"Incidental RP", and a request.
So, I have a (somewhat odd) request, but to preface it, some actual WoW-related content.

So my roots are in D&D and other tabletop RPGs, and several of my good friends from tabletopping were actually the ones to get me into WoW. I play on Elune, which is a normal PvE server. And lord knows I look at some of the dreck that passes for "roleplaying" on RP servers and just shake my head.

However, every so often, something comes up that engages me in what I have come to call "incidental RP". A situation that just cries out for a silly little bit of roleplaying, even if it's just to give yourself a laugh.

For example:
-My fiancee's warlock had a very embarrassing Death By Parrot in the Deadmines. And so, she now goes out of her way to slaughter any and all parrots she sees. Whether it's running a lowbie through Deadmines, or the critters in Un'Goro, she makes a beeline for them.

-I have a gnome rogue based off a character in a D&D story hour that I used to enjoy reading. His schtick in the campaign was that he had a series of feats that meant enemies would ignore him until he started whaling away on them. The RP consequence was that the rest of the party tended to ignore him too, in often hilarious fashion. Anyways, Priggle is a brilliant gnomish engineer. When I was in Terrokar doing the "Someone set us up the bomb" chain while leveling, there is a part where you deliver a set of parts to a tauren druid, who's like "huh, wonder what these are". So I, of course, /say "Ooh, ooh, I know, I know. Silly cow man, I am an engineer, I know exactly what they are. ...why won't anyone LISTEN to me?"

-Another one with the rogue. Being an engineer, he naturally has a HUGE crush on K. Lee Smallfry (I'm a huge fan of Firefly, and have a bit of a crush on Jewel Staite). So one day he is fishing in Zangarmarsh when he gets this. So when he comes up to K. Lee to turn in the quest, I /said, "Um...I brought you something..." No flowers for this geek love!

Anyways, I was just curious if other people from the same sort of old-school RPG background occasionally do the same thing.

And now, the other request. I've seen an icon that cracks me up, and I seem to recall it being in this community. It has a pair of Pokemon with the cake from Portal. One of the Pokemon says "so i herd u liek cake" and then the other one says "F*ck yeah cake!" in an animated .gif. Anyone know what I'm talking about?

Let me start off by saying that Firefly is amazing and I love Kaylee!

Now that that's out of the way...Unfortunately, I never did get the opportunity to play any of the tabletop rpg's. The only d-20 I've ever used was for playing Heroscape, which is a pretty sweet board game, but not an rpg. That being said I've always wanted to play D&D and I'm currently on an RP server. But even on the pvp server where I got my first 70 (Draenei Fire Mage) I found myself occasionally doing some "incendental RP" as you put it.

I specifically remember this one time about a month or so ago. I was in the Exodar. I was feeling nice when a lowbie asked for a port so I agreed and waited a few minutes for him to gather his party together by the AH. In the mean time, one of the members was sitting down on the stairs to the Trader's tier and I sat down across from him and started singing Kumbaya in /s. It would have been perfect if I had made a campfire, but I never keep the mats with me. It definitely made me laugh though.

As for my Tauren Druid, I used to have a whole backstory to him (He's the one on the RP server) but I've never been very good at RP, so I don't RP too much anymore, but I was in an RP guild about a year and a half ago with some friends and we had some really fun times with the RP.

Incidental role play is fun, and I participate often. I don't have many specific instances, but I do have a lot of quirks that I do much like your fiancee's warlock and her Parrot obsession.

I have macro's set up for when I cast a few of my aspects. They are meant as prayers asking for the help of said animal. "Swift Cheetah, grant my legs your speed" is one. Of course I have them set to be said in the Troll tongue so even fewer people can appreciate my "spam." I get a lot of crap about them, mostly crap that I'm not speaking Orcish ;P.

If I'm waiting around with little else to do I often get silly. I've been known to put on noticeable gray items that had dropped off previous kills and commented that "If he wants his hat back, he can come get it from me."

I do remember once in EQ way back when. I was playing a Teir'dal necromancer and got into a conversation with a Teir'dal priest concerning Innorruk and our faith. It was a neat little conversation done entirely in role on the spot. He was convinced that as a priest of the God of Hate, it was his duty to use the power granted to him to challenge said God. He wouldn't accept from me that Innorruk, having granted said power, would likely take it away as soon as the challenge was issued.

I do wish Scarlet Crusade Hordes side was a bit more RP friendly.

Let me start by admiring your Millhouse Manastorm icon :)

I have a dwarven hunter who leveled all the way to 70 with two gnomes - a mage and a rogue. I decided early on, given his obsession with engineering, that my dwarf was obviously actually a Gnome.

Whenever someone refers to him as a Dwarf I correct them.
"Actually, I'm a Gnome."
"No Dwarfs here."
"Excuse me...are you making fun of my size problem?"

I tried starting a guild called "is a gnome" but I hate talking to strangers, so that failed. But I still have the charter somewhere.

I was very happy when he replaced his ram with the Black Strider from the BG rewards. I was totally over the moon when they brought out the engineering fliers.
He has a Rocket Bot for a pet.

Loves engineering, my gnome does. :)

(I also have a Night Elf that gets nostalgic when he returns to Darnassus).

The icon was the result of an instance run where the server was lagging out, so I wound up with the fire around the hands. It was a nifty screenshot, and when I tried to come up with a caption, it seemed pretty obvious.

And I hear you on characters who think they're other races. A good buddy had a human who was convinced he was a dwarf.
