So, I know 2.3 did a lot of weird stuff... some of the changes were good, some of them were bad, but THIS ONE WAS UNCALLED FOR!


For those of you not familiar with Telaar and the NPCs therein, Warden Iolol was the guy to whom you'd turn in your Obsidian Warbeads for rep, as well as the Wanted: quests that led to Durn the Hungerer. I was passing through Telaar on my hunter just now and was turning in the "Message to Telaar" quest when erstwhile Iolol said that there were some new listings going up.... but it wasn't him! It was this "Warden Moi'bff Jill" impersonator!

Blizzard, you need to revert this change NOW, worst undocumented patch note EVER (AND I TOTALLY INCLUDE MY MOUNT'S BUTTCARPET IN THIS OMG)* U SUX BLIZZARD OMGWTFBBQ IMO.

* I actually am not a fan of the change, "Moi'bff Jill" is really pushing the limits of what you can do with NPC names, and Iolol at least sounded like it COULD be draenei/broken... but I'm not actually butthurt about it like I was about the assrugs and won't cry myself to sleep or cancel my account if it isn't reverted :P

His name used to be Iolol, which looks very much like "lolol", or in other words the ever-obnoxious LOL that doesn't end and stops making sense as an acronym (people typing lololololololol instead of just lol).

But they changed his name in 2.3. Now it's Moi'bff Jill. :(

Agree, this was dumb. I was looking for Iolol the other day 'cos I just got an alt to Nagrand, and I found this Moi'bff Jill instead. Not only is it really, really stupid-sounding, but for non-US players it makes no sense at all (I'm from the UK and I *barely* have any idea what it's all about, and that's just from a Fark thread I came across).

Bad Blizzard! Concentrate your efforts on things that actually matter.

Back in what looks like the end of November 2005 (according to the upload dates on my animated GIFs), Blizzard's art department, in their infinite wisdom, decided that the level 40 Night Elf mounts (and the epics that didn't have armor, from before the change) were too plain and boring, and decided that what all Night Elves really needed to carry around with them at all times was a "buttrug" or "asscarpet" or "rolled-up sleeping bag" or some other thing. If you've seen the level 40 worg mounts (the orc mount), it's the same design.

It was HIDEOUS. It was HORRIBLE. It was animated poorly and it made me cry every time I saw it (which was all the time, because back then epic mounts were srsbsns and I wasn't expecting to ever get one (again, according to screenshots I did actually get one in June of 2006, but even still)). Looked like this:


In any event, really oldschool members of [info]worldofwarcraft might remember the post I made QQing about it as soon as I found out (or maybe it was when it went live, when we'd been bitching about it on the PTR for as long as that was up... it's been a looong time and I"m too lazy to go find the post). It was the only post I can recall that I've cross-posted to this community, my own personal journal, and the World of Warcraft official forums. I got a lot of shit for my post from this community (partially deserved, admittedly) and a lot of sympathetic ears and agreement on the official forums (wtf?). I said in my post that the butt-carpet was seriously making me consider canceling my account, and in fact I DID call them up (account management page wasn't working that day) to do so, and when the guy on the phone asked me why, I burst out in tears. Not really my proudest moment or memory, but them's the breaks :x

I don't remember how long it was from when I called to when I found out they were going to revert the change, but it wasn't more than a week, heh.

So yeah, that's that :P
