Changing the world.
I have this idea.

At the end of a news article a while back there was something about never being able to make an impact on a world that never changes. So I got to thinking.

What if the top PVPers, or raiders, or any other people of great achievement on a realm got a statue? Nothing giant, like the entrance to Stormwind. But something double life sized maybe?

Top Arena person each season gets a statue.
Top honor winner each month gets a statue.

There would have to be some way to reward PVE players as well, but I'm not sure what matrix would be used for that.

Ideas? Thoughts? Downsides?

Now that there are no new Grand Marshals, gear is our only prize and glory. It would be nice to be able to change our static world, if only a little.

"Server First" would be the obvious candidate for PvE category...

It's still amazing that whoever did the "AQ opening" event only got a legendary mount to show for their effort, instead of some statue built for them in Silithus...

Server first is a bad idea...

1. It would always end up being the same guild.
2. Who in the guild gets to be the statue? or do you want 25 statues?

1. Dunno about your server, but on mine there is at least 3-4 guilds competing for the 'best guild' and 'first' position. And that's only on Alliance side. Not to mention it all got overhauled after the TBC, some guilds disbanded, others appeared, etc.

2. The whole guild, obviously. A plaque of some sort, or an obelisk. It would be far too much to expect an actual statue of actual players, I mean, what gear should the statue wear? :)

I don't think egos need to be fed anymore in this game. My vote for statues is nay.

Double agree.

Plus there's the extremely delicate issue of whether some of the "world first" guilds...well, you all know the allegations. Imagine how much louder those whispers would be if you had to walk past a statue dedicated to those guilds every time you entered your home city.

Downsides: extra patches. Either the models would have to be generic (i.e. a generic Tauren/gnome/etc.), which sort of defeats the purpose, or there'd have to be dedicated devs coming up with models accurately reflecting the winner. Now I could be totally wrong and I personally think it's a neat idea, but I really don't think it's feasible (or that anyone on the realms would care in the long run).

They already have rewards for the top PvPers out there. Arena titles, armored netherdrakes, sponsorship deals, and there's always the title available for getting exalted in all the PvP factions.

I'm not sure about your server, but we usually know which guilds are ahead on progression.

Also, the status symbol for PvE progression pre-BC USED to be the black qiraji battle tank mount which was awarded to the one who rang the gong to open AQ first(and all others who rang it within 12 hours), and T3 stuff from Naxx.

Whats this about getting a title when you're exalted with the PvP factions?? I'm exalted witht eh Frostwolf can but don't appear to have gained form it...

While I think it's a great idea theoretically, pratically I don't see it working. You either have a generic whatever race statue with a name, which is lame imo, or you take tons of time making a realistic model. Not to mention, that only fuel e-penis erections, which always results in Bad Things (tm).

It'd really be nice if they had something else like the AQ event. Outside of raiding and PVping there's really nothing to do as a 70. If there were some sort of server event I'd be on every day like a flash.

there we go. in order to be commended as a statue, a great player must permanently delete their character.
