The Poems: September 14, 2007

When clean wind
clears away
red light exhaust,
head,
forepaws
and grin
roll out.

---Liz Jones

Lazy day--
don't stay away
too long,
there's so much
out there
to play with.

---Diane M. Davis

No Worries

I can wait

I can wait

---Deb Marshall

I could
have caught
that cat
if you
would
have let me
just keep running

---Susan Taylor Brown

If you opened that door
I just might go
And never look back.

---Bonny Becker

Perfect Dog Day

How cute is he? Here in Minnesota, people take their dogs everywhere spring - fall. It was a gorgeous day yesterday--cool, sunny, breezy, upper 60s, and on the way home from racquetball I took a pic of the dog in the car next door (I wasn't driving!). What's he thinking? What's his mood? Or what does he remind you of? Car trips from childhood? Waiting in the car while Mom ran errands? Let your imagination go and write a 15 Words or Less poem. Here are the guidelines, if you're new to this. Have fun!

The Poems: September 7, 2007

Cabin Fever

Firewood,
cots, trees,
Sleeping bags,
bumblebees,
Secret kisses,
boys to tease
Something missing:
"Breeze!"
"Please!"

---Pamela Ross

I have never been to a cabin
but if I ever go
I imagine
starry skies.

---slayground

Camp Piedmont

Wet suits,
Sandy beds;
Boating, swimming, eating.

Bad food,
Good friends;
Singing, laughing, flirting.

---Kim from Hiraeth

Memories...

Green cabins,
Girl Scout troops,
Giggles,
Chilly toes,
Snuggly sleeping bags,
Chocolate-covered s'mores faces.

---Catherine Ipcizade

Never Far

A hint of mildew,
wet bathing suits
over an ancient
buddy board,
brings camp
home.

Look, it's the summer camp cabin! Same model used today that was used 50 years ago. What does this cabin have to say to you? Does it remind you of any adventures from your childhood? Of the excitement/fear of dropping off your own kids at camp? Of the natural world sans cell phones and laptops? Camp food? Your fear of swimming? The thrill of archery? Dig into your own thoughts and share them with us in 15 Words or Less! If you haven't joined us before, here are the guidelines. And you can read some past poems here. Enjoy!

Uh-Oh

See my shadow,
Reaching.

My head is...

Laugh out loud,clap out loud,crowd grooves
To some flip flopin', eye poppin' moves.

—Deb Marshall

Dancing
Prancing
Way up high
watch my feet
soar 'cross the sky
with style.

— Diane M. Davis

Gotta try
leaping high,
feet to sky,
hair awry.
Passersby
wonder why.

I just sigh.

Summer's almost over, but here's one more pure summer moment...This street performer (pier performer?) was break dancing on the Santa Monica Pier. Could you be a street performer? What do you think it feels like to dance like this? What does he remind you of? Share your thoughts or reactions in a 15 Words or Less Poem!

That rhythmic beat.
Hope it don't eat my feet.

This Week's Photo

Summer's coming to an end and we spent last weekend having an in-town vacation, going around to places we've meant to go but haven't had time. We took the kids to the Guthrie Theater in downtown Minneapolis and sat outside at the edge of the "endless bridge" overlooking the Mississippi River. But my favorite part was this escalator leading all the way from the 4th floor down to the 1st floor. It was kind of dark and eerie and mysterious.

What does the escalator make you think of? What's ending in your life? What is the white light at the bottom? What sounds, feelings, or sights do you associate with an escalator, wherever it might be? Write a 15 Words or Less poem to share your ideas.

Can't wait to see what you guys come up with!

This Week's Photo

Hi everyone,

I'm back for 15 Words or Less poems. Thank you, Susan, for taking care of it while I was gone. I like the pix you chose. I might start interspersing stock photos with the ones I take. My pix are getting boring. But here's a scene I like: these people were busy building a whole sand city on Santa Monica Beach. How does it feel? What does it remind you of? What things would happen in this exotic land? Share your poetic thoughts in a 15 Words or Less poem!

This week's poems - Friday August 10, 2007

Here was the picture:

And here are the poems:

 Lean Times in Modern Architecture

No gingerbread,
No chocolate shutters.
Peering, the crone hopes
for children selling cookies
for lunch.
   ~~~ cute_n_cranky
Open windows,
Beckon the light.
Still, darkness envelops the room.
Sunshine!
Sunshine!
Where art thou?
   ~~~ Catherine Ipcizade

Lock picks failed
Time to take a crowbar to the windows
   ~~~janni
A Doctor's Visit
The door was
always
shut--
but now
I must push hard
to close it
once again.
   ~~~ dianemdavis

Finally,
sunshine slivers
inch
through
windows
to yesterday's darkness.
Rays of forgiveness flood the hardwood.
   ~~~Fiona Bayrock
Forgive me
Let me in
I didn't mean it
It's me that sucks.
Not You.
   ~~~ Pamela Ross

Your grey house
Your grey door
Your bare windows
Your bare floor
Less is more
   ~~~ Pamela Ross
or out
or in
again
make up your mind
This Week's Poems - August 3, 2007
Don't look at me;
Just go away!
No hugs,
No jokes,
No call to play!
   --cute_n_cranky
His cry
remained unanswered,
and desperation
was all
that was left
of his world.
   --dianemdavis
Alone.
There is no greater sadness
than knowing there's
no one else
to turn to.
   --J. Bayrock
you
I hide from
me
wishing
I was
you
Well Laura and so many other folks are off to the conference I'm feeling a little bit like the boy in this week's photo:
What's his story (in 15 words or less?)
Here are the rules for photo poetry http://community.livejournal.com/wordygirls/12270.html
Write on, right now.
This Week's Poems: July 27, 2007
My Internet connection is highly sporadic this morning. Ack! I'm going to try to get the poems here, and then I'll see if I can grab the picture too, but it keeps cutting me off. Only two poems today (I can't even get to mine on the other computer), but they're both terrific!
Misty wing slices through the trees
ghost flier
masquerading as spider silk
and dreams.
This Week's Photo
One morning, the...well, whatever kind of tree this is...in the front yard had several spiderwebs on it. Maybe it always does and the sun just hit them right that morning.  Anyway, it made me think of homes and summer homes. So write a 15 Words or Less poem about a home in summer or about spiderwebs or about whatever this photo makes you think of!
If you want to, check out some poems from previous weeks.
Horsefly-poem,
too fast to be lassoed
by pen or by eye
---Laura Purdie Salas
Watching
for the snitch
I hold my breath
in anticipation,
and wait.
The Poems: July 13, 2007
Silver linings?
Big deal.
I'm more a copper girl
warm, reactive
and some days,
green.
---Liz Jones
Wind witch sways
in velvet gray
And orange lace
A drum grumbles
Let's dance
---Jan Fields
Shrouded in fear,
change
suffocates my world,
leaving only
slivers
of hope
to sustain me.
---Diane M. Davis
Blissful gold
To keep out the cold.
The earth's kotastu.
This Week's Photo
I love watching the sky. I was driving the other day just before a storm and was admiring these dark clouds tipped in orange. So at a stoplight, I took a very quick pic (thus explaining the not great quality of the image!). What do they make you think of? What happens next? How would you describe them? Do they remind you of anyone? Let it all out--well, not all out, only 15 words' worth--in a 15 Words or Less poem. Hurry!  Beat the storm!
