Usually I'm in bed by now, because I'm an old old woman, but tonight the people from the luxury condo building behind mine are having a party. I can look down from my bedroom window onto the garden rooftop of their private parking garage, where they're holding it. It seems they've entered Phase Two of the party - Phase One was held earlier in the evening, when all the parents and couples in their thirties and forties chatted away over soft drinks and hamburgers. Phase Two, naturally, is the phase involving the much younger set, running around like teenagers who just found the key to their parent's liquor cabinet. Right now there seems to be some kind of Raiders of the Lost Ark-style drinking contest in progress, between a rather large and exuberant young woman and a slender, model-handsome man: they're faced off at opposite ends of a table, with row after row of shots alternating with giant plastic cups of beer. I predict the woman will drink that poor bastard into oblivion. Tomorrow morning, I shall look out my window and probably see his body curled up in a corner, covered in the contents of his stomach, and a little shame.

Time to put in the earplugs and plug the headphones into my sound machine. They're not making that much noise, but I really don't want to be listening when Mr. Pukey comes a-visiting. And something tells me that's going to be fairly soon...

thematryoshka @ 11:04pm: "Here I Am With My Hand"

--Mini Road Trip to the Bluff with Dietz and her Papa today. Through Piggott, we rolled over their baby hills & listened to the perfect road trip music: The Boss’s Thunder Road (one of the most fucking perfect songs to ever exist), Tom Petty, “Free Ride”, oh man. Big slushy lusty margaritas at Maya’s, and then perusing the Wine Rack and daydreaming about champagnes that we couldn’t afford. I got two mini Sofias on sale though. After that, we went hunting around a local health food store, and I got some more Kirk’s castile, crystallized ginger chews, & some more different bars of soap. On the way home, we stopped off and got peaches, tomatoes, and then to Mr. T’s where I purchased the following: Hitachino Nest White Ale, Young’s Double Chocolate Stout (my bio dad recommended it to me), a bottle of fairly cheap sangria & Asti Spumante. All in all a superb time, and Nikki and I have reconciled (albeit somewhat happily) to becoming hetero life partners and living on a farm (so I can have my chickens & she can have her Alpaca).

--In other news, someone wise told me tonight, “Don’t shit where you eat,” and for fuck’s sakes, never has it proven truer than tonight.

horseskin @ 7:47pm: Abstink

As I dredged my way through the world of Absinthe, I started just before a ton of reviews and information
about traditional absinthe came easily accessable, I bought a lot of drink to try and wound up with some not so great in my collection, I also ended up with some amazing drink in my collection too.

The most amazing I have is designed (if you will) by Ted Breaux, the brand is Jade. Ted is a chemist and
opened up some preban bottles and figured it all out, and really really upped the bar. Now he has created a shadow of an absinthe, although made correctly in a traditional manner, it's made weakly (still better than where I started - I new enough not to by Czech "absynth(e)" but still I did try La Fee when it came out...
I am speaking of Lucid. So a decent place to start. What I hate about it is it's design and marketing.
It's marketed to common American party drinkers aka douche bags and frat dudes. Now we are going to get college mooks drunk on absinthe and crashing and killing and blaming the absinthe. Also the bar within walking distance
of MY house in Bremerton serves Lucid, further prooving my point. (the girl that tends the bar is a COMPLETE douche - She'll Louche you so hard!)

But there is a very highly praised Absinthe being made in the US, California in fact. St. George
http://www.drinkhacker.com/2008/06/23/review-st-george-absinthe/ It recieves around a 4 - 4.5 out of 5 on most reviews. It has a gorgeous label and bottle. It is unique as well, although tradditional in cronstruction it has many more herbs than traditional.

St. George Spirits Absinthe Verte is made with fine brandy, star anise, mint, wormwood, lemon balm, hyssop, meadowsweet, basil, fennel, tarragon and stinging nettles. This infamous liquor reveals seductive flavors of anise complimented with sweet grassy tones, light citrus, white pepper, and light menthol notes.

Sounds interesting! Someone send me a bottle!

Are those cheek implants?? Maybe hers were so naturally sunken from the lack of eating anything that she had to get fake ones installed.
And her arms/hands are incredibly janky. Those are the stuff nightmares are made of. Imagine at night that those hands are slowly coming towards you to tuck you in....and then her creepy cheeky face looms in the moonlight and she whispers, "Nighty niiiiiiiiiight" (*sing-song voice*)...and one of her skeletal hands reaches up to her dingy head of hair...and she plucks a wad out...and she cuts her eyes at you as she twists them together into a dread....and sloooooowly reaches to place it next to your head...and you can smell the sweat and kabalalbaalaalalaaa incense all over it...and her bones creak as she slips into the shadows..........

la_sherazade @ 4:39pm: Lately, I've been thinking that the people at Weather.com must be doing drugs. Or taking the Berkeley temperature out on the Bay, where there is a cool breeze. It's supposedly 72 here today, but people with pale legs are wearing shorts and some are sunning themselves. Google tells me it's closer to 78, which I half-believe. It feels like 85 to me, but then, I am wearing all black. Yes, I know, that's still a fantabulous temp for this time of year, but tell that to the woman dragging a trolley full of laundry up the hill (me).
androidlusts @ 6:47pm: Knitting and sewing
Yes I know I have 4 projects that still need to be finished . You read that right 4 ... But the new issue of knitty has a few patterns I wouldn't mind adding to my pile.

First
http://knitty.com/ISSUEsummer08/PATTseatangles.html I want this. I want this so much it's kinda sad. Granted i'd probably never wear it, but it's like the perfect fairy tale sweater.

second
http://knitty.com/ISSUEsummer08/PATTtankgirl.html Oo a cute tank top

third
http://knitty.com/ISSUEsummer08/KSPATTeloping.html I'd turn it into a cuff not a garter.

Also durham Tech has a sewing class . It's 59$ and is couple hours every tuesday for I want say five weeks. I'm going to sign up for it. Why? It's be nice to really know what stitch length for what..needle size and just to have some general knowledge . Any one in Durham want to do it with me ? One of these days I will make my own corset.
talheres @ 3:41pm: The point that I have been making all along in the issue that was being discussed during the period of the BJP government about NCERT (National Council of Educational Research and Training) textbooks is the difference between textbooks and research. Textbooks are never at the cutting edge of knowledge because the main purpose of a textbook is to encapsulate the mainstream of accepted knowledge. Those on the frontiers of knowledge, propounding new theories, do not include these in textbooks. Maybe some years from now, when this knowledge becomes part of the mainstream knowledge, it will become part of textbooks.

But many who took part in this debate during the last five years were unfamiliar with the kind of historical research that was being carried out because they didn’t read the books we were writing. They were commenting on us as historians on the basis of what they read in the textbooks, if at all they read the textbooks.

So the attack on me was because I had talked about the eating of beef in the Vedic period in a Class VI textbook. This has been an established fact in historical research for many decades and therefore has found its way into a textbook. And the people who were vilifying me as a historian were people who had certainly not read my other books on history.

marstokyo @ 4:03pm: Why Me?
Someone named [info]sexgirl83 friended me. Why?

Isn't this some kind of spamming scam? Could this be for real? Should I report it to LJ? I don't want her to friend me. Ewwwwwwwwww-- she's a 22yr old BIMBO. I have nothing in common with 22yr old BIMBOS, having never been one myself.

I don't even want to message her and ask her to not friend me because if it is a spamming scheme it might end up putting me on more stuff like this.

How the hell did she see my LJ? We have no friends in common even. And no one has friended her back.

I've spent the past several days concentrating on another dread wig. This one is much more tame and full of actual dreads than the last one, and I'm getting rather bored with it. I've set aside tomorrow to work on my own dread extensions and take a break from the wig. I should be able to get the rest of them done tomorrow, and least to the point of tying them up in the pillowcase so they can be thrown in the washer the next day. I've gotten about a third of them done already and then ran out of fibre and had to order more. It's going to feel good to have hair of some length again so I can pull it back and have my beloved pony tail type thingy again. I don't care that I'm "too old" for a ponytail. It'll be "dreads" and therefore it will be cool. Underneath all the fake dreads and the yarn wraps my own little baby dreads will still be there, only the horrible bleached parts will be hidden.

Brown's in Wales again working at Hogan's house. This time the major project seems to be one of the bathrooms. They're putting in new pipes and a shower enclosure around the tub. I've been playing with hair and he's been playing with plumbing.

It's almost time to close up the doors and go upstairs for a shower. It's been fairly warm in the house today, and that's very unusual. I very rarely walk around in without a sweater on in here. I think I'll have a pot of nettle/peppermint tea after my shower and watch a download or two, then go off to bed fairly early. It's a rough life.

...Let my typical Windy dumbness be to your advantage!

There are things that, despite my celebrating my birthday as a Leo, fully define me as Aquarian. To say I'm an Airhead is not too far from the mark.

One of the things I've begun doing this past year is Making Tea for Ezekiel. I love tea; I always have, and I've tried to emphasize enjoying it MORE than just on weekends. Mornings where I don't have to burst out the door to work usually find me relishing several large "gardener's cups" full o' the black leaf.

On weeknights, there isn't that sense of relaxation. That is when Ezekiel gets his tea.

Based upon the idea that at the Passover feast there is always a cup of wine sitting, waiting for Ezekiel to arrive and join in with the family in observance, I began calling those large cups or mugs or pots of tea that were brewed for sometimes several hours as "Making Tea for Ezekiel". I would go in, WAIT for the water to come close to boiling (but NEVER boiling, because who wants boiled water in their tea?!?), pour in the water over the tea waiting in a bag, a tea spoon, or a pot...and then leave it. Compleately. Forgetting I'd meant to have tea, I'd wander off and do something elase, totally forgetting I was making tea.

Hence, Making Tea for Ezekiel, the One coming to 'join in' that never arrives to drink the forever-steeping tea. Pathetic, I know, and it's more than a bit annoying to discover I've done it YET AGAIN! I do my best to try to hang around the kitchen while the tea's brewing, but I have so many THINGS I want to do that I often wander off and never go back to it until as late as the next day. Truly pathetic.

Anyway, another thing I tend to do is to 'flashbomb purchase' tons of books whenever I go to Half Price Books, since I don't get out in those directions all that often. There are no good bookstores anywhere near where I live or work, and all the HPBs in my city are just about as far in three of the four cardinal compass points as they can be from the centre of town and yet still being considered to be 'in town', requiring quite a drive to get there. I can be counted upon to denude most of the sections on Medieval and Celtic histories, Arthurian studies, Faery and Mythic subjects, Archaeology, and in the past year, Aromatherapy.

The past two weeks I've gone to TWO different HPBs, and since there wasn't enough time to actually READ the first pile of books before I grabbed the second, I ended up with a duplicate: Marion Wayman's "Aromatherapy Treatments".

If one of you wants this book, speak up. First come, first grabs. It seems very good, very comprehensive yet also erring on the side of caution (always good with potentially toxic materials when someone doesn't use precautions). It's brand new, other than the stupid fact I jotted my name in the front before realising I now have TWO of them. *smacks forehead*

On a totally 'nother subject: HELLBOY 2 OMG! Great movie! While I had a heads-up that the Fae were speaking in Old Irish and that they were using King Balor and his 'son' [grandson] Nuada of the Silver Hand in this movie, they don't strictly adhere to the Celtic myths. Nuada has no Silver Hand, for example, and he and his twin sister Nuala both look like the Wraith [Stargate Atlantis] version of Michael Moorcock's white-faced, white-haired Elven Warrior. STILL! Totally fun, and I loved the Flame effects on the gal-pal of Hellboy. That's how I imagine my Flame Elf. Double points for their having the 'four fighters' at the last quarter representing the Four Elements.

I'm off--Celtic band playing over at Bookmama's and then I'm writing for the evening.

Love you,

Nechtan ;)

zagzagael @ 10:05am: No electricity or telephone all day long yesterday. Blergh. And still no phone today - at least we got the juice back last night right around 8:30. And friends came over to assuage boredom. During the afternoon, instead of surfin' the net or cleaning, I read "Kavalier and Clay" for the Literati and took pictures for [info]vita_ersatz and tried to capture my boy as Ballet Dancer, too. These are the shoes I bought from Joyce Nicholson at Dollectable. They fit like a glove! I want more! But I think I'll suggest to her and Kim that they change the lacing to be thicker or a crosspieced of elastic. These shoes are for MALE dancers...
