Enchant Rant, or just bad luck?
About a month ago, my guild leaders announced that anyone by our guild's 1 year anniversary(April 11th) who had 2 useful professions would receive a 1,000g bonus for leveling a second good profession. It was basically just to cover the costs as an incentive. This meant no gathering professions and 1 profession being leatherworking(drums) or enchanting(ring enchants). I decided to go enchanting.

I'm not longer going to be reimburse because they changed the rules on us, but since I have gold to blow I'm continuing leveling it.

I've noticed something, though. Illusion dust is freaking impossible to find! Every guide says it comes from 56-60 green gear, and that dream dust comes from 50-55 green gear. I've disenchanted stuff at every level between 50 and 60 and all the mats go from dream dust directly into arcane dust. Where's my illusion dust!

I tried disenchanting "old world" 56+ greens, instead of "outland stats" greens. No luck.

What happened to my illusion dust? Am I disenchanting the wrong stuff, or did they (hopefully mistakenly) make arcane dust happen directly after dream dust? :(

I ended up buying a lot of dust overall. That level of 275-305 is the most costly. I did a powerlevel from 0-365 in 2 days. I bought about 75% of my mats, spent around 750 gold total for the items needed. This of course didn't count making the rods. Which I'm now at 375 with everything done, with a total of about 1300 gold spent total on everything to get there.

Man, no kidding. 305+ I'm gold, I have like 500 arcane dust and planars in the bank, so I'll get to 360 really quickly(I don't need 375 urgently, I just want ring enchant for healing). 1-250 was pretty easy, since we had a lot of mats sitting around, or cloth we could make into stuff to d/e. 275-305 is so painful!

I've only spent about 300g getting to 295 so far, but that's with a lot of very reckless 'buy shit and try to d/e it' spending. :P

Illusion dust is ridiculously hard to get, in my experience, which is why it can sell for as much as 10g apiece (!!) on Elune.

I seem to recall crafted runecloth-based items being a decent source. Find a tailor who can make 280-300 level runecloth items and d/e a few to see what happens. Good luck!!

Haha, the seemingly best sources for tailoring to d/e either required leather(= 20g+ a stack!) or dream dust, and I might as well just use the dream dust to try to level. :( It does seem like the hardest dust to get, though!

Actually I'm pretty sure Illusion dust is from 50-55 items.

I would maybe get 1 from 50-55 items, but I'd get a lot of dream dust. If illusion dust is 50-55, then what did 55-60 give pre-tbc? :)

Oh it definitely gave Illusion dust back in the day, but they changed the 55-60 table even on non-outlands greens. Believe me, I was quite annoyed when leveling my second enchanter. My first was done pre-BC, so hopping to arcane dust was awesome, my second was just a month or two ago and illusion dust was a pain in the arse. I'm trying to remember what enchant I used to level, but it didn't require much dust, it got expensive though.

Non-outland greens in my experience have given illusion dust for 56-60, but they are very difficult to find on the ah, since most of the 56-60 greens are outland greens.

I'm going to get the last 10 skill points with brilliant wizard oil from ZG rep, since I have tons of large brills and firebloom :)

Oh yeah, I used Icy Weapon to level up those last few points to 300. It was actually cheaper to buy the shards and the essences are super cheap now.

Yeah, basically confirms my thoughts. Doesn't change the fact that illusion dust sucks to gets, since old world greens are hard to find unless you farm them.

Luckily, I had a few friends lend me some crap and I'm well into the 300's. illusion dust is just the most annoying thing ever!

I do believe I made a lot... a LOT... of runecloth pants. Run through WPL and kill everything in sight (a decently geared 70 will have zero downtime doing this, and can kill every undead farm and spider in sight in a matter of a half hour or so) and you will probably net yourself enough mats for a stack of dust.

Zip through Scholo with a friend and DE all the greens, they turn into either illusion dust or greater eternals.

I farmed Strat as part of my quest to get enough gold for epic flying. I got a decent amount of illusion dust that way.

It's been a while since I was below 300 enchanting, but I remember how much it sucked to get over that hump between 250-300. I never had enough illusion dust and that was even before BC :(

Since it seems you're past 300 now it's probably not necessary, but I like Fizzwidget's Disenchanting Predictor as an in-game resource for determining what I'm likely to get from DEing something.

I was actually looking for something similar just for reference. I'm already 375 since making the post(I had enough mats to get from 305 to 375, just not up to 305 :P), but I'll download that mod. Thanks!
