for a player to sell the card codes in-game for in-game gold, but it is very easy to get scammed in this manner. Please, if you have any doubt that the seller isn't 100% legit, then don't go for it. But worst case, you CAN get your gold back, and I suspect the scammer will get punished for it.

So please be on the lookout, and keep an eye on any friends or loved ones who are tempted by these offers, and take as many precautions as you can, or just don't do it.

So, after much on- and - off action, my little Tauren Druid, Onakoko, finally hit level 40!

No screenie, sadly, as it kinda caught me off guard, but Aurasai donated her mount money, so now she rockin' a sweet Brown Kodo.  I'm one step closer to that Resto Druid!

Just had to share!

EDIT:  Mount screenie!

One thing that feels good...

When, at level 59, you decide that it'd be a good thing to get the PVP mount, and decide to look at how many badges it takes...

Need 30 of each badge from Warsong Gulch, Arathi Basin, and Alterac Valley.

Then you look at what you've got:

WSG: 18
AB: 12
AV: 20

I've played AV more than that, I've just already bought some things with some badges.. heh.

But realizing that you're so close, and don't have a LOT of farming to do (of badges) feels good.

So now for the discussion/whatever..

Ever done the same thing (or similar)? Also, anyone have screenies of what the 3 alliance PVP mounts look like? Heh.. I do believe it's a Black War Steed, Black War Ram, and a Black War Tiger. From WoW.com:
http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/basics/mounts/special.html#pvp
http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/imageviewer.html?/info/basics/mounts/,special/,15,29,http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/basics/mounts/special.html#av

*actually LOOKS at the page* Oo.. the Talbuks you can ride at lvl 60? Hmmm....

Looks like it'd be too much to farm the tokens for that, though... since I have 0. heh. I'm also gonna have to farm gold. bad. grr. lol. I'm BADd about that somehow... :\

And to throw some introduction into this post...

I have a ton of alts. Most are below lvl 20. I have 3 that are above lvl 20. >_<

My "main" is also my first character, a NE Hunter on Velen. She's 59.
My "horde main" is a BE Warlock, also on Velen. She's 2something.. 27?
My "main on this server" is a Draenai Shammy, on Boulderfist. She's 27.

And 'tis all... Back to your regularly scheduled community...

I got them DPS woes...

I have two 70s; my fire mage, Dietrich, that's my first every character, and my MM hunter Poradwe. My hunter dinged 70 a month ago. Since then I've been working on her, since I've felt the only gear upgrades I can get for Dietrich are from Zul'aman and Gruul's, and I have to wait for the rest of the guild to catch up before we attempt those.

Dietrich is all decked out in the OMGepix, except for her cloak and necklace. I could buy badge gear for those,[1] but I'm waiting for stinkin' Prince to drop this nice cloak and DPS necklace, but to be honest there's not much difference in them apart from the colour. She has a choice of two epic robes and I admit I'm undecided which to wear; I have the trinket-inna-robe chest piece from the bony dragon in Kara, and a world epic drop called Will of Edward the Odd. The latter has 53 spell damage and not much else, really, and I am testing out both to see what I like.

Poradwe wears heroic blues, welfare epic shoulders and 1/3 of the Ebon Netherscale set I am slowly getting around to making. She has that blue level bow (Valanos something) and the exalted rep ammo from Cenarion Outpost, and has a flamingo (Tallstrider) as a pet.[2] And she, despite not having the epics Dietrich has, outstrips my poor little Firefly in DPS. I have no idea what I am doing wrong on my mage. The whole thing was I would bring my hunter for the 'easy' bosses in Kara, then switch to my mage for more DPS in the tough fights. But my raid leader showed me the damage charts, and I'm all sad. Maybe I'm a crap mage?

When I'm playing her in heroics and Kara, I open with a couple of scorch and then fireball til it dies. I proc my trinket when it's up. I rarely use Pyroblast due to the six second cast time. I am out DPS'd by the two ice mages ALL THE TIME. I thought the point of fire was the raw damage, and frosty types are that there's some sacrifice of DPS for survivability... or should I just switch to arcane/frost for the quickness?

Why do I still suck? Is it my gear- am I stacking the wrong thing? Halp, I don't want to suck at DPS! I enjoy playing both equally, so it's not a matter of subconsciously sabotaging myself or something.

[1] And plus, you know, OMG SUNWELL BADGEGEAR, WANT.
[2] I am not changing this. So nur. My Salmie=<3.

Priest healing for dummies.

Alrighty! I have been playing WoW for over three years now, and I have never ever played a healing class. Well, until I made my priest. However, I dual leveled with a warlock, and went Shadow the moment I dinged level 10. I've since done quite successfully in raids as a mana battery all the way up to MH cleared and up to Shahraz in BT, but the priest is just an alt and compared to a hunter, shadow priest isn't THAT different and I've really started to crave for some real variation. So yesterday I specced Holy and grabbed whatever random healing gear I had happened to pick up along the way and went to Karazhan with a druid as the other healer.

Why you should not attempt to cyber with random gamer girls online:

I made a blood elf last night on Maelstrom named Maedira so I could play with a friend of mine (Elemënt). It was fun, she's kinda spiffy looking. Then this other (male) belf comes up to me and /flirts and such. It's an RPPVP server so whatever, maybe he was just kinda RP'ing so I /wink at him and he asks what I'm up to for the evening....

It amused me anyways )

Pet leveling.

So I've been trying for a week to tame Humar the Pridelord and have been parking myself at the base of his tree every time I log out. FINALLY today when I logged into the game, there he was! Sitting there staring me in the face!

Now, the problem is, my adorable new kitty is level 23. And I am level 70. Ouch. That's a big level discrepancy.

So I come to you ladies for advice! What's the best way to go about leveling such a low-level pet to 70? Does he get more experience if I grind stuff in Outland rather than mobs around his level? Any tips would be much appreciated. :)

My first time: Deadmines

My first instance was today and it was deadmines. A level 70 gnome (guildmaster)  in my new guild took my level 15 mage and level 18 pally. I felt bad  that I died like 3 times dispite trying to say in front of the pally and behind the 70 warlock,  it appears that those monsters can smell cloth a mile away LOL
But it was fun and I got some good clothes for my mage ( can't wear it until level 16/17 but I have it LOL) and a very cool ring and wand.

By the time we finished I could not wait to hearth away to avoid the possibility of dying again.  It was really cool of him to take us at lvl 70 he had nothing to really gain but us little guys got a lot out of it.
I can't wait to get bigger and go again so I can enjoy it more instead of trying to stay alive *eek*

Just thought I'd share.

Looking for the gnome in plate panties...

Help me ladies, you are my only hope...
I wanted to show my friend (who plays a dranei pally who enjoys wearing as little as possible) the piccies of the little white haired gnome tank in the plate panties as that would be something she would really like to get her hands on (the pants not the gnome *grin*) but I can't for the life of me find the post. Anyone with better search-fu who can help me?

Warlock Advice?

I recently did a series of server transfers (Azuremyst-->Whisperwind-->GHostlands-->Zul'Jin) and now I don't know any other warlocks except my one friend who brought me over there to play with him and his girlfriend. The problem that I am having is that I am not sure how I should be levelling up my warlock through these last few levels. I am more conscious of my spell-damage than ever, but I don;t know exactly what I should be doing.

Here is my armory link - http://www.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Zul%27jin&n=Mediaeval ;

I guess what my question is, am I doing things right in terms of my armor and talent tree? If not, what should I be doing differently? Should I start doing PvP to get the gear? I want to get more dungeon gear, but I am finding it impossible to get a group going at any time that I am able to do an instance - which I will be the first to admit is pretty limited, as I am finishing up teacher's college and extremely busy.

Thanks so much

onto the rogue questions :)

good evening ladies,

earlier in the week i asked for some advice regarding my hunter's gear (anaiis), and suggestions on getting raid ready. i got some awesome feedback so when my husband ding'd the big 7-0 tonight (shadowzorro), and told me he wanted feedback on HIS gear, i told him i knew the place to go. :)

he is content being subtlety/assassination, but (like me) isn't very informed on what would be a good route gear/stat/spec wise for end game material. we plan on getting kara key'd together before teh patch (*crosses fingers*), and it would be awesome if he had some tips to ponder.

so please, leave any helpful feedback you can think of! :)

on a side note, i took many of your advice, and updated my crappy bracer gem (if only i'd known i could DO that before someone pointed it out xD) and put +40 atp/10 crit rating leg armor on my pants. (i'm working on getting the better pattern). i do still need new boots though. >.>

Advice for a new raider

Hello ladies! I have been watching the community for the past few weeks and really appreciate all the advice everyone gives out. I am newly 70 ( within the last few weeks ). I have been regularly running instances/heroics and had a few friends helping me get geared for raids but they up and left my server and the husband knows nothing about mages. My toons name is Mythsgirl on Dunemaul server. I would post a link but tbh I'm posting this from my mil's house on my blackberry :). I was just wanting to know where I need to go with my gear/stats to be raid ready?

Really nice people

A few weeks ago, an online friend of mine mentioned he'd just picked up WoW and was getting (predictably) hopelessly addicted. Now, I've been playing for ... wow, upwards of two years now ... so I just laughed and told him to have fun. I even rolled a new character on his server to chat with him a little - he's in the US and I play on the Oceanic servers - but I quickly got bored because, well, having no bags and no gold to buy bags really kind of sucks. I played that alt off and on, but I couldn't be bothered spending much time on it, really - I'd rather play my main or the alts that have access to my main's gold supply, y'know?

So today I logged onto it on a whim and my friend was online - better yet, he was in Ironforge as well. We chatted as usual, but this time it so happened his GM was online and he offered to wangle me an invite to his guild. I shrugged, accepted. Can't hurt; green text is always good. After I get the invite, I have a look at the guild pane - it's a levelling guild, as I expected. Don't expect much from those, right? Just some people to talk to while questing, that's about it ...

Well, wow, little did I know, they're the nicest people I've ever met in WoW. Within two minutes of meeting me one of my new guildies (who also happened to be in IF) decided I needed a guild tabard so she runs off to get me one ... comes back and trades me a tabard plus 1g, a big amount when you're level 10 and have all of 45s to your name. A not-insignificant amount to a level 43, either. That's just the tip of the iceberg, within the hour, I'm a total of 3g richer, kitted out with bags, have like five greens plus mid-level enchants/armor kits where I wore greys before, they're offering me help with quests and all that jazz.

Now, it's not a big amount, but these guys ... these guys had known me for all of two minutes before they started piling me with stuff. Not a lot of stuff, mind, but definitely enough to make a difference. And they're all in their 30s, 40s - high level enough to afford to help, certainly, but not high enough that they'd throw gold and time into helping someone without reservations. I mean, it's staggering generous, really. I have 2 70s myself, several thousand gold across several characters (although not on that server, obviously) - they didn't know that, so I almost felt bad accepting their help, but it was the kind of situation where you have to accept a sincere gift or offend the giver, d'you know what I mean?

Anyway, er, I just had to gush. And/or share my amazement. Because honestly, when was the last time you helped a newbie (or even a reroller) in this fashion? I know it's been a long time since I have, and I'm somewhat ashamed of that, now.
