| McCain's Choice |
[Aug. 30th, 2008|01:49 am] |
I don't blog about politics. I do not engage in political discourse. You vote for whomever you want and I will do likewise. I do think you SHOULD vote, but I even moreso think that you should have the RIGHT to decide whether you want to vote or not.
I set up that exposition because I do have an opinion about ( McCain's choice for Vice President: ) |

The second diabetes class was actually interesting. We discussed eating, portions, grams of carbs for each meal/snacks, etc.
As expected, a few folks didn't show up. I think those of us who showed today are the hard core group who'll stick it out until the end.
Next week, we bring in our glucose readings to see where we can improve. Now, if I could get rid of this esophogitis, I'd be a happy camper. Seems I got it during our last class, when I had a cup of coffee. Sigh... I'll have to just ride it out until the esophagus heals.
Today, we had a Rep Forum with the Call Center Director. Instead of her dictating what she wanted to talk about, it was more of a round table where we brought up concerns. Of note was the answer to the question I'd posed concerning the possible expansion of different jobs available at the call center. While she couldn't specifically comment, she did say there were two possibilities in the wind. w00t! I really like working for The Death Star AT&T, but as much as I love my job, I'm going to hit the maximum pay I can make next year and would be nice to end my working career with them.
Because my schedule was all jacked-up today, I totally spaced taking my reading before lunch; two hours after lunch it was under the recommended 180. However, because of the esophogitis, I've been taking Mylanta at night. Didn't realize it probably has some form of carbs in it, so my readings in the morning are higher. I was getting concerned that I was missing something.
Anyway, I have a three day weekend and look forward to finishing up my apa contribution and a few other odds and ends that need doing. |

| Skunk Poetry: Homer's "Summer Night" |
[Aug. 29th, 2008|11:52 pm] |
"Summer Night" by Winslow Homer
In the Background figures dance so-close where one begins another ends in the background cloaked shadowy figures simply silent watchers? the sea the color of happiness melancholy a great crest of waves, moonlight but no moon a passing storm – or one to come? --- Hit Ctrl-A for the unskunked version...
Two figures dance in the foreground, their clothes blended together so close that you cannot tell where one begins and another ends. Who are these people? A man and a woman? Two women? A mother and a child? And who are those figures in the background, cloaked shadowy figures whose shape reveals nothing about their identities. Do they wish bad things for the dancers, or are they simply silent watchers? What does the artist intend for us to think about them? In the background, the sea in gray and blue - not the color of happiness but almost of melancholy. Storm clouds in the sky – a passing storm or one to come? The central figures make the whole thing seem festive, but the other colors make it seem almost dreary, dire. No ships in the sea, no idea why these people are dancing. For joy? Or is there something more there? Are they not so much dancing as embracing? No, they’re dancing. In the middle of the sea, a great crest of waves, one almost like a triangle. There is moonlight, but there is no evident moon. Waves break onto shore, but they’re not threatening.

| Epic /Twilight/ Fandom_Wank thread is Epic |
[Aug. 29th, 2008|10:39 pm] |
No, really, it is.
F_W user Caco posts:
I'm wondering how Bella choosing to become a vampire makes her magically different than somebody who becomes a vampire involuntarily.
So if Bella bought a bunch of heroin, she could snort the shit out of it without having to worry about becoming addicted, because she had been informed that heroin was addictive beforehand, and still chose to do it?
Holy shit. I would read that book. I want druggie!Bella. EVERYTHING DAZZLES NOW. ...and the thread proceeds to explain how Twlight makes so much more sense if you read it as a teen drug addict's sort of opium dream.
I'm going to have to read these books, I am. They'll dovetail nicely with the Leftbehind series. Once I download the PDFs.
OK, yes I know, my Friday night is full of fail...

| | lonely | ] | I miss my baby. :( Four nights is toooooo long, especially when I'm not otherwise occupied. It's best for him to not be here, but that doesn't mean we have to like it.
You know what really sucks? John and I have three entire days alone, with nothing we need to do, and we can't have sex. Karma is a real bitch sometimes. |
