Kitten LOVE [27 Jul 2008|04:10am]

charliekeenjr
How do you explain it?

The kitten I chose, followed me into my bedroom and meowed until I sat down and let him run against me...

....it's random, but it's a nice feeling.

...cats have their moods and opinions... and this.. makes me feel ok.

Vampyres of Hollywood Review is Up [27 Jul 2008|04:00am]

technomom

Originally published at Enemy of Entropy. Please leave any comments there.

The review is more detailed than what I posted here.

TCM is pretty cool, if you’re willing to read new books by unproven authors and review them. Hope, you’d probably do really well with it–lots of them are eBooks, which I have trouble with reading on a screen. They have separate mailing lists to find reviewers for “adult” and “general” publications, as well as separate lists for the reviews themselves. If you’re willing to review adult material, I’ve gotten the feeling that they have a difficult time finding enough people for that side.

This is the first book I’ve actually reviewed for them. I started to review an adult novel, but couldn’t get past the first few pages for all the mechanical errors. They had no problem with it, no fusses.

I think many of the reviewers are authors, because if you’re a reviewer, you can get your own work reviewed and featured, free.

I haven't written Firefly in a while. Let me do that. Prompt from [info]moirablue: there was sand on his pillow.

There were times, after a job, that Zoe would go up to the bunk she shared with Wash, and fall asleep in the first place she found. Wash knew that those were the bad jobs. It didn't matter why they were bad. They were bad, and Zoe was tired.

When he could, Wash asked someone else to fly Serenity for a little while, so he could go up to be with her. He had learned not to say anything after so many tries where he had gotten it wrong. He would just sit near her and stroke her hair.

After a while, a pattern became apparent, and it made Wash smile. Zoe had begun to sleep on his side of the bed after the bad jobs.

If the planet was particularly dry, or the job had been on a beach, there was sand left on his pillow when she moved over to her own side. Wash wouldn't say a word; he would just flip the pillow to the other side, wrap his arms around his girl, and let her rest.

Because, really, what was a little sand between two people?

Defaulting to Ace Attorney again. My main fandom, it will eat j00. And my OTP, it will eat j00. Phoenix/Edgeworth. No real prompt here? GS1-based rambling?

--

Phoenix Wright didn't think of Miles Edgeworth every day. It was only sometimes. A reference in the newspaper, a familiar-looking shadow, a child that looked like he had as a child - those brought the thoughts.

There had been periods of time when even those wouldn't do it. The time when he was dating Dahlia Hawthorne had been the longest stretch, by far.

It was a lot harder now that they were in closer contact. Phoenix couldn't ignore that. Even if Miles had changed, he still had the same spark in him now that he had as a child. It was obscured, but not extinguished.

If only we were closer. I could bring your spark back, Miles.

--

Miles Edgeworth hadn't thought of Phoenix Wright for years - until the day he had won his first case. And even that thought was fleeting.

That changed the day they faced each other in court for the first time. It had been different from every other time Miles had faced down a rookie defense attorney; there was an air about him that even the most experienced attorneys didn't have.

It brought up uncomfortable feelings. Miles had suppressed his desire to become a defense attorney, and couldn't help but wonder about it now. There was something else, too, something he couldn't put his finger on.

Wright, you're getting too close. It's frightening.

By popular demand - no, seriously -

See, BARCC is not the only charity we here at Gojirawitziev support. Elayna is particularly partial to Heifer International and the World Wildlife Federation. So for $WINTERHOLIDAY in 2005, she decided that, instead of lots of material-possessions-type-stuff she didn't want, she'd like people to buy a llama through Heifer International in her honor. To sweeten the deal, we said we'd sing the llama song when said llama was purchased.

[info]theferrett bought a llama within the hour. In fact, we got two and a half llamas.

So by popular demand, a rerun.

[info]chocomimi just IMed me, and this prompt is too good not to do right now: Ouran does Sailor Moon. XD

It was official: Renge was off the deep end. At least, that was the thought going through Hikaru and Kaoru's heads.

They still weren't sure how she had talked Tamaki into this idea, but he had agreed to it, and once Tamaki had an idea in his head, it wasn't leaving.

That was how the entire Host Club found themselves stuck in the uniforms of the Sailor Senshi - except for Tamaki himself. "I have to be the dashing romantic lead! No one else could be a better Tuxedo Kamen!"

And even the twins, who were now dressed as Minako and Rei, had to admit it was true. It didn't stop them from complaining loudly and vocally about the short skirts. "This is ridiculous, milord, even for you!"

The rest of the Host Club hadn't fared any better. Haruhi, despite long, loud complaints, was wearing Sailor Moon's signature hairdo, with the help of a wig. Honey was in Chibiusa's pink outfit. Kyouya had been placed in the role of Sailor Mercury, and Mori, being the tallest of them all, was Sailor Jupiter.

"Haruhi! You have to give the speech! And the rest of you! Say your signature lines. Be passionate! Be lively! Stand straight!" Renge was in full managerial mode now. Honey was actually fine with this, and there was no question as to how ready Tamaki was. He had a speech planned from the moment Renge had announced her plan.

And yet, it was Kyouya who broke the silence following Renge's speech. "Shiny Aqua Illusion!"

At that moment, the entire Host Club fell over.

So here's the sitch. [27 Jul 2008|02:59am]

shadesong
My brain is pretty much totally offline. To the point where nothing short of sleep will kick-start it.

...considering that this usually happens at 2pm, I have done pretty well.

So I pretty much had the choice of
a) continue to sleepwalk my way through half-assed storybits, or
b) just post whatever and write all of the remaining storybits after my nap.

And I chose b). Because the artists want good stuff to go with their pieces, and the buyers want good stuff to go with their purchases. And I think that's probably
more important than churning the storybits out on schedule regardless of quality.

And I think that, in future years, I need to
a) get more advance assistance on running Team Venture and
b) be more reasonable about my limitations. Not just body, but brain, as there is just no arguing with fibrofog.

And these writing challenges work for Wind Tunnel Dreams because I have the whole morning to think of what to write in response to one. Here, I have ten minutes. And when my brain gets like this, that's not enough.

So yeah. Frustrated. But I want you guys to get better from me than what I've been turning out.

Still staying up. Still leading Team Venture to victory! Just allowing myself to meander off the trail a bit.

More from the OOC chat: "how to burn a salad". I'm going with Ouran for this one, since it's been quite a while since the last one.

Tamaki Suoh had had another brainstorm. "Everyone! Let's do an American barbeque theme. We can make all the foods you would normally see at a picnic! And we can have fireworks at the end! It will be great."

Kyouya scribbled the plan down in his notebook. "Wouldn't it be easier to just order the food? There are catering services. The ones we normally use will do American food, Tamaki."

"Oh, we can order SOME of it. But it will mean so much to our clients to have food that we've made! Food made with love and care!"

"I'll take care of desserts," Honey piped up.

"Milord, we can set up a grill," Hikaru said, with a devious grin in his eyes. Mori normally stayed quiet, but this time had to speak up: "No. I will." The twins knew better than to protest.

"I'll do a big salad," Tamaki said. "Haruhi, you do one side dish, and Hikaru and Kaoru, you bring drinks. Kyouya, you organize the other food."

---

On the morning of the barbeque, Kyouya had arranged to borrow the cooking club's classrooms, so no one would need to worry about bringing items in. Haruhi arrived early, planning on making baked beans. She had a recipe, and by the time everyone else arrived, the beans were simmering on the back of the stove. Honey arrived next, and Haruhi was happy to help him get a cake in the oven. The twins came in right after, making punch and lemonade. Mori was outside, setting up the grill.

Tamaki arrived with a grin on his face. "Today is the big day! Let's get excited!"

He started pulling food out of the refrigerator. It came as a surprise to everyone when he didn't cut off a finger chopping carrots, cabbage, lettuce, or radishes. The Host Club members thought they could breathe a sigh of relief, until their president said, "And now we cook this..." He turned on the stove and set the plastic bowl he was using on top. "Tamaki, don't --"

The bowl began smoking, and so did the contents inside it. Next came the fire alarms, and the sprinkler system.

The next day, Kyouya added a rule: "Tamaki is not allowed to cook for Host Club events."

Post #36: Desktop & Docs [27 Jul 2008|02:27am]

bzzinglikeneon
Manda suggested I take a screencap of my Documents folder for a post, but my Documents folder is mostly empty. I keep the majority of my files on my external HD, which is then organized into many folders and sub-folders. It seemed kind of boring, so I'm including a cap of my current desktop, as well.

Survey of Sol 3: Glass [27 Jul 2008|02:27am]

[ music | 'song and Elayna - Llama Song ]

I step into a world of glass...

Every available window is hung with glass, colored or prismatic, abstract are in shapes of nature or artifice. Light fractures all over the tower, light splitting light, rainbows all over the walls. The glassmaker can make you anything here. She specializes in window hangings, but you may have a kaleidoscope or a prism, if you are very good. Do sit on the window seat here while we do a little business. Just a few lenses. It won't take long at all. Just lie back, dear, and watch the prism just over your head. See how the light moves? Just watch there, and this will all be over soon...

Survey of Sol 3: Thrice Again [27 Jul 2008|01:58am]

shadesong
I open the box and tip out a necklace - three strands of beads twined together.

I count out the beads precisely as I work. Magic has rules. Magic always has rules. It's the metal beads I've put the spells on, of course; the glass beads would have taken me years! No, the metal beads are enough. Old magic, like the kind once used on ships - tying up the wind in rope, unknotting it when needed. I've spent the last few months traveling every place I could think to find magic, tipping it into the little metal beads, and stringing them on.

So in theory, the whole necklace should have enough magic to take me back. It's not emeralds, but those are a bit pricier over here. This should be enough, these three - magic number, three - strands of glass and magic.

It will be done soon. Soon I will go back.

Triune necklace by aVivaSedai. Three individual necklaces of seed beads in blue and green with
funky eclectic spacer beads can be braided together or worn separately.
Between 18-19 inches long, each two-stranded necklace can add fun and
color to your outfits!

I have no idea where my sponsorships are at. I'll have a better idea tomorrow afternoon.
