| Calling for South Korean e-pal |
[05 Sep 2008|10:53pm] |
In the morass that is my LiveJournal at the moment, I lost a contact who asked me to look her up while I was in the Seoul area this year. Well, I'm here...and I've lost that post. Can anyone help me?
And so this post isn't completely worthless, some pictures from here in Geumchon. Daily written updates in my personal journal, most not friends-locked that you're welcome to read and share.

[31 Aug 2008|01:20pm] |
The school budgeted a few days to get oriented/acclimated, so I managed to get a few pictures. Obviously I'll be getting a few more later. For now, Ilsan, a town about 40 minutes out of Seoul.
Under cut, because it's hard to work Photoshop in a language you can't read :) ( Read more... )

| Lugu Lake & Tiger Leaping Gorge, Yunnan, China |
[30 Aug 2008|03:11am] |
Third installment of pictures from my trip to Yunnan, China, since it's such a diverse province with many scenic sites.
Lugu Lake is a less popular destination amount tourists in Yunnan, though it is famous for it's residents, the Mosuo people. The Mosuo is a small ethnic group, unique because of its matriarchal heritage and also famous for its "Walking Marriage", where the women will invite a man to spend a night at her house, but in the morning the man will have to leave to go back to his house.
Though not the most beautiful, but definitely one of the most popular treks in China, Tiger Leaping Gorge is a canyon by the Yangtze river, just outside of Lijiang. It was believed that long time ago a tiger leaped across the gorge, so hence the name was born. My friend and I did a two day trek, walking approximately 20km along the gorge. Easy trek, but very windy.

| Friedrichshafen, Lake Constance, Germany |
[29 Aug 2008|06:07pm] |
When asked which places I wanted to visit during my little vacation a few weeks ago, I said 'Lake Constance. Anywhere. I don't care. The important thing is that it is at the Lake Constance'. First we thought about Lindau, a small town in every aspect prettier than Friedrichshafen, but then we settled for Friedrichshafen. It was Sunday, and Lindau would have been crowded with tourists who wanted to enjoy the sun and the lake as well. Friedrichshafen is quite famous for the Zeppelin airship company it has been home for, but isn't a very impressive city otherwise. I didn't really care, though. The weather was amazing. You could see the Swiss Alps - just look at the pictures! The lake is of course always beautiful, no matter where.

Last September I was fortunate enough to go to Portugal for two weeks and visit my relatives. I spent the majority of my time in Lisbon and Cascais, but also went to Aveiro and Porto.
In order to save everyone from some picspam of epic proportions (1200 photos in 2 weeks!), I've broken it down by location. XD Here are some photos of Cabo da Roca, the most western point of continental Europe. Its probably one of my favourite places to visit when I go to Portugal, and try to go there when I visit the family at least once; the energy is incredible. Its also a 30 minute drive winding drive along the coastal cliffs from my grandmothers home in Cascais, so it was a nice day trip before lunch. ;)
Eleven photos after the cut.

| Batu Caves, Malaysia |
[16 Aug 2008|07:29pm] |
Welcome to Batu Caves. A sacred Hindu site in Malaysia.
We have to climb up 272 steps to reach the main cave opening.
( photos intensive )
I'm still awed by the huge idols outside, the lighting inside the caves showcasing the idol and the main sacred temple, feel very Indiana Jones =)

When I was younger, my parents used to take us to Destin (on the Florida panhandle) each summer for a family vacation. Now that we're older they decided to fly us here again in celebration of their wedding anniversary. Just thought I'd share!
