Rules, info and plugs for the newbies
For those interested in joining [info]whispering_elm as a player, I ask that you first read the following. Then, either contact me, [info]acielskadi, or post a comment to this thread.


RULES AND INFORMATION


1) The nature of the game(s) in the Whispering Elm (WE) is literature-based, and the only real requirements a person needs to play is a willingness to cooperate, an account of AIM, and a basic grasp of the english language. We don't use sheets, here, nor do most people stopping in even know what the difference between charisma, alignment, and hit points.

2) I, Aciel, am the DM-ish kinda person. Since I'm developing the campaign, and run the game, come to me if there are any problems, or you have questions/suggestions. My email is vermilliondasra@hotmail.com, and my inbox is always open.

3) The game is played in an AIM chatroom during set time-periods during the week. Everyone takes turns posting in the game thread here if/when scheduled, works cooperatively, and follows the outlines for the storyline provided by myself.

4) Because we know that everyone's scedules are different, and you all have things to do in RL, each player is only required to show up for 2 complete game sessions out of every four. This means being in the chatroom, talking to us in Real Time. If this presents a particularly hard problem for anyone... Please inform me, and we'll work around it!

5) As for actual playing, realism and continuity are fairly important. Cooperation is a wonderful thing, and I'll provide the guidance I deem necessary to help move you, or the plot, along. Have no clue what I'm talking about? No worries, mate! You will...

6) Characters are also regulated to some extent by general consensus, and for the sake of everyone's sanity. The following applies without exception:

--each player is limited to two sentient, living, and independent characters. This does not include pets, artifacts, or some kinds of familiars.

--the regular characters may be of almost any common race or species, provided they have flaws, vulnerabilities, mortality, and are of a reasonably low level. Ultra-rare or invulnerable creatures might be a lovely ego boost when they effortlessly conquor three Great Wyrms before breakfast, and call down a firestorm to blast the land by afternoon tea, but it makes for a boring and lousy game. Everyone here is intelligent; use your head.

--Continuing in that vein, each character may (aka, strongly encouraged to!) begin with the weapons and skills that go along with his/her/it's trade, or are carry-overs from another game. Gaining artifacts and learning to cross-craft is all part of the fun!

--all characters require approval by myself before they enter the game. And yes, I can (and often do!) suggest changes to many characters before final approval. Just ask the players if you don't believe me.

6) Now that all my current players are well over the age of 18, we are now no longer accepting applications from minors. This game has entered its third year of play, and has the opportunity to expand further into the higher ratings of adult themes (and not just sexual ones). Hence, kiddies are not welcome. Sorry.
