Tower Defense, this is not...

Simply put, Last night in Zul'Aman, after slaying Nalorakk (and turning in the quest for the 20-slot bag), we tried our hand at getting to Akil'zon but the gauntlet killed us to the point of annoyance. Now I know how the various creeps in Tower Defence games feels.

If I was Blood Elf Engineer from "Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne," I'd build a menagerie of counter-defence towers to aid our situation. Sadly, I'm neither a blood elf nor do engineers in the World of Warcraft have that capability.

Are there any tips/tactics to get past this gauntlet in a much more swift and painless manner?

If it helps, last night, we had two tanks (prot warriors), three healers (holy paladin, resto shaman, resto druid), four DPS (combat rogue, enhance shaman, hunter + tiger pet), three AoE (goblin tinker, fire mage, warlock). I forget the spec on the hunter and the lock, but I'm the Combat Rogue as well as the Goblin Tinker with my AoE eplosives. I can still do my Sinister Strike when tossing a bomb. It's a decent amount of damage - 600 to 1000 Fire damage in a ten yard radius - but it helps by providing an additional AoE. Too bad it's a one minuite cooldown and all exploves share the same cooldown.

Also, last night we made it to the top, but for some unknown reason the event reset. That tells me our group was good, but the event bugged out. Why it bugged out, I don't know.

Anyway, as requested above, are there any tips/tactics to get past this gauntlet in a much more swift and painless manner?

My guild only tackled ZA once on the PTRs, and we haven't gone back yet. However, for the gauntlet, we did discover a few things:

1) Our most successful method was to charge through. Just keep moving on, take on a bit more than you might be able to chew, but plow through as fast as possible. You have to kill the bird guy on the stairs to stop the event.

2) Those trolls respawn fast. And the first one to respawn is the scout who starts the event in the first place. So if he sees you while you're still doing the event, he'll start it again, and you'll have double the trouble.

Like I said, we haven't done ZA since the test realm, but hopefully this helps somewhat.

Last time we went... We nudged the lookout troll gently, then stepped back to the wall of that entry space. The lookout ran up. Two birds came from the front, and two trolls came from the back, and died to us in a few seconds. The lookout came back. We nudged him again, and started killing the gauntlet guards. No other adds came at all. I don't know if it's a bug, a feature, or what.

One tank in front for the pairs of elites, one tank in back to pick up the Warriors. AoE grabs the eagles and kills them when they spawn.

Your kill priority should be Eagles -> Warriors -> the other guys. When one set of elites dies move up and pull the next two.

Someone asked about it earlier, I mentioned our strategy that seemed to work.

Just posted this in another thread

Our setup included two tanks and a balanced raid including a lock.

1. Run past the lookout and pull the first two elites. MT on the healer elite OT on the other one.

2. CC the weak adds as they come in the back with roots/sheep

3. AoE birds (SoC is great) as they come in, have a holy pally or your tank pally concencrate them to hold them still for a brief moment for AoE

4. Kill the healer Elite, MT taunts other elite off OT

5. While killing the protector the OT runs down and snags the warriors and pulls them up

6. Repeat until you get to the top.

Just keep moving up and keep the group together so the tanks don't spend all day running to get their targets and you should be ok.

I was talking in our officer-chat when we hit ZA on Wednesday and said, "This place is a prot pally's wet-dream."

As long as the raid can deal with the casters, and the prot pally isn't sadly undergeared, it should be cake to clear the trash along the gauntlet, and between bear boss and chickenhawk boss (even if you get 7zillion adds from the damn scouts; they hit like wet guppies).
