WoW_Ladies Travel Journal update

Our first entry is in! [info]littlegreenbook submitted this beautiful illustration for the pink volume of our current series:

The current series uses the Moleskine Japanese album. It's a pocket-sized sketchbook that travels easily, but the pages fold out in a single long accordion sheet, allowing people to be creative with their illustrations!

I still have room for a few more contributors for each of the three volumes that are in circulation now. If you would like to be a part of this project, please submit your information here. If I run out of room, I can easily launch another volume, so the sky's the limit, ladies.

Druid Healz - How to Tree?

I've been a Cat, a Boomkin, and a Bear (current main spec). But i've never been a Tree.

Tonight my GL asked if i'd be willing to try healing...just to see if I liked it. Our guild has a shortage of healers, and i'd been toying with the idea of converting my Boom spec to Tree anyway, so I agreed. Soon as I have a clue what to do with my talent tree i'll be off-spec'ing Resto.

This is where you lot come in. I've got some stuff bookmarked already (yay for the Daily Druid) but I always like to hear from more than just one source. I need Tree advice. Resources and links are welcome. I'm certainly not opposed to doing my own research. I'd been meaning to read up on trees anyway (as Druid class lead for my guild I feel it's important I know something of all druid facets, not just my own spec).

Usually i'd read more about a spec before posting here, but there's something of a rush for me to hurry up and go Tree. Gives me something to do while I await a new graphics card (lag so bad I can't raid at all...I almost cried the other night when I was forced to leave Ulduar 'cause I was getting 4fps on Razorscale). Really i'm just looking for some basic info, and some good talent trees to reference. I'll be using my Boomkin gear to start with. I plan to run heroics as practice-healer to see if I like healing and get used to the Tree thing.
If I can make the Resto spec work for me, i'll be very popular. My server seems to have a serious lack of healers. You can get dps for anything, often you can find a tank without too much waiting (since I am a tank this hasn't been an issue), but you can go all day long and not find a decent healer. You'll either get a bad one, or one that bails partway through the run. Seems like all the good healers hide from PuGs.

I give thanks in advance for any and all Resto advice. Consider me a blank slate where Trees are concerned. It's the one facet of the Druid i've never done much reading up on.

Does anyone else think it's weird that I like to play WoW while listening to Beethoven?
(yes, Ludwig van)
I dunno...makes it seem even more epic, I suppose....especially his 5th symphony.
OMG.
Seriously though.
Try raiding to that--it's AWESOME.

Moon Guard Guild Hunt!

I'm on Moon Guard horde-side, and I've run into a bit of a dilemma. I can only have a few alts in my main's heavy raiding guild, and I want to be able to RP on my alts as I work on leveling them anyways.

Here comes the problem, though: Where have all the RP guilds gone?! I've been on the look out for a fairly active RP guild with an open policy about RP alts and a non-linear storyline (I want to be able to play my toon freely without having to be tied down to a story "niche" as it were), but guilds like that seem to be extremely few and far between. I have a laissé-faire elf, a troll (does that need any more explanation?), and potentially a mild-mannered tauren in the future who'll need company when I play them. Is there anyone who can point me in the right direction?

Big thanks, ladies :)

THE TIME OF THE CRUSADE IS NEAR

Hi ladies. In keeping with this theme of me canceling out myself by being just as abrasive as I am constructive (those small explosions are probably just gas though), I'd like to facilitate a discussion of 3.2.

Now, I'm going to try to be fair about this. I'll disclose right here that I'm a hardcore raider. I'm not the tip of the iceberg, but no one on the face of the planet (with a few batshit crazy exceptions which need not be named) would call me casual.

What I ask of you is to recognize that this is a rather polarizing issue in many aspects. You are welcome to your opinion and I'm personally going to try to respond reasonably to you, regardless of playstyle or metaphorical spirit animal. I want you to do the same. Please refain from 'QQ Casual' or 'Basement Dweller*' name-calling; all it does it make you appear unintelligent and malignant (STUPID SPREADS). Also it makes me kick you in the head (9 out of 10 orthodontists agree; getting in an argument in wow_ladies is dangerous to your oral well-being).

I encourage you to be honest, and if I feel you have valid points, I'd like to add them to this post :3 If you'd like to talk about something not covered, feel free. I didn't want to do a patch play-by-play.

Oobie doo, I want three point two-oooo )

Costume

I haven't seen a thread like this before, so here goes. I'm a huge nerd (I guess everyone in this community is, by its nature) and I go to the renaissance festival every year. I usually try to scrape up costumes but I start at the last moment and they come out lackluster at best. This year I was thinking of trying to go as a druid. As in, obviously, the druid class. I don't have any specific gear models in mind.

What do you think the best druid outfit is? Can you think of any little tips or tricks to look more "earthy" (stuff like tying feathers in my hair, etc)? Would it be cheesy to try to go as a night elf as well?

And while we're at it, does anyone have any cool pictures of renaissance outfits or wow cosplay they've done? :D

Some pictures I am basing my ideas on )

Gain some, loose some

So in my 3 years of playing WoW I've been on 4 servers. On those servers I've gained a bunch of friends and lost just as many.

The reason varies just like in real life. You have those that stop playing, change servers for various reasons, you grow apart or they end up hating you or you hate/dislike them.

In the past 2 years of playing I've been on the same server and have a tight group of friends that no matter what we seem to work out things. It's great and thru those friends we seem to make more because if one of them makes a new friend we end up pulling them into our "friendship" as well.

On person in paticular is a great friend but the server hasn't been so nice to him lately. It makes me extremely sad how ppl treat him. For the sake of not broadcasting to everyone who this person is I'll call him Tre.

Why I'm Angry )

I dunno if there was a point to this.. I'm just sad/angry/upset that people do this to other people.. esepecially in a game! Is there no place safe from things like this? Maybe I'm naive to wish there was.

Edit: Above I accidently left out a word that made it seem like I want him to quit wow.. just wanted to clarify that I don't want him to.

UI questions~

So I was looking at the UI Monday post.. And soon enoungh I realized how plain my UI looks. I want it to be more purdy!

Right now I'm using X-perl, Omen, Deadly Boss Mods, Tongues, MyRoleplay, and Atlasloot. Decursive for raids. Soon to get Baggins.

Now, I don't want to get rid of X-perl, so I'm looking for a UI addon that can mingle with X-perl and won't start a fight between the two!

Any suggestions? Offer me some screenshots too if you can. :3

EDIT: My main is a priest, always healer. My others are DPS.

EDIT 2: Thanks for the Help! I now have Dominos along with baggins, Grid and Clique.. <3! And I love it.

/sigh

I just wanted to give one last round of thanks to everyone who helped me with my questions and concerns over the past few months. You girls are all really talented and you all know what you're doing better than anyone I ever encountered in-game.

Unfortunately. I'm giving up WoW. The boyfriend (who got me into the game) broke up with me about two weeks ago, and he did it in a very cowardly, very hurtful, and very horrible way. I posted about it on my personal LJ, if anyone wants to know the details. We had been together for two and a half years, and I never saw this coming.

Since then I've been trying to avoid everything that could possibly remind me of the time we spent together. Sadly, this includes WoW, at least for the time being and probably for the long run.

Good luck to all of you, and once again, thank you for all your help.

Baby priest

I'm leveling a very baby priest right now and discovering just how squishy they are.

This character was created as a way to play while talking to my old MT to keep him company on his new transfer server before raids so I'm without heirloom gear or any high-level or leveling buddies (since he's busy). He did send me 10 gold to help out a bit (I commented to him that I couldn't afford to train cooking yet, lol!).

I've already discovered that I cannot take on more than maybe 2 mobs and that killing Melanas is just not something I'm going to be able to do yet. Drinking after every kill is also very annoying. This is the first clothie I've ever leveled - all the others have worn mail/plate or been a druid.

Does anyone have any helpful little tips for a baby priest? Obviously I'm still low level (8), but from what I've heard it doesn't get much better. Am I just going to need to get used to the spirit healer or being OOM and hoping for enough mana to regen to heal in time? Or will talents help a ton? Should I be spending that 10g buying some starter gear from the AH?

Edit: Thanks everyone! :D

This one's a keeper

I'd like to thank everyone for their opinions and advice on my last Death Knight thread. So many people were recommending female orcs, but I tried a few of them in the preview window, and it just didn't work for me. But the other suggestion I received was for a tauren. I'd never had a tauren anything before, so I began to think that it was time.

So here is my newest character:

I don't know why it is that my characters seem to become more and more unhappy over time. First character -- cheerful and flighty. Second character -- still cheerful, but much more pragmatic. Third character -- gentle-natured, and constantly distressed by the violence of the world. Fourth character -- ruthless, joyless, revenge-driven and power-mad. Now this one. I'm almost afraid to think what the next one will be like...

Why yes. Yes I am.

So last night I had my first successful raid with my guild, as well as my first session using Ventrilo. My primary toon is a male tauren druid, and generally speaking I play male characters for many of the same reasons I'm sure other gals do - case in point, "Hey, are you a fattie? My friend is into fatties."

Me: ¬_¬....... No.

That said, though, this is the third time I've startled guildmates in an MMO. What made this time especially amusing though was the double-whammy... a long time friend of mine who also plays a high-ranking male character in the guild also participated in the raid - also using Vent for the first time.

The conversations essentially went as such:

"Okay, got it all set up? You on heals, Hal?"
"Not a good idea, I'm balance, not resto."
".... what the crap, Hal's a girl too?!"
(random other femme guildie) "Whoo, more estrogen in the raid!"

Yay for Gamer Girls! And on the upside I managed to keep all but one idiotic DK alive for the raid, since our Raid Leader was made of awesome.

Loot Roll Systems?

I was looking at some of the old discussions on DKP, and various loot roll systems and am looking for new input on the subject.

Currently my guild teams up with another guild to do 25 man content. We've pretty much got Naxx on Farm status and are gearing people up from both guilds.

Currently, the system we have is  main spec, off spec and greed rolls.  If you win an item, it counts against you on your next roll.  Basically anyone who wins an item defers automatically to the next person down who has won less items regardless of the /roll value.  If I have 2 wins, Jill has 1, and Pat has none, Pat wins even if their roll is the lowest.

Its GREAT for gearing the most amount of people quickly.  The problem we're running into is, a perceived unfairness when a pugger comes in at the end because someone has to leave.  We apply to Puggers a penalty of 1 roll each for coming in Late so to speak. But they still have a good chance of picking something up.

But it Irks folks who have been IN the run for 6 hrs, when someone new comes in for 1 fight and walks out with a tier piece.

Anyway, its been brought up that maybe we need to start doing a formal Loot System like DKP, or SWAP, or something in order to compensate the folks who have been there consistantly for run after run and put in the time.

My problem is, my experience with DKP is 5+? yrs out of date, as a guild I was in, back in the days of Everquest used it. And it was a HUGE hassle keeping track of points.

Does anyone have any suggestions on Add-ons, that will track peoples presence in a raid, AND allows that data to be shared between two guilds?

Any other pointers/suggestions on Loot Systems would be greatly appreicated.

Help the fail-priest (please!)

I've been 80 since sometime in May and gotten myself what I thought was half decently geared. I can do normal instances quite well, I was actually proud of my healing abilities. Then I tried 2 heroics and am feeling completely inept. I tried heroic AN a month or more ago and wiped on the first room with the constant pulls several times until i gave up and told them I was sorry, but this wasn't working. Then the other night (having got a bit more gear since then) I decided to try heroic Nexus, which I heard was the easiest of the heroics. It was a PUG (which may have been my first mistake, who knows) and my tank would regularly drop from full health to 1/2 - 1/3 and I would have to spam greater heal and OOM regularly. We wiped so many times the tank got disgusted and called it.

I would completely appreciate any constructive criticism towards my spec or gear. Also, is there any way I can get my crit up without sacrificing any of my good (spell power, spirit, intelligence, etc) stats? My armory

Jealous of the game.

For those of you whose SOs play as well: do you ever get annoyed at how often they play, leading you to wonder if you're one of Those girlfriends?

*Inspired by being a bit annoyed that the boy is running Ulduar again tonight, after he said last night that he wasn't going to, seeing as how he has raids scheduled for Tues, Thurs, and Fri and ran one for six hours last night. I really don't want to be one of Those girlfriends who get all huffy over a game, but I can't help but feel a bit bothered--though I do admit that part of it is because since he joined this raiding guild and quickly became their top tank, he hasn't been playing with me very much. My main is only 74 and he has an alt that he plays with me on. I want to get up to 80 so that I can raid with him and stuff, but seeing as how we've run the past 70 or so levels together (without RAF--we've been leveling these characters for over a year, now), I really don't want to start doing quests on my own because that just takes half the fun out of it for me. I'm not really sure what to do, though, outside of being demanding and bitchy and making a fuss over him raiding all the time (which isn't going to happen cos I'm not in the practice of telling him what he can and cannot do).*

OK, another Hunter needs help please!

Hi there ladies and lurkadurkin gents!
I've been commenting a bit but never posted.

My problem is that my DPS varies WILDLY and RANDOMLY from fight to fight, without me changing anything.  I'll be sending out 2100 one fight and then the next barely be able to break 1k the next.  My boyfriend says it might have something to do with my crit chance...so here is my  armory www.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml   (yes, the leather belt [and the belts enchant was me playing with my engineering tinkering...not keeping it when I get a new belt] and chest are not ideal, I know.  I'm working on those)  I'm wondering about when I DO have better gear (maybe you can help me on best places to be working on getting more/better gear...right now I am running heroics...I am afraid of raiding because of my insanely random dps and getting laughed at!  Help at all would be appreciated!

In regards to my spec, I play BM when I am alone and my Devilsaur (Reptar) keeps me company, and with groups and in instances I play survival.  I'll take criticism on my spec too if you have it cause this is only my second attempt at the survival spec.

Thank you all so much in advance!

Some squee~ and funnies

So after many, many, MANY agonizing fail raids on Stormwind and Ironforge, the other night I finally got my Black  War bear for my priest!! I am so happy! x) Much squeeee~

Now I don't have a picture of my Black war bear at the moment. (Wrong computer to be on), but this is my Husband's Shadow Priest, finally he hit Outlands after 3 years of being stuck in the 50s! haha. But the other night as well he was flying on his wyvern, while in shadow form he noticed his [Dispersion] didn't fade out. So he used it. And that was the result!

And another little squee, me and him made a Death Knight Alliance side. Both Draenei, we got them to Outlands last night and just starting the quests out. It feels so weird to be in Outlands as Alliance!

Healing Help

Hello ladies and select gents!

I am Tomine, a Shadow Priest. I melt faces in Ulduar at the moment, but what I am really after in this post is learning how to heal faces.

I can't say I have ever healed a serious raid on my Priest. I always just switched to my Holy Paladin if healers were needed. But, now, with dual-specs, I'd like to be an effective healer on Tomine just in case our group make-up isn't right for certain boss encounters. The other Shadow Priest is always asked to change to his Disc spec to heal, and I feel guilty that I am not as versatile!

I come here asking for advice and help with learning how to be a kick-ass healing priest. I am open to anything and everything about Discipline healing and healing as Holy. I haven't decided which one to try yet, since when I do- I want to dive head-first into learning its ins and outs.

So, some things I'd like to know about healing as a Priest are your major spells, glyphs, play-style, stat priorities and why you love being one. Discipline and Holy spec advice and comments are both welcomed.

Thanks! <3
