The Bloodelf changes.
Okay WoW players.
It's become about far more than just pixels. I know a lot of you don't care and a lot of you like the change but please, hear me out.

Because of the way it's been presented and the huge arguments surrounding it, it's become about sexism and homophobia and the fact we always have to be considerate of straight boys and their insane fear of anything remotely gay or girlie.
God forbid there be pretty boys in the game, they could be gay! God forbid the girls get some eye candy, the only pretty and sexy in the game should be boobs! God forbid the emotes sound vaguely gay, even in humor, since it offends their delicate senses, etc etc.
I for one am tired of it. And it's not just the look of the blood elves, everything I found cute about their character is at risk.

To quote a good friend of mine:
"There have apparently been posts from Beta players saying that the muscle is a good start, but they'd like the jump gone, the casting animations, the voice acting..."

I wrote a long ass rant about this here explaining why I want the old model back so I don't think I have to repeat all that here.

Some of you may think I'm reading too much into this and making a big deal out of nothing; but the fact remains that we have a blue post saying they made these changes because BETA boys thought the bloodelf males were too effeminate. After the change we've been getting a lot of posts from people who like the changes and throw words like 'gay' and 'bishies' around in a not too nice way.

I want the old model back and I want the emotes to stay the same.
There's a petition online and I really think people should sign it. I really think all of you should sign it actually, if you agree and even if you don't care. Because if you don't care, then you'll give the rest of us the variety we crave.

Thank you for reading.

Ok, I've looked at before and after pics, I've read multiple rants on this...

Am I the ONLY ONE who doesn't notice that much of a difference??

Looking at the previous posts on this topic, at first I was dismayed, then I saw the updates that the model changes aren't THAT bad, but, if the reasoning is that boys are offended by an effeminate character, then it just makes me angry.

Also, someone commented earlier (I'm way too lazy to look up the comment) that we shouldnt be making a big deal about how they look. Because we're female.

Well screw that. Just because I'm female doesn't mean I'm above wanting a good looking male character. Why do I have to be above anything?? Anyway. /minirant

Bleh if they get rid of Cam Clark as the voice actor. I will have to be very sad for humanity in general.

All said and done they are elves...ELVES...how the heck did people expect them to act?

It's incredibly disheartening to hear that the changes are being made simply to make the blood elf males "less effeminate". And if they change the voice acting, they'll be removing one of the major reasons I had for even considering a blood elf character. :(

Are you sure Blizz changed the models because players complained they were too effeminate? Is there a blue post or a press release or anything official about why the change was made?

So, they want a buffed up he-man, do they? Little do they know that He-man is, in fact, pretty effeminate himself.

Anyway, I partly agree. I would like to see "bishie" BE males, to be honest. They're supposed to be arrogant, better-than-thou and all that, and for that the old model worked *perfect*.

the side view of the new model is just sad. :'(

Honestly I don't care about the changes, and honestly I can't tell the difference between the two. All I care about is that Blood elves shouldn't be on the Horde side. As a die hard hordie, I really think that it truly sucks to have a "pretty" race on our side (I could care less about whether or not they are effeminate or not).

Boys suck! (Except for the skinny BElfs, of course!)

The original BElfs were awesome! Now, if they get rid of the emotes and animations I will be very upset :( I would still play if they kept the new buffed up models, but not if the rest of the BElf awesomeness went away as well. I guess it's not *that* bad, no, but I can't stand looking at those humongous arms of the new models, they look so wrong. And the whole reson behind the change is just utter bullshit -_-

Bring back the skinny pretty elves!

I hate to say it but I saw this coming once it became apparent that the male Blood Elf look-and-feel was a lot less 'Legolas' and a lot more 'Sephiroth'. This resulted in the race being embraced by a wave of insecure 16 year olds (physically and/or mentally) who see fit to mold the toons into their vision of what they believe constitutes real masculinity and manhood.

This whole thing is a damn shame, imo. More with the blues responses and excuses that Blizzard is feeding us than anything else, which are borderline insulting. I can't believe any PR/Marketing person with an IQ over 60 would actually come up with any of that.

I have to agree that sexism is a big part of this.

It affects the way the females of the new races look, too. I mean, put a night elf female next to a draenei or blood elf female, and note that the night elf looks more well-proportioned and even more muscular. The night elf! The blood elf females in particular have these spindly-thin arms. The draenei females are a bit too thin as well, compared to the night elf.

I guess one could argue that these are other races, so healthy proportions might be different for different races, but it is just part of a larger social pattern of unhealthy beauty standards.

I cannot believe people are calling the original model effeminate. I mean come on!

And gay? What, have these people never heard of bears? Not to mention that since the gym has been officially named gay-man church, the wispy look is really no longer on the menu.

This really sucks, though. I'm tired of having to roll females (especially as an RPer) because the male models are all so frigging overly muscular.

It looks like the sensitivity training for the GMs didn't do very much.

Also, people who think that being a muscle-bound oversized freak is not a sign of homosexuality have never been to San Fransisco. Men are far more likely to find that attractive than women, so who do you *think* is going to look like that? Men who are seeking the company of men. Duh. But then, teenage boys are rarely gifted with the ability to think things through.

I signed the petition. While the new model isn't *that bad* at some things, I agree with the comments that it looks like the blood elf males are sucking in their chest or holding in their stomachs. Elves have always been slender and slight. When I first started playing, and I still get a kick out of it, I was completely thrown with the fact the elves are so much taller than humans. I come from a D&D background and have never read any of the Warcraft Lore, so for me an elf should be a slender, slight, short creature - not one taller than humans. I also agree with comments made that elves who are so interested in magic shouldn't be muscular.

I find it rather amusing, in a not so amusing way, how Blizzard jumped to change the forms because so many said they looked "gay". It seems to me like they're feeding into the "gays are wrong" point of view far too many have. No, I'm not gay. I'm happily married to a wonderful man. I do, however, believe in equal rights and am getting really sick and tired of seeing people call slender things gay. The original form fits with the lore, from all I have read and heard about the race so far. It saddens me that they'd change forms just because some boys claim they look too gay.

Personally, I'm sick of the sexist, male chauvinist direction the game takes. They've turned every male into a power-fantasy towering over every female in the game - and I'm sick of it. It's sexist to push these body-images, and it's really bothering me.

I don't see THAT much of a difference between the two models. And I don't feel as passionate about the issue as most people. But, personally if I had to choose between the old and new model...I'd definitely choose the old BElfs. I simply thought the look matched the traditional view of elves. I also thought it was in humor that Blizz chose the original look, voice, and action of the male BElfs because they seem somewhat egotistical. And their flamboyant nature is, I think, funny and matches their overall character. They seemed more metrosexual to me than homosexual actually (I don't mean to offend anyone by that statement). The thing is they're changing the model to fit a more stereotypical ideal because a lot of male players feel it is "effeminate". But despite the complains I've read about female BE being "too skinny," I doubt Blizz would actually listen to them and much less take action. It just seems like female players' opinions are not heard as much as males.

You know, I didn't really care that much and in a sense I still don't care all that much, but after hearing their "reason" I'm appalled. Way to cater to a bunch of insecure homophobic teenage boys. I won't be heartbroken if they don't bring the old model back, however my biggest concern is that they dont make anymore changes.
