primaldog @ 7:06pm: New specimens, curiosities, and artwork
I added a whole lot of new items, so please feel free to take a look. Skulls, bones, specimen and totem bottles, trade beads and antiquities, and other fun stuff. A little bit natural history museum, a little bit curio cabinet. I have other stuff I haven't even listed yet, and I can do customs of various things, too. Thanks for looking!

drumlogic @ 10:02am: Labels
Does anyone here happen to know somewhere that I can get vintage looking labels that I might could print on myself? I want to label some jars and test tubes of various sizes and I don't really know where to start. If you guys know of anything please shoot me a link on here with a comment. I just got back from a trip and hope to be posting some pictures of my new finds soon. Thanks

primaldog @ 5:31pm: The Relic Hound Re-Opened
I have artwork, plus lots of relics, and other oddments good for inclusion in a curio or related. My store has finally been reopened after I've returned from a month-long stint in Germany. I still have lots of things I haven't listed yet, and other crafts I've yet to complete and list. Currently I'm looking to raise money to help pay for my absurdly expensive medication that I need, and to pay off my credit card bill which is a touch high after having been overseas (damnable exchange rates!). Of course, a portion of proceeds from any sale including animal materials will go to wildlife nonprofits. Thanks very much for looking!

lawnornaments @ 1:53pm:
I wore a pair of these to Burning Man and Love Fest and finally have preserved enough to try to sell a couple of pairs. Thought I'd share them on here! I'm selling them on my etsy page jackaltails.etsy.com hopefully for halloween costumes! Also, the usual disclaimer since this is an animal product, the turkeys in my area have no natural predators and as a result have overpopulated the national park and pick up acorns and hurt the oak population. They are a harm on the local environment and all of the wings I use are from wild turkeys whose wings would be otherwise discarded. (I do not hunt these animals or catch/kill them myself.)

simplesue @ 10:55pm: Paris
One night a few days ago, while on vacation I was walking around Paris, and was excited to discover this intriguing shop, "Cabinet de Curiosit'es.com" near our hotel. The next morning I went back hoping to buy something interesting to bring home, but discovered it was not a shop, but instead a display window in front of a dentist's office. A patient in his office, who spoke English, told me the dentist is an expert on Natural History, and that I could speak with him shortly. I would have loved to have talked with him, about his collection, but felt shy and didn't want to bother him, so I thanked her and went on my way. I shot these photos through the wire covering the slightly dirty glass windows, so the photo quality is a little rough. My camera battery was almost dead, or I would have taken more photos. His website seems to be a work in progress and not yet finished, but you can see it here at http://www.cabinetdecuriosites.com/I'm hoping eventually to see more of his collection there one day when the website is finished.

jilder @ 2:08am: The Cabinet that Goes With You
My friend Matt is covered in medical tattoos. He’s got stethoscopes on his thigh, an otoscope on his calf, and an x-ray pelvis. He is whole-heartedly in love with medical paraphernalia design and has committed his body to looking like a weird, amazing medical cabinet, ready and stocked for any emergency.
Matt has a love of medical devices, from the contemorary to the classical, and has tattoos of a stethoscope, reflex hammer, otoscope, sphygmomanometer, forceps, a bone saw, oxygen mask, latex gloves, surgical string, skin grafting razor, trephine skull drill, a medical warning label, and a syringe. Many of which are in his own private collection. What a way to honour your artifacts!

paperflower86 @ 3:46pm: Skeletons and jars...
Since I got such positive feedback last time I posted my natural history related sketches here, I though I'd show some new stuff I did this weekend, drawn on location at the zoologic collection of the city of Hamburg (and later primped up a bit in Photoshop ^^)Enjoy. ( Click for sketches )

modastrid @ 9:00pm: Aside from the smaller bits that are going in my cabinet..
I scored some large taxidermy at a local Antique store this weeK: I scored this lovely pre 1930s Taxidermy Pheasant! They guess he was from the early 1900s. He was an antique when the family bought him 40 years back. He'd been well loved by the family I bought it from for ages. Though a little dusty! Under the dust he had some dazzling feathers. In direct sunlight he's stunning. I haven't settled on his name yet. my other score: ( Suzabella )

primaldog @ 5:57pm: The Relic Hound
The Relic HoundI've been fascinated with the natural world and natural history ever since I was a small child, and would beg my parents to take me to the Smithsonian's Museum of Natural History. Eventually over the years I ended up growing my own natural history museum, and creating art inspired from such. The Relic Hound is the beginning fruits of my labor, and I've found the process a good way of connecting with others of like-mind. I've found this community to house some pretty fascinating stuff, although I've only ever lurked so far. The Relic Hound houses everything from specimens for one's curio, to pagan or animistic items, antiques and other relics, and random other neat stuff. I love working with really, really old things. I'm also just starting out, so bear with me. I have a lot of stuff I haven't yet listed, and I'm still updating the photos on some (my digital camera is out of commission and I'm having to borrow one, or use my iPhone, to take photos). Right now I'm trying to pay off medical bills and related debt before leaving the country in September for a month, so please consider having a look inside. Also, portions of proceeds from any purchase of animal materials gets donated to wildlife charities. Thanks for looking, and I look forward to participating more here, even if it's just an odd comment here and there.

modastrid @ 8:48pm: Looking for some more exotic/antique pieces for my Curiosity cabinet
I'm working on making my own "Victorian Curiosity Cabinet". I have a rather large collection of jaw bones and N American specimens that belonged to relatives, or I collected myself as a child. I've always been obsessed with Natural History. I had a full blown nature center in my bedroom as a kid. I even learned to taxidermy a deer hide and a squirrel in 8th grade. :) But to really make my Cabinet something to gawk over I need some exotic and vintage pieces. I'm completely inspired by this particular cabinet: http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?lis ting_id=24380972 She's amazing! The only Victorian piece I have is a Victorian Bird of Paradise that I found for $1.99 at my local thrift store. It's just the head and the entire tail- most likely from an old hat. I also have some peacock and flamingo feathers I collected as a kid to add some color. I know a lot of you work with bones/fur so I knew this was the place to ask. Where can I find dirt cheap taxidermy?! (birds, exotic, eggs, feathers, zebra feet.. you name it)
