My husband is playing a shaman who will be enhancement, and I will be a shadow priest.

With as fast as we will be killing things, and moving along so fast, won't it be kind of wasteful to drop totems if its not a long fight or an instance?

Should they always be used, or do they simply have their use?

Drop a couple of totems depending on what you're fighting. It's not wasteful if you're killing mobs close to each other within range but probably earthbind, tremor, or grounding totem would be helpful.

If you're killing multiple mobs, which I imagine you would, totems would be sexy to have.

I always felt it was good to get in the habit of what you'll be doing later on. That and, honestly, do you ever sit there and say "as an enhancement shaman, I have too much strength and agility, there's really no need to drop rockbiter and grace of air". no you don't. You may find times where the utility of the totems you do have are limited, but it's a pretty safe bet to say, especially since you can recall the totems you dropped, that there will always be at least 1 totem you can drop to your benefit.

I honestly never did unless it was an elite or something. Hell, I still don't when grinding.

Ditto.

Although, Im Elemental-focused for grinding, so I do drop Mana Stream... and I should drop WoA, because 47 extra damage on my shocks counts!

Id imagine for Enh, getting that extra str and agi is worthwhile.

Find an area full of mobs, cut your way to the center of them, drop totems, and use them to clear the whole area.

This is what I usually do on my baby Enh. Shammy. Strength of Earth and Grace of Air FTW!

I've been in groups where people were complaining that I didn't drop totems in every fight. I would maybe drop one if it was needed or so.

They continued to complain until a wandering patrol came and started beating on us when most people were just beginning to recover from the last battle. Saving that mana until the patrol saved the group. They didn't complain about my reserving my mana and primarily fighting after that.

Don't need to lay down something from all four elements, but just learn a couple that are helpful depending upon the situation. The stoneskin totem is usually a really good one to put down most of the time.

I only use totems when I'm going to be fighting mobs in that spot for more than 30 seconds. Stock up on water before you head out to grind, and you have no mana problems. And remember to put SW: Pain on before VT :)

Remember to pull mobs back to your totems if you do use them - you have 2 minutes from the time they're plonked down so make use of all 120 seconds!

Yes but until level 30...

Not spending mana on totems you can get by without, beats getting 25% of the mana back after you've finished using them.

If putting totems down can save you more time in killing stuff than drinking back the mana you use to cast them, use the totems. After you get Totemic Recall, change that to "if putting totems down can save you more time than drinking back 75% of the mana you used to cast them ..."

My only shaman is level so I may not be high enough level to have seen it yet, but how do you recall the totems?

I've been grinding an Enhance shaman for the past couple months. Level 47 now.

In general, I don't drop any totems but Fire for extra DPS. If I'm starting to get low on health, maybe a healing totem. When fighting multiple opponents, stoneclaw. Earthbind when running away..

In a group, especially if you're cleaning things up, I agree, totems are near useless, unless they are elites etc. Totemic recall is nice, but the return of mana is pretty small.

Pretty much it's a situational thing. If you're getting hit too hard, drop your armor totem. Need health? Healing. Etc etc. My wife plays a warlock I group with on occasion, and the only time I drop totems is when we're fighting 3 or 4 mobs at a time.

You don't use Grace of Air totem to increase your crit melee chance...? Do you have something against Flurry and Unleashed Rage occurring more often?

Heh, I go the whole battle with Rage up. Flurry may drop on occasion, but it's brief.

*shrug*

I generally save my mana for Stormstrike or the occasional Flame shock..

When i was enhance, i would always have str and agility totem out.

But thats just because i wish for a buff to make me feel better.

I always, always drop a mana spring totem. In your case it'll be doubly useful since you'll be benefiting from it as well. It also minimizes downtime in between fights.

Earthbind for runners and Grace of Air for the extra crits, but since the two of you will be slicing through mobs, I'd pass on these unless it's a long fight.
