Is learning a skill just because the weapon looks cool dumb?
Hi ladies,

I was curious, would you call it stupid to learn a new weapon skill just because you think the weapon looks cool? I have a level 9 undead Warlock on Kargath that my friend and I started a couple days ago (he has a lock too, twin to mine.. lol ... ). We were doing the quest in the pumpkin patch thing, where you need to steal pumpkins. Well as we were killing the farmers, one dropped that broom. I picked it up, a staff, and looked at how it would look on my character. I thought it looked pretty nifty. Since warlocks can learn staves, I was thinking of making that very very long run over to Thunderbluff tonight to pick up the skill. Before I make the trip, I thought I'd ask to see if anyone thought that was a stupid move - getting the weapon skill just so I can actually hold/use the broom. Right now I know swords and daggers. She's also my first warlock (which I happen to really enjoy.. thinking of making another warlock - maybe undead again - so I can play solo when my friend isn't on. We've decided we're going to level the warlocks together, playing only when one another is on.)

So, what's your opinion folks? Should I make the trip and buy the skill, or just vendor the broom?

Thanks!

EDIT: Thanks to everyone for their input! My friend and I ran our little undead warlocks to Thunder Bluff last night and got the staves skill. So now my gal is swinging around a broom lol. :) Too cute! :)

Nah, I'm all about the cool looking stuff. Plus, learn a new weapon and when future cool looking staves drop you'll be all set!

Oooh... love the icon! :)

Thanks for the comment! I was thinking that too - about the staves dropping. When my buddy logs in tonight, I'll ask him about doing the longer than life run to TB - unless some higher level Lock from our guild is over there. ;) Although, running it will get XP and flight paths. :D

*nods* Cool, thanks! My buddy said "You really sweep up the enemy!" HAHAHA.. then proceeded to tell the Scarlet humans that we were pounding on that the Foresaken will take back the lands hahaha. Too rich.. (you'd have to be there haha)

Ya, that's what a friend of mine suggested before - learning everything you can from the weapon trainers.

keep the broom! you have no idea what I went through to get it for halloween ;) only hordies can kill those farmers, so i had to grind em with my hordie, and transfer it over the Booty Bay AH to my alliance, it was a mini-ordeal. But really, a stash of just plain cool-looking stuff is quite necessary. And hey, I'm a druid and I trained in fist weapons, just hoping *someday* they'd make a cool feral one and I'd get it! lol.

really?! I totally thought they were alliance, cause everyone else said so. hehe, guess you don't know till you try it. Don't trust the thottbotters, is what I have learned ^_^

Actually maybe I was thinking of the pitchfork? Cause that one, I actually did get my alli druid all the way out there to discover they were friendlies. oops!

I would TOTALLY learn the skill. Because there are some really awesome staves when you get bigger, and while there's awesome swords and crap too, they tend to run more toward melee damage while the staves tend more toward stuff a magic user wants.

i'd go ahead and train all possible weapons while you're low-level. that way, if you're out grinding and pick up something useful, you don't have to run back to a city to train it.

staves are an asset for casters, and as a warlock, you'll be seeing plenty you'll want to use.

Go ahead and learn it, there are plenty of cool staves in the game later for warlocks as well that justify you knowing how to 'swing em.

:D My RP rogue is from Westfall, and I picked out the farm and everything. So when I need to level up weapon skills (especially unarmed) I go out there, get her really drunk off kegs of Thunderbrew lager, and have her punch the Defias taking over her homestead to death. Tons of fun.

My friend play a Human paladin on my account sometimes, and she's got a showel from the kobolds in Fargodeep mine. She's kind of embarassed of it though, she's all "OMG look at me running around with my goddamned showel, everyone else is so much cooler! /cry"

Ooh, I have a gaming friend who wanted to do the farmer gnome look, so I took my hordie and killed many humans in Hillsbrad til I got 2 pitchforks, one for him, one for me =D It's a polearm.

Thanks for mentioning the brooms! I WANT ONE!! And the farmer gnome is married to my gnome, and she can use staves, so, a broom it must be! =D

Then I can go looking for the farmer-girl clothes to put on my girl, they'll look quite the pair *laughs*

Thank you!! and yes, DO train the staff, you'll want staves with +stamina, +spirit and +int and bonus to shadow spells is not a bad thing, either, for a warlock.

Good luck levelling your character =)

Thank you! :) We made it to 10 last night, nearly 11. It's slower going with 2 characters running together at low levels, but so much more fun than soloing! :) (Although I like the class/race so much, I have been debating making a warlock that I can solo :) )

We (my friend and I) got the training done in TB yesterday, so now my Warlock has a nifty looking broom to whack people with. LOL!

Not stupid at all. :-) I always try to have as many weapon skills as possible on all my characters, so when I find something I can use whatever does more damage, or as you say looks the coolest. ;-) Good luck!

Thanks! We did the long run last night and got the skill! :) My friend has never played Horde (and I've only ever made it to 29) so while we're running along the Barrens he says to me "Where's the trainer dude?????" I told him Thunder Bluff, just as we entered Mulgore. I was like "He's at the end of the zone. I told you it was a long ass run." I just had to laugh.
