[Current Music |aiko - soredake]

I wanted to give you guys an update on the game:

  • We're still set to open June 15, 2005.
  • Randal is about 97% done with space code.
  • New Systems: Space (of course), OOC Request System, Communications Network (IC), CharGen (d20 Modern-based).
  • Q&A session will be scheduled in the near future to discuss changes (ala the ol' fireside chats every week in the lounge).
  • There will be a 'preview' weekend for WNO2 in late May, as well as a jobs board for players interested in taking on IC and OOC duties to help with the game's daily maintenance.

Also, if you have questions or concerns, you can comment here and I'll respond. Thanks for your patience.

Would you all play it? Pros and cons of moving multi-player internet role-play to the graphical realm?

    5 years and 5 months... [Mar. 28th, 2004|11:06 am]

    jetblack
    [Current Mood | accomplished]

On April 25, 2004, Where No One Has Gone Before will no longer be a role-play environment. Since the core was first started on November 25, 1998, WNOHGB has played host to over two thousand different characters and over thirty different administrators. Out of the wizard staff, only Bowman and I are part of the original contingent. Out of the royals, only Templar is part of the original contingent. It kind of makes you wonder about the kind of people who're suited to settling in and lending a hand to putting the game together and then keeping it together for all time. In the spirit of the last 30 days of the game, and in anticipation of WNO2 at the beginning of next year, I thought I would spend some time in talking about the genesis of this game, and the creation of the next one.

I would love to read others' stories, anecdotes, or other parables about WNO that we can all share. Shortly after this message is posted, I'm going to amend our alt policy a little bit. With only 30 days left, it seems a little silly that we should be so rigid about a policy that will have little impact. Plus, I think we have a pretty good idea of who is whom. If you've been holding back because of that policy, then feel free to ignore it. :)

I thought it'd be a cool idea to start a discussion of Cochrane's announcement for WNO2 and the end of the game as we know it here on Livejournal. So, here's your place to discuss. ;)

I think it's a cool idea, and though I hate to give up my characters, like Trex who I've built up for a long time, perhaps it will help to revitalize some aspects of the game. :)

The Results of the Red & Black Banquet [Apr. 27th, 2003|05:54 pm]

    [Current Mood | ecstatic]

Last night, in the first few hours of Deep Space Nine's opening celebration, the many members of Starfleet hunkered down at Morn's to try and role-play with one another in one room. At one point, there were thirty-three people in that room, and watching from a distance, I was absolutely amazed that anyone could role-play in an almost chaotic fashion, but it looks as though everyone had a good time OOCly. The name of the game is role-play, so I was very happy to see it all coming together.

For those of you who missed it, and by the points of some ears, I'm pretty you missed at least half of it... here's the list of awards conveyed at the banquet, in order of precedence:

Please note that the above information is IC, and should be treated accordingly. Thanks!

I don't know what it is the last few weeks, but I have been in the mood for dark roleplay. Angst, fear, stress, contempt.. Not just the simple stuff, but the really dark and heavy stuff you can't escape. Even a simple TP would suffice. But the OS is silent, Intel is too good at hiding out in their secret bat caves and no one pirates anymore. That and Starfleet is full of goodie two-shoes.

If it wasn't for my IC responsibilities at the Academy, I'd honestly and seriously ask if anyone would mind kidnapping R'hli. :)

What do you guys think of the "dark" level of WNO lately?

On recent rumors and gossip... [Mar. 11th, 2003|08:05 pm]

    jetblack
    [Current Mood | annoyed]

There's been a lot of movement going on over on the game, so I thought I would take a moment to get out some of the things that got said over at the Starfleet Org Meeting tonight. We've been dealing off and on with rumors and gossip these days, but as an aside, and through direct messages to me, I've been privvy to some pretty harsh gossip that's been floating around about some of the recent promotions/positions that have been assigned by the administration or by the admiralty.

I understand that it's nature of everyone to spread gossip. How else can people feel 'in the know' or at least make themselves look bigger than they actually are? Even the hint of 'inside information' gains respect otherwise unseen, and that's just something so tempting that most people will sacrifice their own personal integrity to get it. It costs nothing to hint, and the rewards are immediate and eventually widespread. Under most circumstance, I could care less about gossip. I know some players have left the game over this kind of behavior, but there's really nothing we can do about it. The power to end gossip lies in the hands of the player listening, and while I personally don't take gossip as fact and tend to want to go directly to the person involved to get the truth, others will take the cowardly route and say nothing.

If you hear something that doesn't sound right, you've got many options to choose from:

    1) Go straight to the horse's mouth. If someone is directly involved, you've got nothing to gain but the truth. If it differs from the gossip, then you know the person is full of shit. Ninety-nine percent of the time, they are full of shit.

    2) If it involves something that gets you pissed off, the administration needs to hear about it. If you think you can't get an unbiased response, then you send it to *Wiz to let all of us read it and give you a response. That's why we have so many wizards, for redundancy.

    3) Bring it up at the weekly org meetings. You put it out there in front of everyone and you get it out in the open where everyone can see it and acknowledge it. And where the administration has no choice but directly address it.

The bottom line is, communication. If you hear something that angers you, or you have an opinion on something that went down, we want to hear about it. If you say nothing, then it'll continue to happen, you'll boil over and blow up. That's a pretty unproductive solution, and if that's how you want to play it, then leave. You are not helping anyone, least of all yourslf, and your mere presence on the game will only result in more anger and resentment. Leave now, and save everyone the trouble of your toxic presence.

War Over. [Feb. 3rd, 2003|08:18 am]

I thought I'd mention that here, since no one else has.

It's quite a relief. I don't know if anyone else would agree with me, but after being at war for about 9 years ICly, I'm glad for peace. The days spent aboard Farragut running border patrol seem idyllic to me now.

Either that or I'm just getting old mentally, what with the idealizing of days past.

And so it begins... [Jul. 27th, 2002|01:23 am]

    grei
Well, the War has begun and as I've suggested on channel, we've got a very easy way of explaining how things go. So now, Grei's quick explaination of events to date.

We've got the following as our Dramatis Personae:

Vice Admiral Ritter as the Cardinal
Chancellor Gowron as the King of France
Minister Sanuk as the Crown Prince
Vice Admiral Richards as M. de Treville
    Junior Admiral Rel as Porthos
    Junior Admiral Shra'Hawk as Athos
    Commodore Palmer as Aramis
People fighting for Richards as the Musketeers
People fighting for Ritter as the Cardinal's Guards

So anyway, we've got the Cardinal plotting to take over France (i.e. the Galactic Alliance) so he gathers everyone together in one spot and when they would not agree to his proposal, had his Guard lay waste to the palace while he made his escape. The King was killed, but the Prince was captured by the Cardinal.

Meanwhile, the Musketeers have rushed to the Capital upon hearing of the treason, and are trying to find out who all survived and protect those who did survive. Meanwhile the Guards lay in wait to spring their trap, to finish off the Musketeers once and for all.

And thus, we are where we are now in the Civil War. Nice, simple and clearcut, no?

It's finally happened! The war hath beginneth! And let me tell you, it sure did happen a bit differently than I expected it to. What're your thoughts? I thought it was great how it happened, although I would have liked to /not/ be attacked by 2 vessels at once. Anyway, it was a blast! Post what you think too.
