| About: | Welcome to WORDS WEEKLY, a short story community seeking to expand the limits of writers with a new challenge every week. What happens: - Every Friday night at 8pm EST (GMT +10) a premise will be presented on the main community board as a challenge to the fellow writers of the community. - Each member participating will have the task of completing a 5000 word short story to be completed by the date of the next challenge issued. (Exactly one week.) - Stories are made in two posts due to LJ post restrictions. - A new challenge shall be presented by an established member of the community every week, the order of which is decided by the moderator. - If you have issued a challenge you must participate or else your turn is forfeit for that week. - Every member of the community gets at least one turn at presenting a challenge before another member gets a second turn. Application: - To participate you simply need join the community. - Once you have responded to four of the new challenges (over at least four weeks) you will then be classed as an established community member. Posting: - Challenges are conceived by members but presented by the moderator. If you have any questions on the nature of the challenge be sure to ask them in the thread the challenge was issued. - Stories should be posted on your personal LJ page and linked to the community with a summary as follows: Challenge: (The challenge off of which your story is based.) Author: (Plug yourself!) Date: (The date completed.) Story Title: (Obviously.) Rating: (Is it safe for the kiddies?) Summary: (If you like, summarize your story.) Link 1: (insert a link here to the first part of your story.) Link 2: (insert a link here to the second part of your story.) - Complements or criticisms can either be posted to the story or the community tag: it doesn't matter which. - Other acceptable posts include introductions, announcements or general literary discussion not involving your current story. - Challenges can only be officially made to the community by the moderator. These are supplied by established members, so be sure to contact the moderator privately with your challenge. Rules of Conduct: - Treat other community members courteously (as if this even need be stated.) - Be sure to compliment stories as much as you criticise them. As much as an author tells you they love constructive feedback they love genuine praise even more. - Authors, don't judge yourselves too harshly. Sometimes you write garbage, sometimes you write the mundane and trite, but the rest of the time you write gold. Forgive yourselves for occasionally being flawed. - Don't give out spoilers for your stories before the challenge deadline. They often influence the writings of others. - Also don't give out spoilers for upcoming challenges. Notes: - The challenges presented in this community are intended as an exercise in creativity. There is no pass/fail standard. - All stories remain the legal and intellectual properties of their respective authors and are only used in conjunction with Words Weekly with their permission. | ||
