| Flowers, Fok Fest and chasing Caribou |

It's been a very busy, crazy, and lively past two weeks for myself. At the beginning of last week I returned to Nopiming Park, Black lake area specifically, and finished off my transects looking for rare plants. We could Checkered Rattlesnake Plantain, Hookers Orchids (only found one dead one, teehee, that joke never gets old), Pad-leaved Orchids, Running Club-moss, Bog Club-moss, and a several non rare species like Spotted Coral Root, Mocasin Orchids, and a ton of Twin Flowers. I may post some pictures later, but I have to work out hosting and resizing them first. My camera also boasts the picture stitch feature, so I have some nice 360 degree shots of everything around me. Also, posting pictures requires me to be at my real computer, which lately, and as you read, you will see I'm never near that thing.
On Thursday last week I headed off to Folk fest. I didn't find much this year for bands that I liked, because nothing really jumped out at me, and also, I wasn't in the folkiest mood either. The bands that did jump out at me were Basia Bulat, and Jacob and Lily. Also, Hayden was there, and he was his usual depressing, meek self; he was great. There were a few other artists that were fun or quirky to see, but I don't think I'll be listening to them on a regular basis, which include" The Fugitives, and Micheal Franti and Spearhead. Next year I don't plan on camping unless I find some people to for sure camp with. This year I camped with the Zombie crew/Smurf village, but I didn't really know anyone. Will and Bre had their own area and crashed early anyways. Not many other people I knew camped. Next year I will camp if there is a solid crowd I can put together. At the festival I did hang out with Rex and Allison, Shawna and Erin, and Kate(Pink haired)! Maybe next year I may not go at all, depending on the line up. This year wasn't too impressive for me, so who knows what the future holds.
Caribou! I chased them, I didn't actually catch them, but I saw them being caught. We flew up to Sasginnigak lake on a single turbine float plane, camped out at the little cabin there, and then boated around the many islands on the lake. Three boats would drop us off on the island where we would proceed to make as much noise as possible while moving through the islands. scaring the caribou off into the water. The boats would then coral, lasso, and then blindfold them and push them back onto the island. Tackling, hogtying, and holding the caribou down was next. Thankfully I didn't have to do this part, since well, I don't weight enough to even hold a caribou down, and the other guys got smoked in the lips, jaws and head whilst doing said aforementioned activities. A collar was fitted and blood samples were taken before releasing the caribou. I have a video and pictures of this, but well, at no compression their size collectively is about three quarters of a gig. So again, if and when I get to my computer, and fix them up, I'll post them. I'm betting on late September that'll happen.
I flew from the lake this past Wednesday evening. So between camping, hippy camping, and caribou chasing camping, followed by more camping next week, I think I may not see my bed in awhile. Also, anyone up for camping sometime in August, maybe? Hiking, fishing, and canoeing maybe also included. Mind you, this isn't powered, fancy camping, this is carry what you can on your back camping.
Next paycheck I'm buying a water filter so I can drink anything and not have to carry water around with me. |
