Free Transfers to Dead Servers!
We'll see if it helps, but:

We will be offering free character moves from selected high population realms to other, lower populated realms to assist in population dispersal. The ability to move a character on the selected source realms will become available on Thursday, December 6 at 12:01 PM PDT, and are scheduled to run until Thursday, December 13 at 12:01 PM PDT.

In the event that a realm meets our transfer goals before the scheduled end date, the transfers to that realm will be disabled. We highly recommend that if you are planning to transfer that you do so at your earliest convenience.

Once the transfers open you can begin your transfer by visiting the Character Move page located here: https://www.worldofwarcraft.com/account/character-move.html

Well that's good to know TB will continue to stay one of the lowest ranked servers anywhere ever with no hope of escape save paid transfer.

:( I honestly, honestly feel your pain, because that's where Jaed was. At last wow-census count, I think we had something like less than 500 level 70 alliance. Hopefully we're a test case and if it works, they'll do the same thing for tb :/

There's like, only one guild on the server in SSC, and it's a horde guild. lol. Everyone else has transferred, no lie.

Where can I find this wow census? When I renew my account, I think I want to pick a higher pop server than the one I've been using. Shadow Council is rated high but I often have a hard time finding anyone to group with. :(

?

I've always found TB to be delightfully medium-high population. In a good way. Shattrath slows me down badly enough as it is, I don't want it any higher. :)

It might seem that way, but when it comes to running PuGs or recruiting for guilds, there's very little people to choose from.

The raiding scene is terrible as well. Everyone transferred off the sinking ship so the rest of us are just kind of stuck listening to people say, "Well it's an RP server, get over it."

whenever a cluster of RP servers ever actually fills up enough that they'd need to move people off them, you'll be the first on the list!

Seriously, they made too many RP servers and should probably merge 2-3 of them if they're all low pop.

The vast majority of regular PVP players have zero desire to play on them at all ever. I don't think you'd get a huge influx of people if they decided to give people free xfers to your realm.

All the outgoing realms have queues at the moment, so that's the motivation. They picked the destinations, because those are all realms that have been more or less screwed recently by outgoing transfers and they're at least doing the right thing with transfers and attempting to infuse life back into a probably dead server. As such, none of the source realms are RP realms... so it wouldn't make much sense to open an RP realm to free transfers in.

I just used the census for my server and it's 6:1 Alliance:Horde. That can't be good.....although we still suck at BGs. *sigh*

We, of course though, aren't listed. Darn!

How. About. No. :P

And for what it's worth, I didn't even realize Aurora was on the server until I transferred to get off the hellhole that is Zuluhed/be with my current guild. I'm quite happy when I am now, kthx. :D

Actually I play on Mal'ganis in a healthy raiding guild. People SHOULD transfer to great, healthy servers like ours. The attitude of asking people to go away is ridiculous imo. I will repost what I posted below.

If you never, ever played on a low pop server you will never, ever understand why you are LUCKY to have been on Mal'Ganis all along and everyone should have that opportunity in this game.

======

"What a terrible solution to this problem in all honesty and I play on one of the servers being offered free transfers off.

Instead of splitting servers, Blizzard needs to wake up and realize that people benefit more from high pop (which is WHY so many people transfer to servers like mine, Mal'Ganis) and that most of the other servers are ghosttowns which sucks for MMOs. They should merge more servers and make pop caps higher on the realms which are HEALTHY (like Mal'Ganis). Queues would go down, people would get to be on great servers which are robust and the game would thrive.

Enough of this crappy splitting servers and not realizing that the severely low pop servers need to be merged.

High pop is amazing. Great economy, no shortage of people to group with, no shortage of recruits for raiding, tons of resources. Why gimp so many player's experiences by maintaining this annoying low pop server overload?"

Too bad my server isn't on the list- I'd be happy to take my level 40ish warrior or 20-something warlock someplace to help out... I wouldn't be playing them as a main of course, but I could run a PuG every now and then.

This idea terrified me when they did something like it for Proudmoore. I had a handful of friends take the freebie to Azuremyst then eventually just pay to come back. Nothing like tearing a community asunder because your servers cannot handle the load of folks on them. =/

The idea of a split was so scary, since my characters are almost all in different guilds and I raid in a diff guild from my main one. If I wound up with everyone on a different server I'd have been so pissed.

Glad they didn't go that route with PM, but I think our crappy Horde progression probably helped the queue problem, with people just leaving instead of forming/looking for new raids. =/

I would have taken a merge in a second, but as one of the less than 1k alliance left on Jaedenar, I'm glad they're doing SOMETHING -- anything -- to try to help. Maybe they're putting a band-aid on a broken leg, but in three more months or less, there would have been no one left on Jaed. The "long-timers" who have been there more or less from server start and are determined to stick it out have started to sound desperate, and the most common word about server is "Decay" -- as in, we've gone past dying and dead and are into decay.

A merge would fix more than free transfers, and if this doesn't work I don't doubt they'll try that next. But I'm just miserable enough to be thrilled to death that they're doing anything.

I'm on dragonmaw. I honestly think its awesome that its so grossly overpopulated, but the server itself has apparently seen no updates since launch .. thus we get sporadic disconnects and server crashes. Which sucks in its own light but I think transferring to a low pop server would make my wow experience even worse. I think I'm staying put.

My server got split last year (Eldre'Thalas -> Trollbane) and we went from High to Low population. We only have two guilds that have downed Illidan, and pugging Horde-side makes me want to tear out my hair (especially since half my level bracket is on my ignore list). While I don't miss the queues, I don't really think the splits are a logical solution.
