So, our Kara/ZA guild was caught in the same trap as many other ladies here. We had roughly 10-15 people or so in the guild, but not enough to tackle 25 man content. We lost a few people who wanted to progress faster or had real life complications. So, we posted a nice note on our realm forums and met up with a guild just starting Kara.
The first week was rough. Since about 5 of us have been running Kara for months, we're totally geared. So, we gave up most of the raid spots for the new folks. Some of the new folks were our own new members and some were the other guild's members. First week did not go great. Nice people, all friendly and polite, but just not enough DPS. They downed through Curator and couldn't tackle Shade or Illhoof, so everyone was feeling a bit discouraged.
But, this week, we finally got enough folks for two Kara runs. We split up the old and new guard and headed in. Both groups did really well. Our group got through Shade (decided to wait on Nightbane and Illhoof in favor of having the port up to Shade's room next time). The second group decided to kill Nightbane first and ended after getting him down. Our MT got his much desired chestpiece off of Nightbane, while I continue to pine away for the Big Bad Wolf's gun. But, we only sharded two purple items, which meant everyone got a bunch of gear they could use. In the past, we've sharded almost an entire Kara run, leaving our guild bank with over 60 void cyrstals, so it was nice to be able to tell people to be greedy and if you ever, might, maybe need this piece of gear, please take it.
It was also the first night for my husband and I to really run the show. My husband is a Prot Pally, so he was tanking most everything. As the hunter . . . well, I kept traps on the healers, pulled mobs off of wayward clothies, and MDed my little heart out. Plus, we'd never led a raid before, but made a great team. Husband did most of the strategic talking (although I filled in when he forgot) and I played cheerleader, sending tells to people who were doing well, complimenting the healers, etc. Everyone got along great, the new guildies seem to really like running with us, and they're progressing in Kara and getting good gear. Plus, we only wiped twice, once to my husband, god bless him, backing into Curator before we were ready and once learning the Shade fight. Otherwise, every boss went down first attempt.
I was always terrified by guild mergers, but so far, this one has gone incredibly smoothly. Just wanted to share a nice story here, instead of my usual venting.
