-----Original Message----- From: Kate Schick <tuscanystudios@gmail.com> To: TuscanyStudios@yahoogroups.com Sent: Fri, 29 Aug 2008 7:29 pm Subject: [TuscanyStudios] Plea for help!
Hi Guys - well, we find ourselves in the situation where we might need to evacuate because of Hurricane Gustav. We're hoping this won't be the case, but will make a decision on Sunday/Monday depending on the forcasted landfall. Our problem is that we have just recently moved here and do not know many people in the area. I will need to evacuate with my 2 horses, 4 dogs and 3 cats (as well as 2 kids, hubby and a dwarf rabbit!) We live now in Orange, Texas which is right on the TX/LA border...about 1-2 hours East of Houston. We are desperately looking for someone who would be able to take my horses in - probably North of here - in the Dallas/Tyler area ?...or even in the Shreveport LA area? The dogs and cats can stay in the truck but I am totally panicked about heading North with no place to let my horses out of the trailer. If you have space and would be willing to take them in (or know of someone who might be able to help us) until this all blows over, *please* drop me a line at tuscanystudios (at) gmail.com
Please feel free to pass this on to anyone you think may be able to help us. My 2 horses are a 3yr old Arabian gelding and a 9 yr old Arabian mare. Both are up to date on their shots and Coggins and are relatively sane :-)
Hopefully it won't even be an issue and it will miss us this time, but I'd feel alot more confident if we had somewhere to take the horses out of danger if the need arises.
Many many thanks for your help, Kate Schick

From Rodger Schlickeisen: Defenders of Wildlife Action Fund
Dear Terrie,
A few hours ago, the news broke that Alaska Governor Sarah Palin has been selected by Sen. John McCain as the vice presidential candidate for the Republican ticket.
As a Defenders of Wildlife Action Fund supporter, you are no doubt aware of Governor Palin’s dismal record, from her staunch support for special interests and Big Oil to her terrible assault on wolves and other wildlife.
As much of the nation wonders just who Sarah Palin is, I wanted to pass along my statement that I've just released.
Please read it and pass it along to everyone you know.
Thanks for your continued support, Rodger
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE August 29, 2008
Shocking Choice by John McCain
WASHINGTON-- Senator John McCain just announced his choice for running mate: Governor Sarah Palin of Alaska. To follow is a statement by Rodger Schlickeisen, president of Defenders of Wildlife Action Fund.
“Senator McCain’s choice for a running mate is beyond belief. By choosing Sarah Palin, McCain has clearly made a decision to continue the Bush legacy of destructive environmental policies.
“Sarah Palin, whose husband works for BP (formerly British Petroleum), has repeatedly put special interests first when it comes to the environment. In her scant two years as governor, she has lobbied aggressively to open up the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to drilling, pushed for more drilling off of Alaska’s coasts, and put special interests above science. Ms. Palin has made it clear through her actions that she is unwilling to do even as much as the Bush administration to address the impacts of global warming. Her most recent effort has been to sue the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to remove the polar bear from the endangered species list, putting Big Oil before sound science. As unbelievable as this may sound, this actually puts her to the right of the Bush administration.
“This is Senator McCain’s first significant choice in building his executive team and it’s a bad one. It has to raise serious doubts in the minds of voters about John McCain’s commitment to conservation, to addressing the impacts of global warming and to ensuring our country ends its dependency on oil.”
###
The Defenders of Wildlife Action Fund (www.defendersactionfund.org) provides a powerful voice in Washington to Americans who value our conservation heritage. Through grassroots lobbying, issue advocacy and political campaigns, the Action Fund champions those laws and lawmakers that protect wildlife and wild places while working against those that do them harm. |

For those of you who demanded pictures:

As you can see, he's really blue and not looking his best - I'll get better photos of him and his brother after they shed. I really couldn't have asked for better pieds (or better odds!). I was going to hold back both boys but it looks like he's going to be going to a new home next week. I'm definitely going to keep the one brother as a future breeder, though.
I've got a few babies left for sale - the clutches are selling quickly - if anyone is interested in a pet boa or python this year. :) http://foxloft.com/exotics/ballpythons I've also got a few mojave and normal ball pythons I'll be updating the site with photos of them soon. And a 66% het pied male ball python - if you want to produce pieds but can't afford their prices, this is a great way to get into the game on a budget!
Ok, back to work!! |

So: last night and this morning I slowly unrolled the giant roll of posters tugrik sent me, cutting them apart one by one with an X-acto knife. There were 27, and I'll be bringing 26 of them to the show - my mother claimed #1 because, well, how much money did she sink into my art education over the years?
I really have nothing else to do except show up. I might try and finish off one of the large decks with backings I was making. Maybe. |

[Aug. 29th, 2008|08:45 am] |
I finished all my pages for ArtZone and sent the last one in. Done...sorta. I think it needs tweaking to make the content more pleasing to the eye. Now I can get to my WoW art exchange pic and the Joey Poey commission and my Bunny Comic update.
I brought in another tropical plant for my office, and on the way to work it toppled over as I nearly T-boned some idiot on the freeway who decided at the last second that he DID want to take that exit and so crossed perpendicularly in front of me, nearly stopping his car to take such a drastic change of course, to make that last-second turn to get on his freeway of choice. Texas has the WORST drivers in the nation, ask Melly.
While Joe was out with James last night I helped Bob on some quests thru BlackRock Spire, yawn. Compared to Wrath of the LIch King, this low-level instance was so rez-de-chausse. Yeah, you guys think I am bragging but JUST WAIT until you get to Northrend! You will agree. |

I did some more work on the waterfall oil painting yesterday - and I posted 2 more WIP photos, one from 2 weeks ago that I never posted and one from last nights work...
This is what it currently looks like: http://kaceym.deviantart.com/art/Waterfall-WIP6-96317189
Its far from done - but I've started sharpening the details - starting from the center of the piece and moving outwards... The parts that need the most work are the leafy parts - but I also haven't finished sharpening up the rocks or the water in the foreground. I'm at 33.5 hours total, and I still have a ways to go - but I really enjoy painting while I'm working on it...
I've noticed a number of distinct differences between working with oils and with acrylics... not least of which is their drying times ^.^, I work a lot faster in oils - because I'm not mixing and remixing the same colors which keep drying up on my palette before I can use them... and I'm not having to work hard to blend the paint together - because everything is still wet on my canvas...
I am having to budget my palette space better - because one working session = one piece of palette paper... and if I get too crazy with the mixing I run out of room and that sucks.
Also - it smells goood.. I'm not sure what it is about the paint - whether its the paint itself, the linseed oil, the turpenoid, or a mixture of all three - but its somehow soothing and makes me think of a rainy fall day in Southern California. Its interesting how smells are tied in with memories - even if the actual memory is something thats lost, I still have the feeling there..
This isn't the first time I've worked with oils - the first time was when I was about 12 and taking extra-curricular art classes in painting... and then again in college painting classes. So the memory must be linked with something back then. I'm thinking probably when I was 12 - I *loved* taking that class, and I learned so much there. I remember my 'painting pants' - which were a pair of jeans covered in oil paints - most of it intentionally because I thought it made me look like a real artist ^.^,
I can't wait until I've got a whole bunch of these landscapes painted... ^.^ I hope the WIPs are not too spammy.... I find it interesting to have them so I can look back on my previous steps and see the progress. |

| Weekend plans |
[Aug. 28th, 2008|01:38 pm] |
Tomorrow, Marg and head off for a weekend up in the Kingston area. Saturday we'll be spending a wonderful day photographing a pair of Gypsy Vanner mares and their foals. This is prep for a painting I'm doing for them. I'm really looking forward to the photo session too! The little colt is especially lovely and spending time in the pasture taking photos for a few hous is going to be wonderful!
On Sunday, we've booked a private boat tour of the 1,000 Islands area. I've always wanted to check out this lovely looking area. And a chance to do it on a private tour and not a big boat with tons of other people is worth the cost. Our pilot knows we're looking to do photography and has promised some lovely vistas and hidden coves. Any chance to be out on a boat sounds heavenly to me! After that we'll be heading home with maybe a trip off at the Bowmanville zoo if we have enough time.
We're getting home Sunday night so Marg can have the Monday to recover before heading back to work again after the long weekend. Looking forward to a relaxing and inspiring couple days after all the summer shows!
Oh yes, almost forgot. All shirts that have been paid for are going to the post office later today. Thanks so much for buying them! |

These were some things for Furfright, and well... for myself as well. A few of you will recognize our favorite white bat. :) I continue to fool with Photoshop!

Badge-y Thingers. Don't know if they will use them, but hey... I did them anyways. :) It's a fun diversion and a way to gear up for my favorite season.

You artists out there... send them art! Their deadline is this Sunday. Them, being Furfright! |

Two days in a row, an accident at the same place on the way into work. The industrial park where my office is has 4 exits facing a major road, and no lights on any of them. The only way to make a left is to wait until the left-side traffic clears, then dart into the left-hand turn lane, and wait until the right-side traffic clears before moving into the traffic lanes. I've done it a bunch of times, but it's not my route of choice. It's even worse in the winter when it's dark out, and difficult to judge the distance and speed of oncoming traffic. I've recently started taking a slightly more round-about way that avoids making that turn, although I still have to do it if I want to go straight down Balboa (to Gelson's, for example). Yeah, I've had my share of close calls, mainly people already in the left-turn lane when I try to turn into it. Eek!
So anyhow, yesterday there was an accident at one of the enterences. Someone trying to make the left out of the industrial park onto the left turn lane got t-boned. Not super-serious, but enough to fuck up the car. Today I saw a big SUV that got nailed trying to turn INTO the park from the left turn lane. That one was hit so hard the back tire went flat.
I really wish they'd put a light in there. |
