QOD - June 24

It'll be a pretty healthy week finishing off the month. Here's my list:

Green Lantern: Tales Of The Sinestro Corps TPB - I enjoyed the Volume 1 TPB of the Sinestro Corps War and am working on Volume 2 now. I think seeing the various members spotlighted should be good too.

Wonder Woman #33 - I believe this wraps up the Rise of the Olympian arc, which has probably been Gail's best to date. I can't wait to see how it ends.

GI Joe #6 - Killer series. One of my favorites at the moment.

Disney Pixar's Incredibles: Family Matters #3 - I'm hoping my shop gets this in. Somehow they missed issue #2 so I'll have to track it down on my next trip to either Charlottesville or Winchester.

Zorro #14 - The wrap up of another arc. This one's been pretty good too.

Happy Comic-ing to all!!

QOD - June 17

It'll be a very slim week for me, although the price tage will be bigger than some of my normal weeks. Here's my list:

Green Lantern: Sinestro Corps War Vol. 2 TPB - I really enjoyed the volume 1 TPB, even though I'm not much versed in Green Lantern lore, and am really looking forward to this finale of the story.

Happy Comic-ing to all!!

QOD - June 10

And yet another slim week rears its head. I guess this is what happens when you drop the Bat-family of books from you pull list. Here's my skinny list:

Batman Confidential #30 - The first part of this 2-parter was pretty good. I'm hoping the bad guy doesn't somehow get killed and can return at a future date. Batman in in need of some new villain blood.

Storming Paradise #6 - The final issue of a really good alternate reality story. If you dig alternate history/what if?-type stories do yourself a favor and get the TPB of this when it comes out.

Happy Comic-ing to all!!

QOD - June 3

It'll be a slim week to start off the new month. Here's my list:

Jonah Hex #44 - The beginning of a rare 6 part story-arc, which from everything I've seen should be a really good one.

Secret Six #10 - The first installment in a new arc. This is an always awesome series and I can't wait for the new arc.

Happy Comic-ing to all!!

QOD - May 28 (Holiday Edition)

A big reminder to the U.S. readers that new books will be available on Thursday this week due to the Memorial Day holiday on Monday. Now, on with the regular programming ...

This'll be a slim week for me. Here's my list:

Trinity #52 - Yeah, it's finally over! This series has put me off of weekly comics for the foreseeable future, especially ones designed to run a year. This story could've been much shorter, and it probably would've flowed better.

Wonder Woman #32 - I've been enjoying this arc more than any other during Gail's run. One thing I am curious about, though, is why the Greek gods are running around in superhero spandex suits instead of the traditional toga look.

Happy Comic-ing to all!!

3 for 2 at Waterstones...

Woo hoo.  I went on a trip down to Lancaster today and the branches of Waterstones down there had 3 for 2 offers scattered about all of their books.

I found a hard back copy of Scarlet Traces a steampunk gothic victorian adventure by Ian Edginton and D'Israeli for £10, A Brian Clough (A legendary soccer manager) biography for £9 a copy of God Save the Queen by Mike Carey and John Bolton for my freebie worth £8.  The Star Trek Countdown movie prequel comic book £3 off for £7 and the final part of Crossing Midnight by Mike Carey, Jim Fern and Jose Villarrubia for £10.

£45 worth of graphic novels thrown in with a bio that I have wanted to read for a long while for £35.

Result.

Gotham Girls - Tschotschke!!!

Debenhams own label brand are copying TopShop and leaping on the DCU bandwagon ...

I now own a dark grey marl Gotham Girls Tshirt ... SO COOL - will try to find a link

They appear to have left off the lesser known Montoya (sob!) but Catwoman, Batgirl, Ivy and Harley are all there in animated Batman style- in retro-vintage look.

colours are in shades of grey/red//purple green - slightly punk looking

QOD - May 20

I'll be having a pretty sizable week. Here's my list:

Booster Gold: 52 Pick-Up TPB - I didn't follow this version of Booster in 52, but I've heard good things about this series so I thought I'd give it a shot. Plus, I'm a sucker for time travel stories.

Trinity #51 - Only one more issue to go after this one!

GI Joe #5 - I've been enojying the heck out of Chuck Dixon's run so far.

Femme Noir: Dark City Diaries TPB - This is another one I've been waiting on. My shop didn't get the singles for the mini, but I caught them in time so they could order the TPB for me. I liked the Femme Noir story I read in last year's FCBD offering from Ape and think this mini will be just as good.

Disney Pixar's Incredibles: Family Matters #2 - The first issue was just as fun as the movie and I'm looking forward to issue #2.

Happy Comic-ing to all!!

QOD - May 13

After a couple slim weeks I'm finally getting one with a pile of stuff. Here's my list:

Batman Confidential #29 - This is the first part of a 2 part follow-up to the Joker story arc before last. I enjoyed seeing Scott McDaniel's artwork on that arc and will enjoy seeing it again here.

Oracle #3 - This is the big one. Will Babs become Batgirl again at the end? At this point I don't know. I know Didio seems to want that, but there's a seeming majority of fans that like her as Oracle better. Will that affect Didio's decision? I guess we'll see. Personally, I think Babs is a hundred times more interesting as Oracle than Batgirl, especially now that she's more a Bat-WOMAN than a Bat-GIRL.

Secret Six #9 - A winning comic all the way around. This time it looks like Catman and Bane both want in the Battle for the Cowl. That should prove interesting.

Trinity #50 - It's thankfully winding down.

Storming Paradise #5 - This alternate WWII mini about a U.S. ground invasion of Japan finally returns after a hiatus due to some unforeseen issues on Butch's end. It has been a gripping story so far and I cna't wait for it to continue.

Zorro #13 - If this isn't the final issue of the current arc then it's the penultimate one. It's been a pretty decent arc so far.

Happy Comic-ing to all!!

QOD - May 6

The new month is starting off slim for me. Here's my list:

Jonah Hex #43 - A "done-in-one" about Jonah trying to rescue some hostages and featuring art by Paul Gulacy. I'm not sure how well his style will mesh with Jonah, but we'll see.

Trinity #49 - The final month of issues begins. I'm hoping this story can go out on a bang instead of a wimper like the last several issues have been.

Happy Comic-ing to all!!

Picoult interview ...

Jodie Picoult is on today's Saturday Live on Radio 4 - if you visit the website it will go up as a 'Listen Again' (think you have to be a UK user?)

She did talk briefly about writing Wonder Woman ...

QOD - April 29

My week looks to be pretty hefty week price-wise, but about average quantity-wise. Here's my list:

Green Lantern: Sinestro Corps War Vol 1 TPB - I've heard so much good about this arc that I can't wait to finally read it. I'm also glad to see DC shave off a few months from their Hardcover to TPB timetable. Hopefully they'll keep it up.

Trinity #48 - The end grows closer. Finally.

Wonder Woman #31 - This arc continues to improve.

Airboy 1942: Best Of Enemies - A one-shot featuring Chuck Dixon returning to a franchise he rocked on in the late 80's. His Airboy work from Eclipse is what got him the Robin gig all those years ago so I know his return to Airboy (although it'll be the 40's version rather than the one he created based on it) will be an awesome read.

QOD - April 22

Things are shaping up to be a pretty big week. Here's my list:

Ghost Omnibus Vol. 2 TPB - I haven't finished the volume 1 TPB yet, but I've enjoyed what I've read so far. I wonder if this TPB will finish off the collection or if there will be a volume 3 later this year.

Detective Comics #853 - The first part was pretty blah. My opinion of Gaiman's writing is still not very high. Here's hoping something happens in this issue to turn around the arc.

Trinity #47 - Right now I'm just along for the ride to see how it finishes. After this experience I'm not inclined to sign up for any other year-long weekly series.

War That Time Forgot #12 - This has been a pretty entertaining maxi-series. At this point despite some flaws here and there Bruce Jones's writing isn't as horrible as most everyone has described it on various message boards.

Buck Rogers #0 - Since this one is only 25 cents I think I'm going to get it. I enjoy Scott Beatty's writing and this should be an indicator as to whether or not I'll be getting the eventual TPB's of the series.

Nancy Drew: Night Of The Living Chatchke GN - For Michele and Gracie.

Happy Comic-ing to all!!

Looking Around at the Batverse .. (v' short - sorry!)

OK - so there's a big Shake up in the Bat books

starting with the cancellations we all know about:

http://www.newsarama.com/comics/110804-GothamCancellations.html

Now - I buy very few pamphlets now but ... let's go to the new list of books:

(I have to be honest - I don't usually buy Batman titles unless one of the Gotham Girls is featured strongly)

Batman - Judd Winnick and Tony Daniel. - ummmm ....

Batman and Robin - Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely - Frank does a really good Batman, I like Grant

Batman: Streets of Gotham - Paul Dini and Dustin Nguyen. - hopeful combo ....

Detective Comics - Greg Rucka and J.H. Williams III. - and Batwoman ... I *love* JH Williams, and Greg Rucka - I might actually be tempted .... I'll order one issue

Red Robin - Chris Yost and Ramon Bachs. - won't be buying

Gotham Sirens - Paul Dini and Guillem March. - Harley, Ivy and Catwoman - hello!!!! (And Paul Dini!!!!!!) I'm going to order two issues and see what I think

Outsiders - Peter Tomasi and Lee Garbett. - probably won't be getting ...

Batgirl - does anyone know which Batgirl it is? please set my mind at rest either way - is Oracle still Oracle in any shape or form after her mini?

I'm not sure about Green Arrow - might wait and look at it in the shop or buy TPs

And just as a final treat - have you all found these on Newsarama:

http://www.newsarama.com/common/media/video/player.php?aid=27354

especially for you old-style uniform Helena fans and those Blue Beetle fans ...

QOD - April 15

This year we get some relief on tax day (in the U.S.) by picking up our comics either before or after swinging by the post office to drop off the return. Here's what I'll be getting:

Oracle #2 - I didn't hate the first issue as much as I thought I would. I still think the Anti-Life Equation doesn't really fit a grounded, semi-realistic character like Oracle, but so far it's working somewhat. While the artwork has its cheescake-y moments it's been pretty good overall, at least on par with Nicola Scott's work on BOP. I'm looking forward to this issue.

Trinity #46 - I'm just riding it out until the end now. It's definitely not finishing as strongly as it started.

Zorro #12 - It's been a good arc so far.

Happy Comic-ing to all!!

QOD - April 8

It's going to be a pretty slim week for me. Here's my list:

Secret Six #8 - The first arc was awesome and I'm looking forward to seeing what Gail and Nicola have in store for us this time.

Trinity #45 - As I've stated before I'm getting bored with what's been happening lately. I just want to see the Trinity back to normal going after the Dark Arcana who are also back to normal.

Happy Comic-ing to all!!

Update On The Black Canary Co-Feature

Instead of putting this as a comment in the initial post I did I thought it best to do it as a separate entry. We now know what book Black Canary will be co-featuring in. According to the this week's Didio Page (the last page of all DCU comics where Dan Didio spouts off about something relating to the line each week) Black Canary will begin her co-feature run in Green Arrow #22. And since there's no current solo Green Arrow book I can only guess that means they're dropping her credit from Green Arrow/Black Canary and turning it into a mainly GA series. No creative team was announced.

After something I read at Blog@Newsarama eariler this week I wonder if they're going to split up. One contributor there posted an entry about domestic abuse concerning BC punching out GA in the latest issue of JLofA and how it hasn't garnered near the press coverage as it would've had the roles been reversed. I can't really comment on that because I haven't read the issue, but supposedly the problem comes from GA joining up with a new Justice League Green Lantern is starting (the mini featuring said team won't be out until July - yeah, I know, stupid timing on DC's part) and Canary not liking it at all. Maybe that's what causes the split. But that's just speculation on my part. As I said, I don't know about the situation in JLofA to comment with authority. Does anyone else?

Guys - I'll be joining Corrina as a writer of ... stuff for Sequential Tart (if only so I stop saying to my husband 'why do they never cover European comics' and to give myself an excuse to buy lots of B-D from Castelmann and the like and discover all those writers like Pat Mills who have a second comics career in another language ...) (helped by translators?)

So ... I am sort of at the filling in paperwork stage ... (I have to invent an email address ... I haven't had to do that for ages ... don't they realise they're making me make aesthetic decisions here?!?!?)

but I did once think of doing an article on how artists dressed the birds (like Babs only owning one, green Tshirt and some gym clothes for quite a long run of the comic) so I may do a call out for assistance with images.

Black Canary To Join Back-Up Roster

http://robot6.comicbookresources.com/2009/03/add-black-canary-captain-atom-to-dcs-co-feature-roster/

It looks like Black Canary will be joining the ranks of characters that DC is giving back-up features to since their former on-going series didn't pan out so well (Blue Beetle and Manhunter are amongst the group). I don't know why Black Canary is getting this treatment given she supposedly has a series in Green Arrow/Black Canary. Maybe DC is going to revert the series to a solo Green Arrow book and is going to put Black Canary as a back-up in a story that doesn't pertain to the lead one.
