Fabric Swap: Lawrence, KS
When: March 23rd, from approximately 1pm to 5pm (Easter)

Where: Kate's house in Lawrence, KS. I'm not posting the address
publicly, so if you want to come, please email me at sherwood21 at
gmail dot com, and I'll send you the address as well as directions.

ALL are welcome - there will be fabric for trade, for sale super
cheap, and for FREE, as this was set up to help some of us
seamstresses clean out our fabric stashes.

If you want to bring fabric to trade, sell, or give away, please read
this next part.

If it's lengths, please tag it with your name, as well as the length
and width of the piece to help prevent confusion.

We plan to have two categories of stuff - stuff that is free, and
stuff that is for sale/trade.

Anyone who wants to participate may bring stuff for sale/trade AND/OR
stuff to give away. I would suggest bringing a card table or arranging
how you want to set your stuff out. We'll have a couple tables, but
not necessarily enough for everyone.

Anyone is welcome to any of the free stuff. Any of the free stuff
that's left over will be sorted into fabrics, patterns, and notions,
and go to a friend's school for their home ec department. Scraps will
be donated somewhere - there are a lot of options there, like the
senior center here, and the arts center.

Susi brought a spreadsheet when she brought fabric to the costuming
workshop, noting down who got what, to keep track of her own
inventory. Thought it was a cool idea, and something to suggest for
helping keep track of what's yours and sold to whom.

I certainly hope to see some of you there!

Kate

Interesting paper found...
Here...
http://www.renfaire.com/History/Elizabeth.html

...is a most interesting paper I found on-line detailing the daily life of Queen Elizabeth; how her household ran in very great detail, right down to the departments of the house, what everyone was paid and who did what. Gives very great detail to matters that are rarely considered.

Fascinating stuff. Also sounds as if the whole thing was a right bloody mess. No wonder she went on progress so often, more than just the condition of the privies, I'm sure!

Here's another one:
On addresses and how to sort out what titles to use; other good links at the end of the document.

Little green growing things
The Whitehart grounds needs some pretties! As in flowers and plants. I personally want a rose garden because my character is obsessed with them. But the grounds could also use several other small gardens planted about. Herbs and flowers and vegetables, its a village after all!. The ticket booth and front gates would look lovely with some clematis on it IMO.

In order to have everything blooming and growing well by June we need to get to planning and planting soon! I am wondering who all would like to help me out in this.

As there is little money for improvements it would all have to come out of our own pockets, but seeds don't cost much. However we'd need more then seeds. And people that know what they are doing is the MOST important thing. I can pick my dad's brain from afar but people that can come to the sight and tell what the soil needs and where the best places to plant are very much needed.

But even if you don't know a thing about plants you can still help! It doesn't take much know how to dig a hole and plant something. Or help clear out a patch of brambles and weeds to have a place for a garden.

So if you are interested please email me at Softpaw@softpaw.org

Need a Photo
I'm in email contact with a fella who used to work with Charles out at SoCal and San Diego Faires and need a pic of Charles to send him. I've looked on the web-site and the pictures of last year aren't there and the pic of Charles on the info page is gone. The only pic I find is the wedding one of Charles and Di...what the heck happened to the web-site?

What I'm wanting is the pic of Charles holding Val; can anyone help me?

And then can someone local contact Di about working with the web-site? *coughAdriennecough*?

2008 season
Maud Chandler is going to be vending this season, I've already got it in my book so I don't schedule anything over the top of Faire!

IF my license is back by then, I'd like to have my massage table st up also -- but that means I'd need someone to watch the first booth!  [info]ladybarnard, I think you had asked about that?  Are you booked up yet?

Even if I'm not legal, I'll bring the table for after hours.

I won't be able to make Keltoi (Joplin), though -- classes scheduled those days!  Next year, though, 'k?

Does anyone know where the photos that the gentleman who was all over the place taking them will be posted? I THINK I heard him say he was with Five Rings *the fencers* but I am not fully sure about that.

Renaissance Cruise
Sail on the first annual SeaFaire Cruise, Renaissance
Faire at Sea on Saturday, April 19, 2008. We will be
sailing aboard the brand new Carnival Freedom leaving
from Miami on a 7 night cruise to the Exotic Eastern
Caribbean porting in St. Thomas, San Juan, Grand Turk
and Half Moon Cay, Bahamas.

Craig of Farrington, Wyldefyre and Ivanovich will be
joining us to perform private concerts open only to
our group. We will have an open bar meet and greet,
and other Ren-related activities such as formal garbed
group dinners, songs under the stars, and an open bar
pub sing. We will also be offering group shore
excursions.

As of now the approximate cost for the cruise is:

Inside cabin  $800 per person
Outside cabin $900 per person
Balcony cabin $1100 per person

All accommodations, food, and entertainment is
included in the above price. Also included in the
price is a $50 shipboard credit per cabin, 8 X 10
group photo, commemorative T-shirt, pin and program.

In addition there will be a charge of $70 per person
for tips (for the cruise line-not for us). There is
also optional insurance coverage that can be
purchased.  There are no hidden charges.

We have 24 cabins held at this rate. Believe it or
not, Carnival increased their prices by $100 a person
in just one day. So as of now, we can only guarantee
this rate to first 24 cabins that book. If you know of
anyone who wants to sail with us, they need to get
their deposit in as soon as possible.

Celtic music awards nominations...
Welp, Marc's doing it again. [info]marcgunn who works so tirelessly and wonderfully at marketing Celtic music and musicians, and who puts out wonderful Podcasts of Renaissance Festival music, has announced the nomination process for next year's award process.

http://www.renaissancefestivalmusic.com/awards/

So, go nominate your favorite Renaissance Festival acts and musicians. And yes, I'm cross-posting this. And yes, this is a shameless plug to get you to nominate "Queen's Gambit." Thanks to our many friends, we were in the Top 10 for last year's awards and would absolutely love to repeat that this year!

Go...and then once the nominations are up...go vote!

Thanks muchly!

The pouch I ordered for using at KC is discontinued , it took them ten days to tell me this and so I told them to just refund my money *its this one for the curious*

Can someone recomend to me a good merchant to go to that sells those kinds of pouches so I can get one first thing upon entering the Faire?

Photos and thoughts.
I've got the last weekends photos and my commentary up at last. It starts at http://www.softpaw.org/wh20.html

Small note about my commentary. Its more or less addressed to three different groups at the same time, You all, people on my friends list who haven't been to White hart but know me, and people that don't fall into either of the other two categories.

I'm still messing up names, But I have more down this time!

I somehow managed to take MORE photos this last weekend then the other two combined. Or at least ended up with more pages of them. I'm not sure how I did that.

On the last page I put down some of my thoughts on the faire, I am repeating those behind a cut in this post.

white heart
Two weekends at White Hart
I had a wonderful time. In the traditon of other commedians I will do a "top # List" who knows how long it'll be.

The patron that was "laid out" by the shrew's indifference to his suit. Sure he fell to the ground, but spilled neither of his two beers, he got his last day.

Patrons that read the sign as I flipped it for them and laughed and took pictures, I love it when people get it.

</a></b></a>[info]purpledumbass being an "actor" with approprate hand gestures, and taking all theflack the troupe dishes. Not to mention the hand stands, great audience draw, I'd watch that.

Getting </a></b></a>[info]dwimmerlaik with Tick quotes and water on stage, good times.

Knowing there was a double double cross for the reveal the last day </a></b></a>[info]bungorye and the Lord Mayor and the triumphant return of Mr. Tinkles...

The Fawkes' great part in said reveal and the real nija sheep was cleared of all charges.

</a></b></a>[info]dwimmerlaik & </a></b></a>[info]purpledumbass were a dynamic duo with their geeky fun and reveal frolics. I heard strains of the skulk song as they moved in unison.

Changing up roles on the last day </a></b></a>[info]dwimmerlaik is a mini shrew, look out!

Seeing so many friends just really enjoy a fair, a lot less bitching than I'm used to, (there was some, I was there) all in all, a great faire.

After-Hours sale at WhiteHart
WhiteHart after-hours sale
When I first spoke with Di about vending, we (yes, WE) decided that having some of my usual line out for the patrons might be a little....inappropriate for the area, so the Venus of Willendorf soaps and candles, the Pents, etc are not available during faire hours. (See www.fifthhousecandles.net if you don't know my stuff.)

However, I'm bringing at least one box with me this last weekend.

These will NOT be out for the patrons to see; if any of the entertainers, vendors, or support staff want to examine them and perhaps make a purchase PLEASE do ask me OUTSIDE of gate hours.

Also I'm liable to have another "packing sale" the last two hours before close on Sunday. "If I don't have to pack it, it's MARKED DOWN!" (giggling) Hollering that was fun :)

EDIT: I thought about posting this in the WhiteHart community journal, but didn't want to offend any patrons that might wander by and see it. SO if you know anyone who might be interested and is working there...!!!

2nd Edit: OK, it's posted here anyhow :D BUT it's still after-hours, to keep me out of trouble with Di!

first and second weekend photos
My webserver is up and working again so I can post the link to the photos I took and my commentary.

Please ignore and forgive my bad grammar and lack of knowing names. I'm learning them slowly. Susi has already helped me with some on Live journal. Feel free to tell me what I don't know!

http://www.softpaw.org/wh1.html The first weekend I was just a playtron.

Hello and welcome!
I had no idea so many of you all at White hart had Livejournals! Once I found out I felt we needed a community! So here it is.

I have a ton of photos from this weekend and last. Sadly, my webhost is down for maintenance so I can't post them. I will be sure too when its up.
