This is a copy of the second long email I wrote

ok, so where did I leave off?

Friday night I stayed up until breakfast. I couldn't sleep at all. I surfed the internet (since it was evening/midnightish for many of my friends) and wished that I was watching Batman with Kevin or Dave or someone. I read alot of the hitchhikers guide to the galaxy, its quite a suitable companion for my travels ("Don't panic, and Bring a Towel"). The continental breakfast at the hotel was amazing. Fresh cheeses, baked breads, cured meats, seeds, etc. Have I told you this stuff yet? Whatever, I'm not going to back check so if its a repeat too bad.

I slept until about 2pm! crazy for me hey? It still wasn't a full nights rest. I got ready and headed out to Notting HIll (I was staying in the neighbouring Bayswater). I wanted to ship some luggage here, but because I was too late in the day, and it was a Friday, they were going to steal all my money and still not deliver it to Poznan until I had already left. So...I shopped for about 3 and a half hours carrying around some heavy luggage.

Some of the stores were really cool, but some were really touristy. Just like Montreal (this is a common catch phrase that ran through my head in London). I bought a couple of dresses (one cheap, one 60$ Canadian, but its cute), some hair clips, british magazines (Tatler, and some arsty looking one on fashion and art), a little card for Katie, and these strange pencil crayons made from twigs! They had the bark on them still! I had a smoothie, which wasn't as yummy as I'm used to at booster juice, and then a strawberry/nutella crepe from a stand (like montreal...). I got to the Portobello market right as it was closing, but the shops seem ok. One store sold JUST HANDMADE KNOBS FOR DRAWERS! I wanted some so badly but thought better of it.

I hoped on a bus randomly when I got tired of walking and it magically took me to the closest bus stop to my hotel. I love my hotel btw,

I didn't want to go out, but I felt sort of pressured to. It took me forever to get some internet chores done (such as ordering that extra luggage permission in advanced to save 12$) and then I went to an Indian restaurant down the street. I forgot what it was called, but I have the business card. I then proceeded to The End, which had a drum and bass night going on. In Winnipeg, we have great djs, but we dont have alot of producers (those dudes that make the songs...djs just mix them and play with them). In London, they get the producers playing at bars, so thats kind of cool. But some drunken british guy kept touching me so I got kinda pissed off and got myself some drinks. The music was good, but I still like my local djs better, they catter more to my taste. In London, they have some all night buses, so I hopped on one of them when I was starting to get bored, and walked through Kensington park. Its closed at night, I don't know why I went in there. It was creepy, so I called Dave and made him stay on the phone with me until I could find a short spot in the fence to hop. Note to self, dont do that again!

So..One of the dress stores never bothered to remove the security tag...I had to go there first thing in the morning to get it fixed. Then I dragged all my crap through the tube and got a ticket for a Gatwick express train that takes you straight to the airport, which is south of London. My flight was ok. In Poznan, I took a bus and then transfered onto a street tram to get here (the hostel) but I was in the back car and couldn't see street names...so I jumped off too soon. I managed to carry everything to the hostel...well past the hostel, I walked right by it. Some helpful lady who was fluent in English told me she didnt know where it was, but then noticed it on her walk and turned around to tell me where it was. Lovely!

so here I am. I ate a meal (well, two appetizers, which  is more expensive combined than one entree) at a place called BeeJays, which had a variety of food. I had Breaded Camembert with cranberry dip. Its like a mozza stick, except its camembert insteaf of Mozza, and instead of sticks it was a puck. Interesting.

And now I'm here. I don't want to party, my whole body is sore from all the luggage. I think I'm going to read and take it easy. I realize tehre is no point in making plans, because then I just want to change themonce they are made. So thats my long story.

a philosophy of teaching [Jul. 20th, 2008|04:46 am]
minima_de_malis
I think I might have posted this a while ago, but no matter. I came across it again as I was filtering through some of my old files and it made me reflect back on my less cynical and more wishy-washy philosophical days. Food for thought, and a bit of a kick to the rear. One has to be reminded of their own convictions sometimes.

*********************

No matter how much you prepare notes, present your slides and overheads, provide questions and assignments, getting up in front of the class and lecturing... that is not teaching. No matter how long you sit and take notes, study the books, do the homework... that is not learning.

When I talk and you listen, that is not learning. When you ask and I answer, that is teaching. When I answer and you challenge, then, you are learning.

What use is knowledge if it is not shared? I am here to give you the benefit of my years of experience and education. I am not here to show you how to manipulate numbers and solve equations. I am here to make you think; to show you how to approach a problem with reason and logic, and to create your own solutions and methodologies, instead of relying on a pre-made plan or formula. Then, when life eventually throws you a curve, you will hopefully have enough skill and confidence in your abilities to handle whatever comes your way.

This is not my duty as a teacher. This is my duty as a human being.

quick update - poker game success? :) [Jul. 20th, 2008|03:35 am]

I think poker last night was successful. I mean - I made money - so that's always kind of fun, but in terms of people having a good time? I think it worked. It was my first attempt at holding an actual cash game - (like a 'ring game' online? where 1 dollar chip represents 1 actual dollar.. etc). We played with 5 cent 10 cent blinds, no limit, texas hold'em of course. MOST people bought in on average for $20. SO it was really no more expensive than my usual 'tournament' poker nights - but added a level of flexibility. If anyone as ever tried to HOST an event? especially a regularly re-occurring event.. they will tell you, it's challenging to get a group of people to all be at the same place, at the same time, and on task to do the same thing. The cash games makes this a bit easier because as soon as a few people have arrived say.. 4-5 you can realistically start the game, and have people join/leave as they please. Also they are NEVER stuck waiting for a tournament to end so they can join the next, AND they can limit their level of investment to whatever they please.

The downside is of course... making change, slowing the game down when ppl need to "rebuy" (wasn't an issue for us) or "cash out". ALSO the risk that somehow the money doesn't balance... of course it SHOULD - but people + money == crazy. Thankfully for us it all balanced out, and the people at the end of the game weren't retarded and where willing to just pool the collective "80 cents here, 1.60 here" etc to give us nice round numbers at the end.

The group was a pretty... 'light' group as far as my poker games of the past have gone - (less strict about table talk, low tolerance for higher stakes etc) and I HOPE everyone enjoyed the format... because I think I will continue to run games like that. I might tweak the denominations of chips we do.. we'll see.

--
ALSO!! played Power Grid again tonight - fuck that game is fun. I screwed myself, and then in the end accidentally helped screw Chris from a win.. it was a SUPER tight game. Most memorable moment... bidding on the 'space power' or whatever the fuck it is... starting cost 50, powers 6 cities for NO resource .. plant.. I bid up to like 80, Dani comes back with an enthusiastic and unchallengeable bid of $200.

Fun game.

Gonna try for a Batman matinee tomorrow!! VERY EXCITED!

I must say, Heath Ledger's death seems so much more significant now after seeing The Dark Knight. Not that I'm undermining his death as being irrelevant, it's just that his old movies never really showcased how much of a talented actor he is until now.

You might have guessed by now -- I loved the movie. The fact that Christian Bale is in it, big Christian Bale fangirl I am, has nothing to do with it either. I was just really blown away by Heath Ledger. I was so sure he was going to be bad in it.

I might want to see it again. If only so I can ogle the Balester. I was too distracted with Heath Ledger's performance that I didn't get to give him the ogling he deserves. I mean, let's be serious:

I went to the used bookstore called Aqua Books downtown on Thursday.  Meandering, I found a few books that caught my attention.  One of them was Umberto Eco's Six Walks in the Fictional Woods

At 142 pages, I have just finished reading it.  I have never been so impressed and amazed with a literary critic.  I usually detest literary critics as they tend to overanalyze fiction.  Eco doesn't fall into that trap.

Using metaphors to explain how fiction tends to be more real than life itself, the essays in this book weave a brilliant, ontological observation of how fiction is read.  Embedded in his idea of intertextuality is the weaving together of all the stories of history to present reality as we know it.  We can't read a story, or even a sentence for that matter, without having some expectation of how language flows to form a cohesive idea.  In order to impart a message, the reader must have background knowledge to fill in the gaps to form what the author is saying.

Ontology, alchemy, the mind and fiction.  All right up my alley.  As a book that is capable of blowing my mind, this definitely deserves the fire tag.

Looking at my list of books to read, I see that he wrote Foucault's Pendulum, a book that was recommended to me a while ago on this journal.

[music |Hallelujah -- John CAle]

Oh noes, a company is trying to make money. Somebody, call the presses in order to expose this great injustice!

Aw man, ever since Wednesday (or was it Tuesday?) my heel has been in constant pain. :( Originally it was just really, really painful during the night and an annoyance during the day, but now I'm at the point to where I can't run at all without searing pain and walking has also become harder, especially since I can't really put any weight on the damned thing. Not to mention, whenever someone touches my heel, it feels as if someone with nails for knuckles punched it.

Mayo Clinic keeps saying it's Achilles tendinitis and I seriously hope it isn't. I don't want a surgery if the damn thing ruptures. But my next appointment with my doctor in is October and I don't have any time to go to a walk-in clinic (I mean, I could phone in sick to work, but Jesus, I just started two weeks ago and I don't want to use up all my sick hours right away). I don't want to go the emergency, because I don't want to sit in the waiting room for 12 hours and besides I don't think they'll do anything unless (if it really is Achilles tendinitis) it ruptures. I could go to Urgent Care, but I'd need somebody to drive me back home, because I'm sure once they let me go, it'll be like 2 in the morning and the buses will have stopped running by then and nobody in my family has a goddamn car other than my uncle who went camping this weekend.

I try not to walk much, put my exercise schedule on a break, keep my leg lifted up on a pillow on a chair, and took some ibuprofen but still. I haven't tried ice because it isn't swollen and I haven't tried heat because it hasn't helped in the past and I doubt it will now.

I don't know what to do, to be honest. My mom keeps telling me to tough it out and go to the emergency, but I already stated my reasons as to why I hadn't already gone and besides heel pain seems so trivial and I don't want to be the kind of person who goes to the emergency every time they get an ache and pain.

On the upside, I scored around 120~ goals on Yooyuball. Oh god, I'm such a loser.

Ugh. I'm so tired, maybe I'll just sleep on it.

Madagascar is a total bitch to infect though because they only have a seaport and they seem to close it up really quick.

Lazy day today.

Slept in. Had a lazy breakfast. Did some reading.

I did some shopping for DVDs. I found this one, and this one. All for just over $13.

So now I'm just relaxing some more, watching Ronin. A heist flick set in France. Robert De Niro. Sean Bean. Jean Reno. Stellan SkarsgÄrd. Natascha McElhone. A car chase through old Nice.

Brilliant.

ETA: I forgot. Katarina Witt is also in Ronin. Hottest figure skater ever.

Anyway, just go back to what you were doing.

Opposite to Emotion Action [Jul. 19th, 2008|08:10 pm]

crowdog66
[Tags|]

One of the core skills of Dialectical Behavioral Therapy for Borderline Personality Disorder is a technique called "Opposite to Emotion Action".

Opposite to Emotion Action the last suggested technique for changing painful emotions. Like all of the techniques we have been learning about, it takes a lot of practice to be able to use it skillfully. The idea behind this technique is that it can help to deal with distressing emotions by setting into motion an action that is helpful, not harmful. Doing this counteracts the suffering you might otherwise feel because of the distressing emotion.

For example, if we are angry, there are many actions that we might take to express our angry feelings. But if the action that we take is one that is opposite to the emotion we feel, like walking away from a situation when we are angry, or distracting ourselves with something nice, then we have put our energy into something that is eventually going to make us feel better. In this way, we not only reversed our action (walked away instead of yelling at someone), but we also began to make a change in our angry feelings. We didn't escalate or heighten our feelings, but did something that made the feelings decrease, by putting something positive in their place.

It's important to know that this skill is not about trying to suppress our emotions. We are using that angry feeling to take a different action. The result of this will be a gradual change in our emotions.

The kinds of situations in which it is appropriate to use this technique are ones in which the emotions might not be realistic to the situation we are in, maybe out of proportion, or escalating, or be emotions that we want to challenge or change.

Just now I tried that with Reg. He'd been out all day looking at apartments and got home about ten minutes ago. I not only offered to make him some supper, but I also gave him one of the packs of Reeses Peanut Butter Cups I picked up this afternoon at the Big Dollar store in Selkirk.

I actually feel a little bit better. Wow... maybe those therapists ARE onto something after all. (As if three or so years of weekly DBT therapy didn't teach me just that. ;-))

More about the wedding we went to this afternoon later if I have the energy for it. Oh, and I got a new lambskin leather soft-sided briefcase -- actually a laptop bag, but more than suitable for the various papers I end up hauling hither, thither, and yon.

So I gave my bed away and have returned to sleeping on the floor.

Truth be told I prefer a hard floor to a soft bed. I sleep better and I don't get a sore back.

I also have a lot more space in my room. I gave away a bunch of books, sorted through a bunch of papers and generally just cleaned up really well. It feels refreshing. I just have to go through all the clothes and pick out what I probably won't (or can't) wear again. Having lost a lot of weight in the last year or so I have a lot of trousers and dress shirts that just don't fit anymore.

I wish I could just wear a robe. It'd make things a lot easier. Maybe I should, but then people would think I'm really weird as opposed to just being 'eccentric' or 'odd'.

I don't like having a lot of things. If I don't make use of something I would rather see it used by someone else, so giving things away is never difficult.

I feel like I'm here only temporarily. I have about another year left here in Edmonton and then off I'll go elsewhere for a few more years.

I foresee myself living in many places over the next five to ten years...

And you know what? I like the idea of that.

So today's not bad. Hot though. Really friggin' hot. (And yet when we left the house I took my hoodie with me because Winterpeg likes it's RANDOM DOWNPOURS.)

Dana and I went to Starbucks to 'write' which, as it turns out, translates to Dana writing and me wandering around the store. I also listened to this really EMODRAMATIC song a bunch of times. (I did work a bit on a character profile though so it wasn't a total loss.)

Picked up the first volume of RE:play. It seems to be about a band. I actually just picked it up because I saw Christy Lijewski's stuff in another book about NA manga-style artists and really liked her style. It reminds me a lot of Kubo Tite.

it is about dr. horrible, an up-and-coming supervillian, penny, the girl at the laundromat he's too shy to talk to, and captain hammer, (played by nathan fillion, Mal from firefly) who is dr. horrible's arch-nemesis.

We lost Catmund. We lost her on Thursday, although technically we didn't notice until Friday at 3am. Probably because i'm a bad cat-owner who not only probably was the one that let her out, but didn't notice her missing for a whole 17 hours.

I really wish we hadn't declawed her front paws. Maybe then if she was outside she could defend herself. But Dylan's mom is a veterinarian assistant, and she said we should. I also wish Catmund wasn't so dumb. I don't know if she'd even be capable of surviving outside. Small bugs in our apartment freak her out.

I was putting up some posters today (although i only put up 3 before there was a big dumping of rain) and some guy from my apartment building said he thought he saw Catmund being taken outside by some guy yesterday. But he didn't say where the guy took her. So I put a 'lost cat reward offered'  under everyone's door just now. Which as it turns out, is 88 doors, if you don't count ours. So hopefully if the guy lives here he'll call us and tell us about what was hopefully Catmund.

I'm going to be pretty furious if this guy just took her outside and left her there, especially given that as of yesterday, there were makeshift posters at the entrances, and she clearly has a tattoo.

I keep expecting for her to just turn up. Like "Oh hey Catmund, there you are you silly cat. What's that? You're perfectly fine and have been fed like a king for the last two days? That's wonderful news. Come over here and sit on my lap."

Flowers, Fok Fest and chasing Caribou [Jul. 19th, 2008|02:36 pm]

eyexmeetsxeye
It's been a very busy, crazy, and lively past two weeks for myself. At the beginning of last week I returned to Nopiming Park, Black lake area specifically, and finished off my transects looking for rare plants. We could Checkered Rattlesnake Plantain, Hookers Orchids (only found one dead one, teehee, that joke never gets old), Pad-leaved Orchids, Running Club-moss, Bog Club-moss, and a several non rare species like Spotted Coral Root, Mocasin Orchids, and a ton of Twin Flowers. I may post some pictures later, but I have to work out hosting and resizing them first. My camera also boasts the picture stitch feature, so I have some nice 360 degree shots of everything around me. Also, posting pictures requires me to be at my real computer, which lately, and as you read, you will see I'm never near that thing.

On Thursday last week I headed off to Folk fest. I didn't find much this year for bands that I liked, because nothing really jumped out at me, and also, I wasn't in the folkiest mood either. The bands that did jump out at me were Basia Bulat, and Jacob and Lily. Also, Hayden was there, and he was his usual depressing, meek self; he was great. There were a few other artists that were fun or quirky to see, but I don't think I'll be listening to them on a regular basis, which include" The Fugitives, and Micheal Franti and Spearhead.
Next year I don't plan on camping unless I find some people to for sure camp with. This year I camped with the Zombie crew/Smurf village, but I didn't really know anyone. Will and Bre had their own area and crashed early anyways. Not many other people I knew camped. Next year I will camp if there is a solid crowd I can put together. At the festival I did hang out with Rex and Allison, Shawna and Erin, and Kate(Pink haired)! Maybe next year I may not go at all, depending on the line up. This year wasn't too impressive for me, so who knows what the future holds.

Caribou!
I chased them, I didn't actually catch them, but I saw them being caught. We flew up to Sasginnigak lake on a single turbine float plane, camped out at the little cabin there, and then boated around the many islands on the lake. Three boats would drop us off on the island where we would proceed to make as much noise as possible while moving through the islands. scaring the caribou off into the water. The boats would then coral, lasso, and then blindfold them and push them back onto the island. Tackling, hogtying, and holding the caribou down was next. Thankfully I didn't have to do this part, since well, I don't weight enough to even hold a caribou down, and the other guys got smoked in the lips, jaws and head whilst doing said aforementioned activities. A collar was fitted and blood samples were taken before releasing the caribou. I have a video and pictures of this, but well, at no compression their size collectively is about three quarters of a gig. So again, if and when I get to my computer, and fix them up, I'll post them. I'm betting on late September that'll happen.

I flew from the lake this past Wednesday evening. So between camping, hippy camping, and caribou chasing camping, followed by more camping next week, I think I may not see my bed in awhile. Also, anyone up for camping sometime in August, maybe? Hiking, fishing, and canoeing maybe also included. Mind you, this isn't powered, fancy camping, this is carry what you can on your back camping.

Next paycheck I'm buying a water filter so I can drink anything and not have to carry water around with me.

Tending the Garden [Jul. 19th, 2008|01:59 pm]

prettydark
I've just come in from tending the garden. In the front bed, I watered and weeded, and tied tomatoes to stakes. The whole bed looks completely full and lush. The calendulas are plentiful with blossoms, I am going to let them self-seed again. The marigolds I started from seed are coming in, and they're rather ugly while they develop, but they are quite nice when the blossom is full. The zinnias are budding, and the asters and cosmos aren't doing anything just yet.

In the back garden I tied tomatoes, and strung up string for the scarlet runner bean and some of the more advanced tomatoes that have reached the top of their stakes already. I also weeded and made a little hose stand so the hose doesn't crush my ferns, hostas, and the cauliflower there. Despite the back garden being a dappled area which never truly gets enough sun to really grow vegetables, the garden is making a decent effort this year. We'll see. Next year I may rent a garden plot from the city somewhere.

Just got home from a whirlwind trip to Calgary. We went for the football game, but we stayed for a friend. The game, unfortunately, was absolutely brutal. My heart broke for our buddy. It was good to see him though.

It's incredible to me how fast sports fans turn on someone. For the first three games, my friend was being hailed as the new team star. And he deserved it. On Thursday he had a very bad game, and while I feel like most are being fairly forgiving, there's a lot of calls for his head.

The most basic thing about team sports, that some fans oddly seem to forget, is that a player can't have a great game (or a bad one) singlehandedly. Quarterbacks need protection. Receivers need a quarterback. Running backs need an O-line. The O-line needs good coaching.

Fans have singled out two players for the brunt of their ire. And both of them had too many individual mistakes. At the same time, even to a football newbie like me it was obvious enough that the entire team was imploding, and as a result it would have been pretty difficult for either of the people in the line of fire to get back on their feet.

Frustrating. I also learned that watching football games is No Fun when you have any sort of emotional investment into the performance of the players. Every time our friend got near the ball, I thought I was going to throw up from the tension.

In other news, Calgary will never be a city I have much love for. I'm glad to be home.

Holy Batman, Batman! [Jul. 19th, 2008|02:15 am]

One of my pet peeves (I have many) is people who complain about the food when they go out to restauraunts. I don't know why. I fully realize you paid for your food and you work hard for your money and blah blah blah, but it still annoys me for whatever reason. My mom does it all the time, maybe that's why it bothers me so much. I don't know. If a place has such terrible food, then simply don't go back. That's it. Sound easy? Good. Another pet peeve I have is when people pronounce "sandwich" as "samwich". Hate it!

Tonight I made it to a showing of "The Dark Knight" and it was fucking awesome. Heath Ledger totally pwned as the Joker. I think he was even better than Jack Nicholson, even though hipsters and over-the-hill nerds will disagree with me. And I'm glad they got rid of Katie Holmes for the second one. I'm not really gonna talk about the movie other than to say go see "The Dark Knight".

I'm geeking out here, but before the movie I saw a preview for the new Terminator movie and then there was this:

Holy crap!

While glancing through the aforementioned dead weblog, I found this → and I’m in love all over again.

There’s a certain tedium to the many people suggesting that I’m somehow disappointed that having an iPhone around here is no longer rare. As if that’s why I use it! I enjoy the interface and everyone should have access to good interfaces. I’m definitely a fan of the massive toxic waste created by the ceaseless growth of thrilling technologies.

This Homosexual Agenda Gaining Ground In Barbados article is delightful to me, especially the ← accompanying photo. It’s pleasingly unvitriolic, even the comments, for the most part! (I didn’t ask permission to use that photo. Sorry, webmaster!)

Two former Winnipeggers now living in San Diego tell me they think it’ll be McCain. Could it be true?! Not that I believe anyone, including Obama, can (or would even want to?) stop the momentum of collapse, but… really?!

[mood |hot]

I've lost track of my days, I thought today was Saturday.  And last Monday I thought it was Friday.  Sheesh.  Jun said EVERYDAY is a weekend for me since I've quit my job...I guess he's right.

I've been shopping waaaaay too much that it's disgusting.  I don't know, I may just have lost all control of my spending habits.  I just can't stop.  And what's stupid is I DON'T EVEN HAVE A FREAKIN' JOB! I will be in debt way beyond my death.

I start my new job very soon.  I kind of wish I didn't have to go back to work.  But this time around, it's mandatory.  I'm having nightmares about my credit card bills.  Whoever invented credit cards definitely had women in mind.  I don't know of any guys who have a shopping problem.

Jun and I are stable again.  He hasn't been getting on my nerves as much as before.  I guess also because he just keeps quiet whenever I whip out my credit cards for shopping.  I know it doesn't help that he no longer bickers at me for spending too much, but it really does show me that all he wants is for me to be happy and in turn, I can see just how much he cares regardless of all the stupid fights we've had.  But hey, it's not like I nag at him for his golfing expenses! If anything, that's more expensive than my shopping! This week alone he has spent roughly around $200.00 on golf.  Okay no wait, I just spent $200.00 at the mall yesterday, $80.00 the day before that, and another $100.00 online today, that's...umm...err...fine.  I lose.

But whatever.  I'm happy.  He's happy.  Although now we're broke.  Ah who cares, as long as we're happy.

Bat Foy (Jun) has gotten really dark.  That's what you get for spending six hours at the beach with zero sunblock.

Taken literally 10 minutes ago.  It's so hot in this house.  I wanna walk around in my underwear, but the last time I did that Jun came home with one of his buddies who needed to use the washroom.  I screamed like a mother, not because his friend saw me in my bra and panties, but because Jun was so shocked to see me practically nekkid with his buddy standing there that he ended up tackling me to the ground to get me covered up.  Yeh, a 200 pound body slamming me to the ground...like that didn't hurt.

So far our trip home has consisted of overslept alarms, fierce storms, and horrific accidents (which [info]atara discusses in a bit more detail in her journal).

I was going to write something longer about this, but I'm too tired and stressed from the road to be fully coherent just now. =/

Missy.. [Jul. 18th, 2008|10:46 pm]

kaemoxmith

As some of you may or may not know...This is my cat Missy in her younger days.
She has been with me for 15 crazy years. She is my first baby girl and just so you all know
I do love her very much :)

Recently Darby discovered a large tennis ball size cyst like thing under her right front paw (it wasn't there the day before when i groomed her trying to get rid of her mats) and the Vet said she thought it was a tumor, and a cancerous growth...So she drained the cyst to make her more comfy and sent the sample off to the Lab.
Lab work came in and SURPRISE! No tumor cells. Very happy happy news. However the Cyst will keep filling and make her feel uncomfortable. She is having issues walking, and i'm pretty sure she hasn't been eating much.
So the Vet wants to continue to drain her cyst and do a biopsy of her growth and surgically remove it, however she won't be able to remove the whole thing as it's attached to her shoulder muscle (meaning it will grow back in a matter of time).

So with alot of thinking, and hard decision making, it is with great great sadness and pain
Missy will be put down on Tuesday July 22nd at 2:30pm, if she can hold on a little longer.

So to you My friends, I wanted to share a little bit of Missy's life story.
She was born on May 31st, 1990 and had a brother. They were both in a little pet shop
in St.Bruno, Quebec. A pet shop that belonged to our neighbour's brother. She was always playful,
and a great cuddler. She came when called, and cuddled at all the right times. If i was sad, she'd be there, and wouldn't leave me alone...She will always be remembered, and loved, and truely missed.

[music |Death In Vegas - Dirge]

I had a particularly tough day at work. Multiple crisis situations cumulatively get to me, which is why I'm not at Brian's birthday party. I'm at home, with a headache, clonazepam and a hot bath.

I've planned out what I'm packing, leaving on Monday. 3 days and I'll be outta here, and its not a day too soon.

I hate my stomach right now, but have no problems with the rest of my body... I guess it could be worse.

My lease is over at the end of August. Chris told his friend he'd live with him. I found another 2 bedroom thats really cheap and gigantic, and now have no room mate. I'm paying rent for August in 2 apartments, and I'm not even going to be in the country. Ugh. I need a room mate.

Quick update... [Jul. 19th, 2008|12:17 am]

[mood |pensive]

So, our plan was to get as far as Medicine Hat today. That would have put us about 10 hours out from Winnipeg tomorrow, a nice easy drive. Unfortunately, I'm writing this from a Holiday Inn in Calgary - that'll be about a 12-13 hour drive tomorow instead.

Why?

We were delayed for more than two hours today on the Transcanada. (I did a quick search to see if there were stories about it yet, but didn't find anything. I was a bit worried that it had hit the news already, since we didn't want anyone to be worried about us.)

Delay #1 happened about 40 (?)km west of Golden, BC. Traffic was stopped for about 50 minutes. We ate the cold pizza that we had brought from [info]plonq's mom's place and waited. When we were finally able to go, we saw the delay was caused by a car vs car vs semi-trailer accident. The semi was in the ditch on the side of the road, with the front smashed in and pieces of a blue car wrapped around his rear trailer tires. The rest of the blue car was in bad shape, and they were also towing away a white car with a crumpled hood.

That was sobering.

Delay #2 happened about 15 km west of Golden. It was (thankfully) mostly cleaned up by the time we got up to it, but even the little we saw left me chilled. We heard a description from the truckers while we were waiting for an hour and 15 minutes to go. :( It sounds (and looks like) car vs motorhome vs motorcycle.

Let's just say that the car's airbags were both blown and the front was smashed in, but there was motorcycle debris on the side of the road for over 100 ft, ending with the packs and handlebars. :(

We were inconvenienced and lost about two hours.

Other people lost much more than that today.

I'm quite thankful we've gotten this far safely. Only 1350km to go.
