I found out today that the person who took Callie's last littermate home "had to give her away, because she bit someone" and I've been surprised and sad ever since. Apparently, she was an "outside" dog who they "hadn't worked with much". She isn't even a year old! I'm having a harder time with this than is any of my business, so I'll let go of it eventually. Probably. Maybe.
Just now, though, I'm remembering Callie's baby-ness. She was so fat! And so little! And so mournful. And her cheeks did this hanging thing that made me laugh! I need to get s'more pictures of her. I love her more than I love you :P bloolark, I just remembered this: you were right. According to the vet, Callie is currently "about" 5-7 lbs overweight! He didn't seem to think it was that big of a deal, but I do. Now, I only feed her twice a week :P

That's from when she was still Tethered To Me in the house because She Could Not Be Trusted.

This one is from I Am Stubborn And Will Not Learn To Sit Properly. Goofy dog :)
Picante is evil. I can no longer deal with his evilness. Here is a recent picture of Birdzilla:

He was delicious :) ___________________________________

1:21a over 20 boxes packed today.
"People in this world look at things mistakenly and think that what they do not understand must be the void. This is not the true void. It is bewilderment."
This seems oddly appropriate for moving.

9:38p update in point form
I just came off a 6-day week and I'm exhausted. The new job is challenging and interesting. Holy crap is there a lot to keep track of.
I watched a group of south Asian men playing cricket in the parking lot next to the workplace this morning while I was buying my coffee. Including lots of loud, hand-waving, good-natured debate in their own language. This made me very happy.
The snail experiment took place last night, and was a success. Also fun. Thanks to 50_ft_queenie for the cooking assistance. (Damn, those little fuckers are hard to get out of the shell.) And as the_axel pointed out, this is the first meal we've had yet that included anything harvested from our vegetable garden.
There is a house that I walk past every morning on the way to the bus stop that is visibly tipping over. Yesterday the front wall actually separated from the roof and started sliding downward. I look forward to passing it every morning.
Tomorrow I start packing for the roadtrip.

9:48p we get sunburnt when we exercise the right to bare our arms
Do I carry some sort of portable optical illusion that makes me look tiny? Because it's not just the hostel's pixie bike - the canoe place gave me a pixie kayak whose rudder pedals were about at my knees. ( Ahoy, me hearties. )
A sample of my thought processes for the first hour or so ( short version: bears bad, river pretty: )
Etc. My mother would be glad to know I've taken her warnings to heart. (Though very not-glad to know that I went kayaking for three hours myself.) But then I calmed down and enjoyed myself, just me and the trees and the water, and it's very nice to be able to sit down and do nothing and still make progress. The only bit where I had to exert myself was the last 200m up the Takhini River to the bridge. Oh, Yukon, you so pretty.
And tonight I was talking to a chiropractor from Edmonton, and the subject of bears led (via ReGen, which he hadn't even heard of, ?!) to Due South. Which he admitted, once I'd done the polite version of flailing suitable for unfannish company, that he used to watch all the time and had DVDs of. Bless.

9:02p Taking care of
I just made THE MOST AMAZING DINNER. Here's why: to spoil myself. Because no one else would. Yes. I worked 9 hours and 45 minutes today when I was expecting to work 8 and then I needed to be pampered. So I made myself this amazing meal:
-flax bread meets walnut pesto and hummus + tomato, avocado, balsamic vinegar and pepper. -organic broccoli meets curry powder (childhood comfort food x 10) -chocolate pudding (vegan, obviously)
SO DAMN GOOD.
Now I must listen to music from cool people and do art.
