The woes of a gnome mage in Undercity
Yesterday I had the brilliant realization that doing all of the bonfire quests at a low level give a ridiculously high amount of experience. In fact, at level 40, something like 2500XP for the same-faction ones, and 4500XP for the opposing-faction ones. Having already done enough of these to get Brazier of Dancing Flames on my Warlock with nearly 200 blossoms to spare, and being more than half-way there on my hunter, the idea came to my mind that I should do these on my Gnome mage. Getting the Flame of the Undercity was easy enough in my care bear server, so I decided to go for that on my wee mage. Well, I managed to get it with no incident (our Horde seem to not really give a hoot), and quickly I right-clicked the item to get the quest. Much to my chagrin, I discovered that this quest is only obtainable at level 50. After much /woe and /crying, I finally just went to get every flame I was able and not too lazy to get (i.e. not the Raventusk one, damn it's out of the way).

I might have trekked to UC for no good reason, but I did manage to get enough XP for two full levels, and I'm now 42, just a bit closer to my 5th 70.

Yeah I waltzed into UC on my Gnome Lock at 39. I figured I'd get it while I was there getting the Brill/Sepulcher fires. I got the quest item while getting ganked by a 48 Tauren Shaman. I was like "yeessss, go me...50?! Aw man..." :(

Last night there were a bunch of 20s and 30s Alliance toons hanging around outside Brill, with a 70 gnome mage just sort of sitting there on his elekk. I kept trying to indicate to them that rather than hanging out on the hill in front of the inn (next to the forge), they should go around and over to the fire - not zerging through town like it looked like they wanted to do. They didn't get the point, which was sad.

I'm all for people stealing the flames and getting their prizes, especially at the towns. Cities, well... I'll probably help kill the 70s who try. In fact, that's what I spent part of last night doing. 'Course, I got killed a lot in the process - there's not much a raid-specced fire mage can reasonably do against 2 shamans and a pally who are all dpsing and healing each other at the same time. Clever guys, really :D

(However, those allies who ganked us at Gadgetzan... they can go to hell, the corpsecampers. I was lucky enough to die right in front of the flight master, but my lock friend was not so fortunate.)

yea, I have no problem with people going for the opposite factions flames. They're generally just outside the encampment, and you can get it without bothering anyone. But must you really camp the town before/during/afterward? I can understand the blitz through since you're there, it can be fun. But camping it? really?

I let people get their flames in peace, but once they do, they are fair game for PvP fun :D

Ganking is a no-no in my book though, it was fun trying to escape UC on my 70 hunter chased by a pally and rogue, a 70 seems to be more of a target than a wee level 40, hehe.

I zip'd from 67 to halfway through 69 doing all the fires (both Azeroth continents, all of Outland) except three of the opposing faction cities.
(The Exodar was cake. I loathe SW.)

How'd you get to Exodar? Or rather, what's the best way to do that and not get flagged to bejeezus and back?

We went -in- from the southwest side, from where the boat from Auberdine drops ya off. Some of us got all the way to the fire training guards, ran back to our bodies, rez'd, and got the fire.
But actually, the main gate is probably the shortest distance. That's the route I went on the way out and train'd only a few guards.. I even went back in that way to rez a fallen group member without aggro-ing anything.

The fire is located in the "upper left" of the Exodar.

wowwiki.com has a listing of all the fires available for lighting or desecrating. Hold your mouse over the coordinates and a little map pops up to show you a pinpoint.

Yeah, I was really happy when they put up the continent maps - makes it easier to plan town-hopping.

I guess the thing that bugs me is that it's relatively easy to steal at least one Horde fire - UC's has no real guard between it and the outside. Alliance fires, on the other hand, are all inside the city with the exception of Darnassus, but that's a pain to get to because of the whole boat thing.

Wahhh QQ etc :D

I haven't used this since hitting 60, but back in the old days we just took off all our clothes and drowned ourselves at the end of the pier. Ghost walk back and then rez on the boat after it arrives.

That sounds like a decent idea.

Of course, given the amount of time it takes an undead to drown...

naaaaaah, still better than fighting everything and its cousin and arousing suspicion.
