Frolicon Alert!!

Guys and gals and everyone in between…time is running out to get the super fantastic $40 pregistration rate for Frolicon. In case you’ve forgotten, Frolicon (www.frolicon.com) is an adult oriented (21+) science fiction convention held every year over Easter Weekend (April 9-12, 2009) in Atlanta, GA. Forty dollars gets you four days of fun, play, education and parties.

We will only have this rate until September 2, 2008, so go get online (http://www.frolicon.com/registration2009.html) and get registered. After then, prereg will go up. We will be at DragonCon, in Atlanta, GA over Labor Day weekend outside the Exhibitor’s Hall hamming it up and taking registrations (cash only), but why wait? You know you’ll be broke after Dragon, so do it now!

We’ve made it easier than ever for you to register with Paypal processing and non paypal credit card processing. The earlier you register, the more money you’ll have later to have fun.

With over 1200 attendees in 2008, we were bulging at the seams, so we had to upgrade our space. This year we’ll be at the Sheraton Gateway Atlanta out by the airport, and we have nearly twice the programming space. So you know what that means…over 50 kink track classes, over 40 think track classes and workshops, bigger vendor area, more night time programming in bigger spaces, more gaming, more fun, more parties, more prizes, more costumes, just more EVERYTHING.

Frolicon is a blending of artists, writers, intellectuals, leatherfolk, kinky boys and girls, fetishists of most any type, cosplayers, gamers, roleplayers, swingers, and party people who come together to form a singular convention going experience. We do what no other convention can do…we bring fandom, geekdom and kinkdom together under one roof mixing all of these interests into one BIG celebration.

Ray Castro will be our guest this Saturday at 1763 -

Ray will lead a discussion about using artistic techniques to create the
aesthetics of SM play, followed by a demonstration of how to do so.
Following will be a Q&A/discussion about the commonalities between art and
play. In addition, Ray will have several pieces of his art available for
viewing.

Ray Castro has been an active member of the BDSM/leather community for almost two decades. Over the years, his club affiliations have included North Florida Leather Association, The River City Dungeon Society, Code 12 and the Tridents. A former Florida Drummer (1995) and Mr. Suncoast Eagle (2002), Ray was also the recipient of Pantheon’s (Florida) Regional Award, 2006. In his capacity as official portrait artist for IMsL, International Master and slave, and, previously, for Ms. World Leather and Leather Sir and boy, his work has captured the essence of the individuals chosen to represent their communities.

Ray integrates his identity and career as an artist into his involvement in the leather community in a variety of ways. His community activities have included teaching a variety of classes, with an emphasis on making BDSM a positive energy in a healthy life, as well as mentoring and political/social activism and advocacy. He currently facilitates MAST meetings in Jacksonville, Fl. He has recently launched his newest venture, 8^th Street Art Gallery, in Jacksonville, Florida, which will serve as a showcase for erotic and gay artists.

He holds a degree in fine arts from the New Mexico State University, as well as a commercial art degree from the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale, and has exhibited in galleries as well as museums, in both group and one man shows, in Florida, New York, South America and Denmark. He also has had apprenticeships under several artists including colorist Gilles Patrick Vallet, a student of Dali and Erte, classically trained surrealist Mimi Beoschlager, and New York photo realist, William Thompson. Ray's patron list includes Mick Jagger, Sophia Loren, and the Barnetts. His work has also been published in many magazines, including Design and Home.

Welcome to the summer update for Frolicon, (www.frolicon.com) the adult (21+) science fiction convention held every Easter Weekend (April 9-12, 2009) in Atlanta, GA. Since our frolicking goodness in March 08, a lot of changes have been taking place, and we couldn’t be more excited. Hold on for the ride. This is a long one, but I swear it’ll be worth it in the end.

First, thank you to every single attendee, staffer, performer, instructor and volunteer for making Frolicon better and better every year. We couldn’t do it without your tireless efforts and fabulous energy. Frolicon is what it is because of you!

Next, the website is up and we’re adding new content all the time. Check out the 2008 galleries linked conveniently on the front page! Come back often to keep up with everything that’s going on. Our LiveJournal, Myspace and FetLife account all under the same name, Frolicon, will be kept up to date as well.

We love the Hilton Atlanta NE, and they love us, but it was time to go bigger! And we knew just the place….our new home The Sheraton Gateway Atlanta. That’s right folks, we’re going back to the airport. They’ve wanted us for years and can’t wait to be our new home. We’re nearly doubling our programming space and the sleeping rooms are nothing less than unbelievable. You can reserve your rooms directly online by clicking on the hotel tab at the top of the Frolicon homepage, or you can call them at 866-716-8127. Make sure to ask for the Frolicon room block. Room rates are $99 a night with a $4 a day parking charge. We will have a 7 day cancellation policy as well as a one night stay room deposit 7 days out as well. This hotel is also SMOKE FREE. We just want to keep you informed.

Online pre registration is up and running full steam ahead as well. We have several ways for you to register online now. Just go to the registration tab on the homepage to pre register for 4 days of fun and frolic for only $40. Do it now! Rates go up to $50 after DragonCon.

Speaking of DragonCon…of course we’ll be there outside the Exhibit Hall during the day taking your pre registrations and roaming the halls making mischief during the night.

And a few last notes…if you’d like to volunteer, perform, present or just help out, opportunities are available as well. Our dealer’s room is selling out fast. Hello kitties, puppies, ponies and friends.

Three munches under our belts and counting! It seems the animal role players are really starting to come out. As a puppy player, I was pleased to meet several new pups this time. That was probably helped by the fact that munch was quickly followed by a generous host having us over for a puppy play demo and play party. I had a blast at all of the events in and out of puppy space! :)

There's no party planned for after this next munch. But I still expect there will be plenty of good discussion and good times with ponies, puppies, trainers, and anyone else that can make it.

BOOMER

Boomer is from Atlanta and loves single tails! He once had to enter a 12-step program for people who obsessively bought and threw single tails, but the group got together and decided it was not an obsession but a grace from the heavens, so they disbanded the and started a whip cracking group. All seriousness aside, Boomer does love single tails. He has been throwing them and buying them and playing with them for around 8 years or so and has spent A LOT of time seeking out mentors to learn from. He has had the good fortune to have run into a few great ones who taught him a lot and enjoys passing some of that knowledge.

Boomer has presented workshops and demos to folks at SouthEast LeatherFest, The Boston FetishFair Flea, Atlanta Sadomasochists Society, Augusta Iron Rose, SC LOCK, T3WD of Columbia and Atlanta Youth SM Group (now Atlanta Whippersnappers). He has given many private lessons to individuals from the east coast to the west coast and a few points in between. Boomer is a former member of the Boston Dungeon Society, Atlanta PEP and a member of Tribe, an educational group in Atlanta.

Hi all! I know there has been a definite dry spell of information from Frolicon in the past days. Well, we were plotting and planning and have come up with something we think you're all really going to like!!

But first a PSA for POC (www.playoncon.com). Drive to Birmingham, AL, bring booze and your game crap and help us celebrate some of Frolicon's most faithful and hardest working attendees and staff as they kick off their very first con. It's always fabulous to be at the birth of what will surely grow in to a raging good time!

And, the coolest part...the Frolicon girls aren't sitting a table and they aren't throwing a party. Now don't be all depressed. POC has some amazing parties lined up for sure and we'll be at every single one they'll let us into. This is our VACATION! So, if you've ever wondered what the Frolicon girlies were like on vaca...make sure to be there. We'll be spreading the love and the frolic all weekend long. Of course, we'll have reg forms and the hotel on speed dial to help you reserve your rooms. But if you see us doing too much business, hand us a drink and remind us we're on vacation!!!!!
