Does WoW ever make you feel... old?
This was a discussion I had with my friends over vent, but I'd be curious to see what others think:

With the advent of the new patch, they're making a lot of lower level changes. Don't get me wrong, I am freakin' thrilled. I've got three low level characters whom I plan to eagerly level because of these changes. However, it makes me wonder what future players of WoW will feel like, when they've got people who've been playing for a couple years and complain about 'back in my day, I had to grind levels, and 35-45 was the worst time ever, and to get my epic mount, I had to grind uphill, both ways, in the snow'. My friends and I were reminiscing, and feeling really eOld. So, do you remember when:

- Will of the Forsaken was permanent (Beta)
- ...and so was Unending Breath (also Beta)
- When you feared Silverpine Forest because of Sons of Arugal, the random level 26 elites in what's ostentiably a 14-20 zone. (Up until present)
- What being "Mor'ladim-d" meant. (Originally, he was a level 35~ elite, in a zone where everything was 18-26, if you pushed it, and had an abnormally large aggro-radius).
- When you knew why there was a Keymaster in Ironforge, that didn't seem to do anything. (In Beta, so that people could test Onyxia's Lair directly, they implimented a Keymaster)
- When Consecration was a 21 point talent in the Ret tree.
- When Holy Nova was a 31 point talent, with a cooldown.
- When you had to spec for Holy Fire.
- When Blessing of Kings was the 31 point Prot tree talent.
- When Hurricane was a 31 point Balance tree talent.
- ...that centered on yourself.
- ...and Barkskin didn't exist yet.
- When all you really wanted as a wee Troll was that Ivory Raptor.

Feel free to add your own!

Back in the day, I could only frost shock someone on their mount 3 times, and then they ran away. That won't be a problem anymore!!!

They might think they can run, but that rank 1 frostshock is gonna keep em in range forever :D

I remember the giddiness I experienced when they made it so you could fly multi-leg gryphon flights with one click.

When warlocks were the laughing stock.

The best I can come up with at the moment is when flight paths didn't automatically connect, so you couldn't afk in the middle of a long flight (from say, org to silithus)

Not very old but still.

I remember

when dire maul was the new patch dungeon

being level 40 on a pvp server when the honor system came out...before any battlegrounds. That was chaos.

when the barrens had ONE flight point

I wouldn't say these things make me feel old (or eOld) because I'm still playing some MMORPG's that came out *before* WoW. And even though I played WoW in beta, and remember all of the changes and adjustments and growing pains, it's more of a "How cool is that!" feeling.

Although I *am* guilty of telling people to suck it up when they complain about how difficult it is to level or do something in WoW... I tend to go on one of those "when I was your ag... er... level" rants.

Just thought of one thing though. I liked the game better before battlegrounds came out. Now, it's almost expected for me to PvP and I'm sorry, I just don't like it, not in any MMOG. But, I'm so often told to deal with my dislike and do 10 arena's a week so I can get a piece of gear, or a certain amount of BG's for honour... no! I don't want to PvP that's all there is too it.

So, that isn't exactly an "I feel old" moment, it's more of an "I liked it better when...".

I'm not 'old' enough for a lot of those things but I certainly do remember my first 35-45 grind. Yeck.

Also being ganked repeatedly by Arugal.

Before you know it people will fondly remember getting ganked by Fel Revers, more so right when the xpack hit when there were 10X more of them and everyone was lagging like an S.O.B.

I remember my bf on his undead warlock having unending breath when I first started though, I think two years ago now, but I could just be making that up.

Something similar happened with Everquest. So to answer your question, yes, there will be a lot of people complaining that it's too easy now.

Oh, I also remember getting a lot of flack for being a Feral Druid.
Then when BC came out there was the nerf druids revolution. I never thought I'd ever see that.

also i remember my first trip into un'goro and being told to watch for devilsaurs. I laughed my guildmates off until I got ganked by one.

Fucking devilsaurs. Are they going to be non-elite with the patch now? Because that would make me slightly annoyed.

1) Priests' Inner Fire didn't have ridiculous charges and it lasts a full 30 mins.
2) Shadowpriests were really melting faces in pvp and ignored for raids
3) When you have to spec into Arcane for Evocation

One of my biggest lowbie accomplishments is soloing Mor'ladim on my level 30 holy paladin :P Man, that was fun. And satisfying.

Although I wasn't around then, I have heard plenty of the days when mages made better rogues, than, well, rogues! (Unlocking spell and stealthlike invisiblity)

Spirit Bond used to be awesome.

I still have my beautiful reminder of some of the old days though. Why oh WHY would you ever trade in this baby for the new model?! http://pics.livejournal.com/ayashi/pic/000f8rrt/g9

I'm not that old, but one memory is when they added connecting flight points and you could take the Druid one out of the Moonglade to anywhere, but then they took it away... ;_; I miss that.
Also, the BC era when cities were full of level 60s LFG for the endgame instances. It just seems too quiet in Azeroth now.

- When tier 2 look horrible and were just placeholder graphics. The priests looked like turban-wearing sluts, with cheap Robes of Insight.

- Captain Placeholder. :D

- When it was actually a rough thing to get an epic mount? Now the costs are all reduced or you can just PvP for one. Sheesh!

- Spending several hours in Alterac Valley just for honor.

- When Inner Fire gave + attack power.

- Whenever you could do the Benediction/Anathema quest with multiple people.

- When Silithus was farmed to Hell just for the AQ gate opening quest.

- When you use to worship the player who managed to have the UBRS key.

- Strath/Scholo = 10 mans, UBRS = 15 manned.

- When the leg/head enchants for ZG were a bitch to get.

- When 10-19 / 20-29 battlegrounds use to be fun without all the uber twinking gear available now. At least back then, twinks were stoppable.

- When you could get the PvP tabards just for having a rank/rep and not spending honor.

I'm sure there's more but I don't have my screenies to go through for reference.

- When WSG as the only battleground
- When Hemo was a 26 point talent
- When there was no honor system, or any other incentive to PvP.

Someone on my old server (Warsong) kept their ivory raptor and would get tells all the time about it.

I started playing right before innervate became a trainable talent. Stupid me thought that mean I could play as a druid and not get screwed into healing at 60. Think again! Rerolled warlock shortly after hitting 60 and being told to spec resto.
