AboutWelcome to the Whumper's Guide, the community dedicated to helping writers abuse.. er uh... show the more human, vulnerable side of their characters :D.
Just what is whump, anyway? Whump is the term used when describing/discussing the injury, torture, abuse, etc. of a character in a book, show or movie. Bascially, when a character gets hurt, we call that whump. A whumper is someone who enjoyes seeing a favorite character whumped, or whumping a character of their own creation or in fanfiction. As for why whumpers whump... well, you'd have to ask them, for we all have different reasons for why we do it :D.
The Whumper's Guide is a place for whumpers to do their homework and share information. Let's say you're researching gunshot wounds and come across several excellent articles on removing bullets from the body and want to share those articles. Then the Whumper's guide is the place to post the links.
Let's say you have a question about gun-shot wounds, then the WG is the place to ask.
If you're a medical professional tired of people treating concussions like mild headaches, then feel free to let others know with a post on concussions and what they're really like. Or maybe your profession lies elsewhere (such as genetics) and you know a few things that might give whumpers into Sci-fi some ideas.
Whumper's guide, however, is neither a place to post stories nor recommend them. Discussing whump is permitted, but must serve - I suppose you could say - an educational purpose. For example: A disucssion on how awesome whump is - not permitted. A discussion on the best way to handle an infirmary/hospital scene, or on medical jargon: when to use a lot, when to use a little, or when not to use it at all - permitted. A rant post on people always injuring a character in the leg, and wishing they would do more arm injuries - not permitted. You read a story where a group is injured, and you are annoyed by the one least-injured member of the group being hustled off to eat and shower without ever being checked over just because that member said they were fine. You want to know if that's something medical professionals actually do or if it's an error on the writer's part, so you ask - permitted. Basically, if we can learn something from it or correct a rather popular error, then it's permitted.
Also permitted is information on weapons, weapon types, etc since they do inflict damage. Just make sure to talk about that damage in the post.
