As an Goblin Engineer, you may call me crazy or eccentric...

Music: Unknown - "Chrono Trigger Predetermination OC ReMix"

Description

...whichever would be better suited.

Last night, as I was in Blade's Edge, finishing up the Mana Cell quest, a guildie hails me and asks if I could help her on a kill quest, the one at Forge Camp: Anger. Anyway, I managed to score the schematic for the Felsteel Boomstick off of a Doomforge Engineer. Been farming for that thing for that past week.

The only schematics I'm missing now are the following:

As for how to get 'em... mostly under the cut.

In short, you could say I gave myself an insane quest only a senile person would do: To collect as many schemata/schematics as possible. XD

So the stuff in the LJ-Cut being said, the only one that pretty much eludes me is the Arcane Bomb. Being not only a world drop, but a Pre-BC Endgame world drop rather than a specific mob drop, it's probably next to impossible to actually farm. However, theoretically if one knows the Level Range of the mobs it drops, then one would be able to get it, yes? Assuming that's the case, would it be possible to obtain it nowadays or am I outta luck?

Druids and Priests healing together

29 Apr 2008
2:51pm

Mood: thoughtful

Description
Part question and part observation:
As a healing priest, I've noticed that raiding (10 man) with 2 druid healers, I find myself often ending trash fights on almost full mana without having had to cast a heal at all. Originally I thought I was just being lazy but I think there's more to it.

Priest healing is largely reactive. You cast the spell after the damage lands (or at least, finish casting the spell after the damage lands). You may use Renew as a stabiliser, or PoM in distributed damage situations, but our bread-and-butter spells are reactive.

Druid healing seems pro-active. You want those HOTs stacked on there before the damage lands, or GCD on 3 or four instants means you're playing catch-up or using Swiftmend.

The two philosophies don't seem to gel well, and I seem to come off second best unless I rely heavily on Renew, PoM and the occasional Flash Heal. Even in cases of spike damage, I'll be part way through a GHeal and the target will get Swiftmended.
I know with strict healing assignments the "competition" aspect shouldn't be an issue, but all healers seem to develop a pathological fear of green bars that aren't full.

Is it a matter of simply using the heals that fit in with my fellow healers (and living with the poor mana efficiency), should I be staking out my turf and posting the "back off my healing turf, droods" sign, or should I just spam smite and consider myself in a hybrid role?

(I've not played a Pally or Shaman healer yet, but I expect they're in a similar boat to Priests. Maybe not so much Pallies because Flash Heal is so quick).

What happened to the ship crews

Mood: curious

Description
I've failed to find any information on this, so I'm asking.

Why did Blizzard remove the ship crews?
I rather enjoyed having them around, and I miss the added ambiance. I recall seeing some note that they would be returning in a previous patch, but apparently nothing came of it.

Anyone know?

Graphics reduction?

29 Apr 2008
12:50pm

Mood: hopeful

Description
I was wondering if anyone knows of a mod, macro, script, ANYTHING to reduce the graphics farther than they already go. I'm on an older Mac laptop and there is so much lag in Outlands. :|

That and I'm a healing class, and when watching green bars get bigger I don't need to see the fine details on my troll's gloves or the fog or the details of dirt and grass. I just want to run about with no lag :< Or at least less.

Also any way to completely remove weather effects would be awesome. Those just amplify my lag. >:O

Does this exist?

29 Apr 2008
12:14pm
Description
I'm kind of an old timer in this community. I've changed lj names a half a dozen times now. For two or so years I've read all the different levels of guilds. We have representatives from Brutallus farming guilds here, twink guilds, friendly social guilds, barely made it guilds, raiding guilds at all levels of progression, and I'm sure bank guilds :P

What I want in a guild, I am unsure if it exists, so I figured I'd ask you all, not particularly for a guild invite but maybe reassurance that such a guild exists. Let me explain a little.

I play Horde. I love the Horde. I don't know why, really, but I feel much more immersed playing my undead shadow priest rather than my human warlock. I've raided with my current guild for a year now, taking breaks now and then just due to not being able to do the same thing over and over nonstop. Its an ok guild. We're learning Illidan currently, we downed Vashj/KT before 2.4, but we're kind of slow. Every guild has its bad players, but it seems like the bad ones just burn out the good ones. People come to raids unprepared, they don't read, they don't pay attention, they just try to top the charts or show up because they've nothing better to do. We get into mental ruts where we get stuck on a boss for no reason at all, while the raid outgears the encounter by a ridiculous amount. Archimonde is hit or miss, Illidan should've been dead weeks ago.

I've often felt that I need a more hardcore guild. I want a guild that's more oriented on progression than personal happiness. I want a guild who actually will bench the shitty players and reward the good ones. On the same note, I want a guild who's understanding that 4 days a week is a bit much, and that while I"ll do my best to fill 4 days a week, sometimes I just need a week off. That's kind of the deal breaker.

For some reason the raiding community views taking a break as some cardinal sin. You're a pussy for wimping out. You're a flake. Its just a game keep playing. Maybe for some people that's perfectly ok, but I need a break now and then. I need to play something other than my main. I need to stabby or tanky or twinky and not just pew pew'y. And while I know a lot of people who do all of that, none of them have full time jobs. Its just impossible to keep a 40-50 hour job, raid 4 nights a week, farm consumables, and still have time to do non raiding fun stuff AND have a non-wow life, unless you're allowed to take a break now and then.

So I've found, from all the guilds I've been in, there doesn't seem to be an actively progressing guild like the one I want. There are extremes and failures. Either the guild is extremely hardcore and gkicks you for taking a day off, or extremely casual and stuck on Anetheron for the last 4 weeks. Or they try to meet in the middle and ultimately fail at both. This ideal guild doesn't seem to be that hard to accomodate, but I've yet to see it. It also doesn't help that I"m west coast and horde, limiting my player base by a significant ton.

Should I reroll Alliance? There are more people who play alliance so theoretically I'll have better luck finding what I'm looking for. Or does a raiding guild not exist where they simultaneous take raiding seriously and let you take a break and play your alt or dear god go outside? Any words of wisdom are welcome, even if its just to say "nope doesn't exist, pick a side and stick with it." And if you're in this community and from my guild, you'll know who I am. Say hi :)

Anyway, sorry about the tl;dr

Warrior Tank questions

29 Apr 2008
12:11pm
Description
I have a couple questions regarding Prot Warriot gear. I am a tank fast approaching 70 and want to be the best tank I am capable of. Here is my armory link.

http://www.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Bronzebeard&n=Tiskin

Depending on when it updates, I may or may not be in tanking gear...

Ok, my main question has to do with stats. Obviously, I need to be uncrittable. And a good amount of Block/parry/dodge is required. The warrior captain in my guild says simply stack tons of stamina and not to worry about strength to much. I believe that having good strength is beneficial, as I can cause more damage, and therefore gain more threat. What I didn't tell him is that I read white damage also gets you rage, so if every regular swing is stronger, than more rage for abilities. Now on bosses this is irrelevant, as anything 70 would give you near unlimited rage, but of trash mobs, more rage is invaluable. Also he never mentioned hit rating, while I probably don't need to be capped, a decently high hit rating can always help. Also I just found out that hit rating makes taunt less likely to be resisted. Any opinions would be highly appreciated, as well as any advise.

Expert keyboard/mouse controls in arena

29 Apr 2008
11:34am
Description
So there is a scale of keyboard/mouse control expertise in arena that looks something like:

Experts <-----------------------> Clickers

Clickers being those who move and turn with A, D, W and S keys and only click skills with the mouse. I've seen a million posts saying that it is impossible to achieve high ratings while being a clicker. What I'm interested in is: What exactly do experts do? I'm somewhere in the middle where I bind some -very- common skills to numbers or functions and turn with the mouse but move forward with W.

Do experts move only by pressing both mouse buttons to move/turn and only use skills through key binds (and never use ADWS)? How do experts target in arena? Do they click on arena unit frames-like targets (this seems like it would interfere with movement too much to me) or do they tab (and if they tab, how do they handle a feigned hunter with an active snake trap)? Where would an expert hold his/her hands in a default position?

I'm also interested in how keybinds work with characters with tons of skills to use like resto druids. I have macros to auto heal me and my partner so there are 8 keybinds + 4 more for both of our poison and curse dispels + all the various form shifts and skills (losing count here), etc. With so many key binds, it seems fairly infeasible to me to truly keybind all of them and only use that mechanism but perhaps that is the real expert way to go?

Priests: how do you drive this crazy thing?

29 Apr 2008
10:39am

Mood: curious

Description
After having endless fun with my Holy paladin on Horde side I decided I wanted to play a healer on Alliance side. I made a priest because it was a class I haven't tried... and apparently it's a lot harder than I thought.

I'm still very low level (I just dinged 10 last night,) but so far it seems priests have it rougher than any other cloth class in PVE. Mages can usually kill things with ranged pulls before they ever lay a hand on them. Warlocks have a pet to hide behind while laying on DoT's. All priests have is a dinky smite ability and a fragile bubble that usually vanishes in two hits. I have died more times getting this character to level 10 then I have with any other. And I don't think you should be dying before level 10 at all.

I had wanted to go Holy with this priest, but what I'm reading indicates that Holy priests are very hard to level in solo PVE. Is this true? Does it get better? Or should I just bite the bullet and go Shadow like the other 97% of priests on my server? Is there anyone who goes Shadow for solo PVE and battleground PVP play, but then respecs for healing in instances? Since this is an alt and it's unlikely I'd be doing more than one instance a month with her anyway, this seems like a workable compromise, but it's still a hassle as I tend to prefer to find a spec I like and stick with it rather than being someone who respecs every other day.

So any tips and tricks for playing a Holy priest in PVE? Or is it an unworkable situation?

WoW in Personal Ad.

29 Apr 2008
6:56am
Description
I was browsing the personal ads on Craigslist and the title of this caught my eye. This is the first time I saw WoW in a personal ad. Usually, you want to keep such things a secret until later on in the relationship (preferably sometime after the 2nd year of marriage...). But hey, it's for a platonic relationpship.. hehe.
