Who ever heard of monsters playing fair?

As the humans begin to gather in the bloody streets of Time Square to count down to the new year of 2050, they also celebrate the final end of their third world war. They strap on festive hats as the last of the corpses are cleaned off the massacred streets of New York City. As the never-ending numbers of body bags are loaded onto the trucks, some of the workers look up, wiping their sweaty foreheads. The eerie dark sky looms over them, a sheet of gray smog blocking all light. As the clock counts down, they gather together with tears of joy rolling down their filthy cheeks. Little do they know the monsters await in the darkness … Vampires, Werewolves, everything, gathering countless numbers … counting down to the beginning of the end. A new war. A war of monsters.

cult_movie is a community for those who love cult movies – anything from 1940s B-movies to David Lynch, from 1950s schlock sci-fi to Russ Meyer, from Jess Franco’s horror films to Andy Warhol’s underground movies, from German horror movies of the 1920s to contemporary indie films, from 1970s lesbian vampire flicks to Ed Wood, from movies by independent film-makers like Derek Jarman to Harold and Maude, from 50s camp classics like The Bad Seed to 80s camp classics like The Lair of the White Worm, from 50s juvenile delinquent movies to 60s and 70s Eurotrash, from arthouse classics to drive-in classics. In fact we discuss pretty much anything that can be considered a cult movie. The only things we don’t discuss are slasher movies, modern horror gorefests and similar stuff. Gotham had been at war for years over the presence of the Batman. Speculations of where he had come from, who he was, and how he got to Gotham in the first place plagued civilians and villains alike. Perhaps they were lucky, like Metropolis, to have someone dedicated just to them, to take care of them, and ensure their safety. Maybe, in the after affects of the chemical attack on a neighbouring city called Blüdhaven, a new hero was spawned. The stories were endless, but only Bruce Wayne had the real answers. There had always been unrest in Gotham, even with the Batman, some arguing that he was a vigilante, sick and tired of being bullied by those lurking in the shadows of Gotham, others pegging him a masked menace.

Harvey Dent, meanwhile, the youngest man ever in Gotham to run for District Attorney at the tender age of twenty five is the new face of rescue and hope. A man not afraid to show his face and not hide behind a mask, one that thinks that Batman could be the best way to catch the kind of villains Harvey can’t understand. But he’s also interested in having the Batman, to take him into custody and charge him, and show Gotham who he really is. Give them their masked menace, even though he believed in the Bat’s vigilantism.

It’s really too bad that the citizens of Gotham seem to have sided with all the villains, all wanting to capture the Batman and know who this caped crusader is once and for all, but some, like Commissoner James Gorden still believe in the Bat. Some, like him, notice that Batman hasn’t been around much lately. Letting Harvey Dent do all the work that he couldn’t possibly do alone. Has Batman been killed, or is he quietly sitting back, waiting for Gotham to fall into disarray until he comes to save them? What if Batman decides, Gotham has had enough saving, and it was time for the city to fight alone with their White Knight, against menacing forces they never thought imaginable?

"Batman's Gotham City is Manhattan below Fourteenth Street at eleven minutes past midnight on the coldest night in November." So what is Gotham like, without their caped crusader?

strange_tears is a community for those interested in 19th century movements in art and literature such as Symbolism, Pre-Raphaelitism, Aestheticism, Decadence and the Gothic. We talk about most 19th century art with the exception of the Impressionists. We talk about 19th century writers such as Swinburne, Baudelaire, Rimbaud, Symons and Oscar Wilde, and artists such as Rossetti, Holman Hunt, Waterhouse, Burne-Jones, Moreau, Gustav Klimt, Paul Gauguin, Carlos Schwabe, Fernand Khnopff and Lucien Levy-Dhurmer.

We also discuss related topics such as Victorian attitudes towards homosexuality, women in Victorian society and in Victorian art and literature, and the dandy.

Honey Bees and Honey Pots

Due my being really bored I decided to make a community, It is basically going to be for people to make friends, share photos, ideas, what they have been doing, get advice etc. Pretty much what you might put in your own journal but for more people to see, well if you wish. I am going to make a closed community soon as I think it would be nice to have a community which only has limited members so people can get to know each other better.

This is a group that started with a few close friends. We found that it was a great way to catch up with one another, tell jokes, secrets, share music, basically have a way to come together and just drop your guard and express yourself.

* Music Monday, are a time when you can share a video or lyrics to your favorite music. It can be something you wrote or from any artist. Explain maybe why you like it or if it has a special meaning or memory tied to it.

* Orgasmic Tuesday, it's basically an excuse to have sex and you can share this experience, tell a sex story from your present or past, (please use only the first letter of any other person that's not you)maybe something embarrassing you experienced, any reationship issues or any questions about sex are welcomed.

* Sarcastic Wednesday, came about from seeing an ecard by hoops and yo yo. It's encouraged to be sarcastic with others and see if you can get away with it. This isn't a time to be rude to other members but rather share sarcastic jokes, icons things of that nature.

* Just Thursday, is a day you can unload anything on your mind. Whatever is going on in your life. Post pictures of a recent trip you made or of your pets. Basically share your life with the group. We're here to listen and give any advice and support if that's what you need.

* Reality Check Friday, Everyone needs a good friendly reality check. Maybe you're not doing something you should be or have put something off. Share it and we'll be the ones to give you that extra push.

* Artist Saturday, you might write stories or poems. You can share books you enjoyed and think other might benefit from reading. Or if you like to draw feel free to post your art work. Photography of any kind is welcome. If the post is very long all that I ask is that you use an LJ cut. If you post published work I ask that you credit who originally created the work.

* Secret Sunday, is a take off of Post Secret. You can write your secrets out or use a picture to write your secret on. This is a closed community so please be sensitive to others. We won't tell, your secrets are safe with us.

At Temple Academy, we welcome teenagers from all backgrounds. This is not a traditional boarding school; the students are not sent here for behavioral issues. We are one of the best educational institutions in North America and strive to keep it that way. Teachers and students are held to the highest level of decency, as strong morals and values are of the utmost importance at Temple Academy. Make yourself home here in our school. We accept anyone from all over the world, from ages fourteen to nineteen to come study here at Temple Academy.

We also welcome different teachers to join in on our ranks. Teachers must apply and be over the age of twenty-two and have a degree in a specific field, such as science or history. Here at Temple, we already have the works ie: Art, History, Psychology, Foreign Languages, Music, PE, English, Science, Math and Home Economics and we are very welcome to more and different things that may be out there.

Grades are always important and we wish to have each and every student who attends here achieve the most they can from our institution, we strive for excellence. Teachers are expected to assign homework weekly and to help the student achieve the best that they can.

Housing:

Students are welcome to having the option of having a single depending on their state. Upperclassmen/women have the first option at a single dorm room and will be able to contact the headmaster, beforehand if interested. Our single roomed bedrooms have a double bed, closet, bathroom, window, night table, bureau, internet connections and a phone line.

We offer a two bedroom dorm room for our students; each room will have a bathroom, two normal sized closets, a bunk bed that can be changed into two twin sized beds if taken apart, a window, night table, internet connections, and phone lines. In some rooms, our students will have two bureaus instead of two separate closets.

Teachers are assigned apartments to live in while on campus. After having been in position for an amount of time, they will be given the option to move to a house on or off campus.

vintage_crime is a new Live Journal community, for discussion of all crime fiction written up to around the 1950s. So it will include the Sherlock Holmes stories, but also other mysteries from the same era, in addition to the novels of the so-called golden age of the English detective novel – writers such as Dorothy L. Sayers, Margery Allingham and Agatha Christie. We will also be discussing the American hardboiled school (Chandler, Hammett, Cain, etc), and other British writers like Graham Greene, Eric Ambler and John Buchan.

A community for Cult TV - cult_tv_lounge. The Swinging 60s brought revolutions in music and fashion, and also television. The place to be in the Swinging 60s was London, and British TV found itself at the cutting edge of television, with programs like Danger Man, The Prisoner and The Avengers. Cool and sexy, and unlike anything that had gone before. Science fiction arrived on TV with Dr Who, while even the kids’ shows were cool – series like Stingray, Thunderbirds and Captain Scarlet. As the 60s gave way to the 70s, the mood got darker and grittier, with spy series like Callan and cop shows like The Sweeney. The science fiction had a darker edge as well, with Blakes 7 and UFO. But the coolness remained.

The Limitless Fortress is of disused, condemned buildings that have, through chance or design, clustered together to form a self-contained habitat. Many smaller buildings surround its ground level, serving as the entrance to the fortress, while the core is formed of one especially tall tower only to have construction abandoned mid-way. The remains came to be populated by beings from all walks of life, including one of the men responsible for its construction. The Fortress was soon subdivided into three specific tiers– Lower Town, the Beltline and the enigmatic Babylon City.

+ Lower Town is self-explanatory. It is the lowest portion of the fortress, with several layers extending below ground level. Accounts state various numbers from thousands to millions of societies lost their privileges to homes or businesses, those who have come to Limitless Fortress because they have nowhere else to go. Consequently, with many clashing independent personalities populating it, Lower Town proves to be a chaotic place – a situation not improved by constant attacks from the inhabitants of the middle level, the Beltline, whose monstrous, murderous inhabitants terrorize Lower Town. From the mayhem, gangs emerge to bring some semblance of control.

+ The Beltline is the ‘waistline’, the middle level and the most dangerous area of the Limitless Fortress, the citizens of the Beltline are said to be immortal and imperishable, and they 'will rise back from the dead every time they are attacked'. Every single person from the Beltline has a hideous death-like appearance and a frightening strength, many question if anyone from the Beltline are even human at all. A unique feature of the Beltline is that the area is relatively unstable. This is where suicides are often committed. Human bones and corpses litter its very floor and every step you take will most likely lead you to a death trap.

+ Babylon City is the highest floor no resident from Lower Town or the Beltline has seen. Rumor has it that anyone in Lower Town are all subject to the controlling whims of the mysterious entity known as the “Gods of the Limitless Fortress,” whom dwells within the highest level of the fortress, Babylon City, and controls all that goes on within it. The “Gods of the Limitless Fortress” are mostly made up of powerful individuals, scientists, engineers, artists, politicians, patrons, and super-normal beings - which created the Limitless Fortress as an experimental site where any infinite number of ideas that could be conceived and tested!

The City of Gotham. Eleven minutes past midnight on the coldest night in November.

This is where good meets evil. It’s a thriving metropolis by day, carrying successful investors, lawyers and business men to the very peak of their careers and holding them there like they are atop a pedestal. Shoppers and day-tourists from neighboring cities visit and stroll the magnificent streets, throwing their money at the highest designer bidder. The harbor is bustling with shipments coming in to stock the numerous warehouses along shore side with goods, small shops set up selling the freshest seafood this side of the Atlantic.

But by night, that’s when you do not want to be caught roaming the streets. At night is when all the characters come out; when the streets are dark and the air is frigid. When the screams and gunshots start. When hitmen go on the prowl and when innocents loose their way. If you mind your own business, there’s a world of happiness for you here in the City of Gotham, but if you’re in it to cause trouble, trouble is what you will find.

Here in the City of Gotham, hopes and dreams can flourish; if you need to get rid of someone there’s always an ex-KGB operative willing to take the job. Caught with your pants down? Judges love to take bribes. Need a fix? There’s always a Candyman on the corner. And why can you hear the cries from the insane asylum all the way from West 31st Street? Where are the heroes? Are they hiding? Have they fled? Where are the miracles? This is the City of Gotham, the drug to your disease, the bullet to your pistol. You need it, as much as it needs you.

(This is not a Batman RPG. The City name just happens to be the same.)

movie_greats is a totally new community for discussing movies made up to the end of the 1970s. We discuss all types of movies from that era, and not just Hollywood movies. From Billy Wilder to Polanski, from Busby Berkeley to Hitchcock, from Cecil B. de Mille to Stanley Kubrick. Plus all the stars – Garbo, Cagney, Cary Grant, Katharine Hepburn, Louise Brooks, Audrey Hepburn, Bogart, Harlow, Brando, James Dean, Elizabeth Taylor, Sean Connery, etc. We talk about musicals, crime movies, film noir, screwball comedies, French New Wave, British movies, Italian movies, science fiction movies, anything made before the end of the 1970s. We’ll be doing some in-depth discussions, and we’ll be having lots of fun. Even the occasional movie quiz.
