Gonna short circuit my identity

What a day.

Well before I left for work today, one of my dogs, Hammie threw up and she looked really sick and tired afterward. I of course, freaked out and got her water, rubbed her belly and everything, called my older sis and with her advice, took her out on a walk and she felt better.

So now work which I was late to. Tired as hell since right away I had to get busy and there was a huge party going on and thank goodness I didn't have to work it because I was already tired rushing my ass to get there. At one point when the party was finally on cake and everything, I go distribute cake and suddenly a woman is like, "stop talking, stop talking, someone call 9-1-1!!!!"

I turn around and I see some people taking the pulse of this old woman who passed out and I immediately go over and I just hear that woman go "call 9-1-1" and so that's exactly what I did and I gave them the details and everything and followed all their instructions. Hate to sound any egotistical if I am, but I felt a little proud of myself for having responded pretty quickly out of the like, literally 50+ people around without panicking. I teared up when the paramedics came over and took the old lady away because she was smiling and apologizing.

Later on, party continued and such and they even had a belly dancer around. I was like "ohhhh thats what those dollar bills on the table was for...."

Yeahhh....aside from that, nothing too exciting going on, video games (Beat Wild Arms!! Amazing, amazing game and I loved the ending. And I knew Lady Harken probably looked like an older Lina Inverse, gonna start on Alter Code F after finishing MGS4 and Odin Sphere!), chattin' with ze buddies, getting things that I should've gotten done but didn't because I had summer classes.

I know we will get through this, but it won't be easy.

I love you Shiva. Thank you for your approval and not throwing up on me, or leaving poop next to me in bed. Thank you keeping me warm when I was sick back in January. Thank you for keeping me company when your daddy was creating stuff and I was bored. Thank you for not killing Nietzsche, even when she was stealing your food. Thank you for letting Emily groom your face, that means more to her than you can imagine. Sorry for letting Mariposa grab you to play with you. She's an orange cat, they don't know any better. I will miss your quiet meows, after you've made eye contact with me and you act like I know what you are talking about. I'm sorry for pushing you off the bed from time to time, it wasn't your fault that I had. I hope that you've never felt like you weren't a part of this strange family, because you are and we all love you, your daddy, Nietzsche, Emily, Mariposa and me.

I don't know what we are going to do without you and we will miss you so much.

Yay for shopping!

So I got to go shopping today, which was nice since I haven't been to most of those stores for at least a month or more. At Barnes & Noble, I was hoping to find one of these 2 books: Pokémon: Diamond and Pearl Adventure! Vol. 1 and Pokémon: Diamond and Pearl Adventure! Vol. 2. Unfortunately, they only had the other manga releases (Pokémon Adventures: Best of Red, Pokémon Adventures: Best of Yellow, Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Ginji's Rescue Team, and Pokémon: The Rise of Darkrai). So maybe I'll have to buy those 2 books online if the store doesn't stock them. I also need to keep an eye out for this once it becomes available. Yay for more Pokémon manga releases~

Anyways, at Best Buy I didn't really find anything. I saw the Psych and Burn Notice DVDs though, but the Psych ones were overpriced (almost $50! :O). So until my dad came and found me, I just played Mario Kart Wii. :P That store needs to swap out the game in their DS Lite though, because I noticed it today, and it was still Pokémon Mystery Dungeon 2. O_o; I wonder if it's the full version or the demo version though, because when PMD1 came out, they had a demo version in a GBA SP (I don't know if they had one in their DS or not), but I don't know if a demo was ever made for PMD2.

At Target, I was prepared to buy the Psych DVDs because I heard some people over at [info]psych_tv saying that they were selling it for $35.99, which is a good price since season 1 used to cost that much before the prices went up. However, it cost $39.99, so I was a little iffy about getting it. It's cheaper than Amazon.com's price, but I feel like I could probably come across a better deal if I try looking for one. So instead, I bought the DVD for The Rise of Darkrai. But I probably won't watch it for quite some time though because I still haven't bought the Manaphy movie yet, and the store doesn't seem to sell it anymore. ^^; But I did just download a sub for the Manaphy movie the other day, so I guess I could watch that and then move onto the Darkrai movie once I've seen more of the Diamond and Pearl series so that I know what the heck is going on.

See ya! ;)

Did You Ever Rent From Gas Stations?

I was just reading about how in 7-Elevens in Japan, they rent DVDs and video games. They made it sound like this is an innovation, but to me it's something old that I remember growing up...except when I brought it up in conversation once with some friends online, they were like "I don't remember gas stations ever doing that."

Mind you, there aren't many 7-Elevens in the midwest...these were chains like SA (SuperAmerica) and Quik Trip and such. I forget when our first video rental store first popped up here (we didn't have a Blockbuster until the mid to late 90's, but this smaller chain still exists), but when it did, the local gas stations had already been renting videos for some time. And what I remember most is, when the NES came out and was this new big thing, they not only had NES titles for rent, but you could event rent a system from them to play on.

I think we might've rented the system a whole once, and around 1987 our parents bought one (partly so they could play Mario Bros. and such after we'd gone to bed ;-)). But I remember we often rented Double Dragon and later Mario Bros. 3 from one of the local gas stations. SA stopped carrying games fairly quickly, I think when the a video rental store finally popped up, but this other gas station continued carrying games up until we got a Blockbuster...I remember their vast selection of Sega Genesis and Super Nintendo games.

Did anybody else have gas stations that carried movies and/or games in the late 80's/early 90's, or is my hometown a complete anomaly?

Asthma study results

So tonight is my friend Robyn's bday : ).  We're all meeting at Carrabas for some tasty dinner and fun.

Went to an asthma study this past thursday - 2 hours and I get paid $100, woohoo!  It was more interesting than I anticpated, but I wasn't really sure what I was expecting, besides that there would be a group of asmatics and we would be discussing something involving dry-powder (ad-vair,, etc) type medicine delivery systems.  I showed up early (first even) signed up and flipped through an interesting design flip-book schematic for some sort of giant ventilator machine.  Last chick arrived a few minutes late and we all went down stairs to a smallish conference room with two cameras and a mirrored (two way) wall.  There were 2 kids, 8? and 11 and their dad and mom respectively- though the parents were not in the study, a teenage girl - 17, who forgot all her medication, a sort of older  hyper woman who didn't strike me as particularly bright and another older guy about the same age of the guy running the conference/panel whatever it was.  We went around and gave first names, what we were taking, how often, etc.  We had a lot of discussion on pressurized vs dry powder, and why pretty much everyone hates the standard alburerol device.  3 other people had ad-vairs, and one this other long-acting drug I hadn't seen before.

After about an hour of q/a amonst ourselves, we were taken away to individual rooms to look at a 'prototype' design which we were to comment on, and bring it back in an envelope but not show it to the other people or discuss it until everyone else got back.  The models I looked at were both very ad-vair like, the only different being the mouthpiece - normal or long and protruded.  We turned out to be a pretty talkative group, with not much direction from the mediator guy unless he was asking specific questions.  Turns out everyone got the same model, and had their comments recorded privately - people took them out of the evelopes when everyone came back.  The last thing of the meeting was to take a few minutes and sketch a design for what they'd like to see in a round dry-powder delivery device.  I had an idea, and asked later if they needed 3D artists to model their products, but they seem to mostly outsource to a specific company.  The real ding came right after that, when half the people were already gone, I asked 'this isn't about a complete design at all, is it - it's reaction to the normal vs. long mouthpiece, isn't it?" I got a pleased look and a nod and talked with the people running the study.

Anyway, it was actually pretty fun, and gave me an idea for an albuterol dispenser, but I don't know what to do with said idea.
