    Before You Dive...
...take a deep breath and look around. With the Mage portions of Chicago now on the top of the heap, I'm taking a short moment to check in with you all before I sink like a battleship down to Atlantis.

Week before last I was in Chicago, my beloved Chicago, meeting Camarilla members at the NEGLECt show and playing games with a cigar-smoking mermaid at the distinctive Purple Hotel, which turns out to be distinctive for reasons beyond color. A lot of that week was spent doing research on Chicagoes both new and old for the benefit of the aforementioned Chicago book, by which I mean eating a lot of char-dogs and red meat. (Good lord, how I miss living in a city with a Chinatown.) In the process, I accidentally bought a dozen used books for preliminary research on next year's Vampire supplements, without thinking about how I would get them in my luggage and back to Atlanta. For the record, you're apparently not allowed to check baggage if it weighs 65 pounds. Make a note of it.

Returning back in the New South, I come to work to find a copy of Ordo Dracul on my desk, much as I'd hoped. My apologies again to all of the Cammies who thought we might have copies at the show for them. I'm told we'll have them at Origins. Meanwhile, I've been getting jealous over Ethan's latest Werewolf book, Predators, which is good only if you like really creepy supernatural creatures for every occasion and crow-men with stolen severed heads. I happen to.

This dude's not Dracula. He just really wishes he was.

Today I got to paw through Pauline's initial layout of VII, which looks so rad I'm thinking about changing the name of that book to VII, You Sons of Bitches! and take a breath after sending Invictus off for its editing. Now, with that breath taken, I'm off to check in with the Carthians authors, who are in that great stage when molten ideas a dripping out of the taps we stuck in their brains. Tonight, I finally get to return to my own damn Vampire chronicle after weeks of convention preemptions and running one-shots at shows. It's about time.

    Peace out, kids.

How's the Mage corebook coming along, if I may ask?

Also, I can't wait for Invictus and Predators.

    Oh yes.

This sounds exceeding entertaining. I happen to like these things as well.

I'm thinking about changing the name of that book to VII, You Sons of Bitches!

I'd buy a book with that title.

    Re: Oh yes.

    As would I.

I'm really looking forward to the VII book. I admit I love the open-ended concept on how to handle VII, right down to having a book that simply provides options on how to run/play them rather than "Here's the secret organization that all of your players will want to be members of now." I've got ideas of my own for how I'd deal with VII in a chronicle of my own, I still want to see what's going to be in the book.

Ordo Dracul. It must be mine!
    VII. It must be mine!
Predators... just sounds interesting. Don't tease us!

I love the cover to Ordo Dracul. Nice.

You're one of the few; most people think it's cheesy as hell.

I kinda don't care, myself; it doesn't seem all that relevent to what I assume the contents of the book are, but I'm more interested in what's inside anyway.
    eryx_uk From: [info]eryx_uk Date: June 14th, 2005 03:38 am (UTC) (Link)
It is cheese and not really in fitting with the Ordo Dracul, but you can't say its bad artwork.

*cough*99% of the artwork associated with Hunter*cough*

Hunter? The Reckoning? Don't know it. Never cared about it. :)

    Your loss.

Its pefect for the Dracul - just the right balance of Vlad and Vlaaa!
    pope_guilty From: [info]pope_guilty Date: June 14th, 2005 09:17 am (UTC) (Link)
Perfect? It's terrible. It's unnecessarily cheesy and communicates nothing about the content of the book. I mean, if it were for a Vampire: the Requiem update of Wraith's Love Beyond Death, or perhaps a book covering that as part of a greater context of a book about maintaining a mortal identity/ managing relations with mortals, which would seriously rock many kinds of ass and plug a large hole left over from the days of Masquerade, then cool. But for Ordo Dracul? It's stupid, cheesy, and pointless.
anightgirl From: [info]anightgirl Date: June 14th, 2005 01:10 pm (UTC) (Link)
Have to agree total cheese. Hollywood vamp dumped onto the cover of what I'm hoping will be a rocking LARP book. I say change it. Get something more ordo dracul-ish not Bela Lugosi Dracula-ish. Yuck.
    innocent_man From: [info]innocent_man Date: June 14th, 2005 01:28 pm (UTC) (Link)
You can't see the cover when the book's open in front of you. Chill.
anightgirl From: [info]anightgirl Date: June 14th, 2005 01:53 pm (UTC) (Link)
Hey man, just voicing my opinion like everyone else. Chill. Just cause I don't like the cover doesn't mean I won't like the book when I read it.

I know the book will be good and can't wait to see what's been done with the Dracul line.
    innocent_man From: [info]innocent_man Date: June 14th, 2005 03:36 pm (UTC) (Link)
Wasn't talking to you, actually, I was talking to [info]pope_guilty. No worries.

And I don't much like the cover, either, FTR. I'm hoping the internal artwork is better. Dragolescu bloodline especially, 'cause, y'know. They're my boyz.

Ah, okay, sorry man, posted directly under mine so I guess I read wrong.

From: [info]uomouniversale Date: June 14th, 2005 03:19 pm (UTC) (Link)
Gotta disagree - I'm still a fan of Tomb of Dracula over Blade, I like my old world vampires in Tuxes with suggestive malice rather than inhuman monsters who look like the bastard offspring of the Alien Queen and the Predators ugly nerd brother. Are you saying that if you had a Spike-type Gangrel on the cover of the Carthians, would you object?
    pope_guilty From: [info]pope_guilty Date: June 14th, 2005 05:17 pm (UTC) (Link)
Depends on if the context of the picture is related to the aubjet matter.

I'm not objecting to the Old World types- I'm objecting to the fact that the cover is almost completely disconnected from the book.
heatherrae From: [info]heatherrae Date: June 14th, 2005 12:53 am (UTC) (Link)
Ah, yes, the Purple Hotel. That hotel was special, wasn't it? But hey - at least we got to see Charles Bailey in a dress and the Cammies pulled together and proved once and for all that we are not scarier than the "normal" people of the world.

    Or something.

Hmm. *hides the Ordo Dracul book from local players* No! Cheese! Meep!

NEED CIRCLE BOOK, WHY MUST THE GROUP WITH BLOOD MAGIC BE LAST. Grrr.....
zincoxide From: [info]zincoxide Date: June 20th, 2005 07:20 am (UTC) (Link)
I like how Dracula is considered "off the subject matter" for the Ordo Dracul.

Anyway...I got to Neglect late, after much gnashing and wailing of teeth over whether I could afford it, so I didn't get the chance to find Will and, like, tell him about my character and pitch my submission for the next Bloodlines book (they're like Assamites, but they have a discipline like Vicissitude; how's that for awesomeness?) and threaten to boycott if Loki doesn't get a fair shake in the Circle of the Crone book. I guess I'll just have to use the Internet as God intended.

Anyway, that's a holy fuckload of books on their way out, so I need to go find a second job so i can hire someone to read them all for me.

What about a White Wolf World of Darkness MMORPG? I think it's a really great idea! C'mon guys, at least discuss the idea of licensing it amongst yourselves! There's been a TV show, two computer games, a few card games, and a really great set of paper and pen roleplaying game books!

If I'm wrong that there were really a set of roleplaying game books set in the World of Darkness, please let me know! I am very serious about how perfectly COOL a White Wolf World of Darkness MMORPG would be!

Of course, you could always go Arthaus and release a World of Warcraft MMORPG based on the pen and paper game you guys are making... that would be so totally unexpected!
