    IPDD Meeting, Again
Another Monday, another IPDD meeting. As always, we're taking turns sounding off about what we're all working on this week. We do this every week, but the last couple of weeks it's been fun because Rich has been out on his first vacation in 13 years, so the duty of tracking everybody's answers has been divided among the most responsible members of the department. Aaron is keeping everybody honest right now, and good for all of us.

Pauline's working on a Vampire project that is a) not a book and b) not yet announced. I'm working on the early phases of a new book, tentatively being called "Damned City," but that name won't stick and I won't tell you any more about it.

John (Chambers) has a million Exalted books in the air. Scroll of the Monk, for example, has just gone off to editing. Brian (aka "Mr. Glass") is back to art directing Exalted stuff, like "the Blessed Isle book." He and his broken back are back on the clock this week. He's walking around the offie with a cane that, shamefully, has neither a wolf's head nor a human skull on it. Nor is it made of glass.

John (Masterson) is still following in John's (Chambers) footsteps, learning some of the development ropes and getting up to speed on some Mage outlines for future books. [Note: That was your token attribution as "John," sir. From now on, it's all Bax, all the time, Bax.]

Ethan says, "I'll probably do some drinking tonight." We got in our advance copies of World of Darkness: Skinchangers last week, by the way. Great book, if you liked Antagonists or Second Sight, in my opinion.

Aileen is working on the next Lodges book and the Werewolf title, which I think is called War With the Pure, but that title may be out of date now. She's almost ahead of schedule and, thus, making all the rest of us look bad.

(By the way, has anyone who bought Second Sight and/or reviewed it on our forums read the first chapter or the appendix of that book? "Nobody ever reads my stuff," Will said, pouting like a jackass.)

matt says, "[Undisclosed book] was supposed to go to press on 2/1!"

Chaney says, "No, those are the odds that the book'll get out at all."

Bill's trying to get Legacies: The Ancient done so that he can get back to all of the meetings that seem to occupy his time these days. We're trying to schedule our next giant meeting for The Fifth Game, and since those meetings eat up whole days they really change our weekly schedules.

Training Bax, we'll hope, doesn't take up too much of Bill's time this week.

Chaney's working on World of Warcraft stuff galore, such as Bones of Ironforge.

matt's working on the Promethean character sheet pad and a myriad of Mage covers right now. With the time crunch to get Promethean out the door for Gen Con, matt's been pretty overworked these past few weeks. Next week he gets to balance it out with his much-deserved vacation.

And, suddenly, the meeting's done and we're back to work. Now go play.

Is there a chance we could get a rough idea when this will be available? Not looking for a hard and fast date, but like early next year?

Has anyone said anything about moving it to next year? The Storyteller's Companion lists it as one of the books that is supposed to be available in 2006. Since it looks like they're releasing them every 2 months or so, I'd say we'll probably see it in December.

Man, can't get no love. There are Promethean sourcebooks in development, too. ;)

It's a blurb about the meeting, not about books in development. When you start attending meetings, you'll be included. Besides, you get podcast interviews and forum fandom to keep you warm.

    'twas me, by the way.

Yeah, figured that. Hmm. I guess if it's a choice between not getting mentions and having to attend meetings, I'll keep my podcasts and forums and avoid the meetings. :)

Haven't got that far in "Second Sight" yet -- crazy end of the semester. I'll pay special attention to that chapter when I get there. ;)
wordwill From: [info]wordwill Date: May 22nd, 2006 05:19 pm (UTC) (Link)
By "that far" do you mean you haven't touched the book at all (and so haven't read any of the first 25 pages) or that you started with the good stuff and haven't gotten around to the drier chapters?

I put this question out to any Second Sight readers, not just because I'm a desperate needy writer (though I am and we all are) but becuase I'm genuinely curious to know how y'all dip into a book like Second Sight when you get it.

    So, how do you read?
netbard From: [info]netbard Date: May 22nd, 2006 05:38 pm (UTC) (Link)
Well, I haven't got Second Sight yet, and may not for a while. How I read a sourcebook, though, depends on the sourcebook and why I'm reading it.

    (A) If its a core book, I'm going to try to read it all the way through if the game really interests me. Generally, though, I only skim powers - its impossible to keep them all in my head on the first read anyways, and reading them thoroughly will bore me.

    (B) If its a core book that I'm playing just to play a game (such as if its what all my friends are reading), then I'll read the setting material, the write-ups for the creature type I'm playing, some of the powers that creature type has, and skim the rules. Later on I might do (A) if the game interests me more.

    (C) If its a sourcebook of rules (weapon list after weapon list, or something like that) then I may just skim it. The same if its a book that my players are begging to get stuff out of and is already sanctioned (The later only matters for my Camarilla sanctioned game).

    (D) Other than that, I try to read all my sourcebooks, to get as good a feel for the world as I can.
kutay From: [info]kutay Date: May 22nd, 2006 05:39 pm (UTC) (Link)
I read start to finish 'cause I figure you guys set the book up that way for a reason. =) So not that far means I've got from the beginning to a few pages into chapter 3.

Oops, which means I misread the line above. I read it as first chapter OF the appendix.

To me, the beginning of the book is probably one of the most interesting bits -- we get a story to set the mood, the purpose of the book and philosophizing on the content and stories that can be told. All the later rules and such are more alive because of that.

    second sight

Hey i really liked second sight, within a week of buying it just to have a "little look" i have ended up useing the book to generate a hi powered pyromancer for a mortal game set in Birmingham United kingdom based on the british tv show ultra violet from many moons ago. any way, i really liked the short story at the front and i do honestly buy white wolf books for the background information and "fluff" more than the rules.

Unless its a really dirty vampir character that is for my local Requiem MET game.

    Regards and happy gaming

    I liked it.

I first went throught the psychics section because I was curious how it would be done. Then I read through it front to back. I feel that it could almost be a game unto itself. It definitly captures its own mood and environment.

I do feel though that I have very little use for it in Vampire, Werewolf or Mage.

But definitly a good book, better than Antagonists (sorry Matt) and as good as Predators.

    Damned City? HHmmm....

Now seriously, is there any chance of The Testiment of Longinus ever being produced?
kittenmorag From: [info]kittenmorag Date: May 22nd, 2006 11:13 pm (UTC) (Link)
That would be the serious awesome.

Meanwhile... War with the Pure? Please say that's a Pure book, much like Blasphemies was the Bale Hound book.

    *bounces and gets excited*

    =^..^=
kittenmorag From: [info]kittenmorag Date: May 22nd, 2006 11:32 pm (UTC) (Link)
Or it could just be that it's a work of fiction, and I could be dumb

Well actually, Blasphemies was a little more than just the Bale Hound book :-)

Anyway, we know that a big book on the Pure is coming, as it has been confirmed.
kittenmorag From: [info]kittenmorag Date: May 23rd, 2006 04:26 pm (UTC) (Link)
Just as I hope the Pure book is more than just about the Pure. Blasphemies blew me away, as has the quality of work on all of the Forsaken source stuff.

    Mmmmm, Pure Book. *dreams happily*

I won the early copy of Mythologies at the UK National. I've spotted a couple of typos... Has it finally gone to the printers, or would you like the list?

    :)
wordwill From: [info]wordwill Date: May 24th, 2006 02:31 pm (UTC) (Link)
The book went to press months ago. I've had my copy for weeks, and it's been in the warehouse for a bit, too. So it's too late for that.

Every book in the universe has typos in it.
bringeroflight From: [info]bringeroflight Date: May 24th, 2006 02:36 pm (UTC) (Link)
I know that, I work in printing myself... But I thought if it hadn't gone, it'd be helpful.

It's a very, very nice book, BTW. :)

*Covet, covet, covet* Any idea on when authors will get their copies?
wordwill From: [info]wordwill Date: May 24th, 2006 02:30 pm (UTC) (Link)
It's usually several weeks between the 4-6 advanced copies we get and the full-on truckload of books we get into the warehouse. Add on processing time in our warehouse, filing time for the shipping orders to authors, mail shenanigans and actual shipping time to you, and I imagine that authors will get their copies about 2-3 weeks later than I think would be safe to promise, and so I won't.

Ah. Bummer. I'm doing an interview with Gamestas.net on the 2nd and they wanted to talk about Skinchangers. I've got the working copies, but would have loved to be able to brag up the artwork, etc.
