Alt tracking?
How do you track who's an alt verses a main character in your guild? Have an addon? A nifty system featuring a bubbling cauldron?

Explain how...

In ours it's a simple matter of having their public note say who that alt's main is, and they are also in a special Alt rank.

We don't use a special Alt rank --yet-- but ditto on the public note.

We have a rank called "Alt", to which alts are assigned. The guild note tags who that person's main is.

I also use an addon called Chatter which makes a number of improvements to the chat window, including the ability to tag notes onto character's names for the express purpose of noting who the mains of alts are.

Hehehe, I use Chatter for that as well, which is hilarious, since I am pretty much the one in our guild that keeps track *by memory* of who is who. Since we don't really need alt-tracking magic. We just sort of memorize.

We have a rank for alts, including a different rank for officer alts. It's also noted in the guild note who they are an alt of.

We have no alts in our guild, but we have a public channel for alts & mains to talk in.

Moving from actual guild notes, I use guildfu to quickly determine who "billyjoebob" is. You can just mouseover it on fubar and it gives a nice list of the guildies currently online with their notes and other info.

Prat also allows you to assign alts to have their mains name in ( ) behind them when they talk. So it'd be Billyjoebob (Omgheals): Anyone want to do dailies?

I use GuildFu, too. It is super-efficient to see who's online, their note, rank, etc.

I use AuldLangSyne which shows guild and friends in the fubar tooltip. It also maintains its own notes which can be set for friends as well as guildies.

There is also Fubar_ChannelWatcher (or similar name, not at my wow pc atm) that can show any channel in the tooltip in the same way.

I actually use both Guildfu AND AuldLangSyne, because i find it useful to have one list sorted by name and one by zone. (To quickly see who is in a particular instance together.)

Rankings. Our "titles" or whatever are Guild Master, Officer, Officer Alt, Member, Member Alt :)

Edit since I forgot to add that we say whose alt it is specifically in the guild notes.

When someone joins our guild, they pick a name they want to be known by, usually this is the name of their main. Then, like everyone else it seems, we put it in the note on all their alts.

My alliance guild simply puts the name of the person's main in the note section. My horde guild does the same but also has a rank for alts.

I'm in a family guild which has 5 people and 30 characters. Everyone's guild notes include not just who they're an alt of, but also what their professions are, in case you need a trustworthy tailor, or enchanter, or whatever.

We tend to use the notes as most people have said above. Also us officers use the Identity addon, which allows you to add a second name whenever you talk in the chat window on a particular channel (e.g. guild chat). For example, mine most often reads:

Djaida: (Saphyre) blahblahmonkeypants

...since I'm playing Djaida lots but Saphyre is my main and the name everyone knows me by. It helps a lot when people need to find one of us.

We use the Identity add-on.
