Of course, the worst would be all at once...

Last week: Bleach was determined to be the worst of the clean smells.

This is the last of the smell polls. Last week, a bunch of people asked, "why didn't you do [insert smell]?" So I have put those suggestions into this last poll. Eliminations next week, and then the tournaments begin (for real this time). Sorry if you've come up with a great smell that hasn't been seen yet - for now, the smell polls are over. But feel free to make any other smell suggestions, and they may be used as fillers in future years.

And now, some completely random, unrelated smells. Wooooo!

Last Week: Once again, Vomit bested everything by a huge margin. Two more weeks of new polls, remember, and then on to the finals. Sorry about the confusion before.

Last Week: Although many people voiced the opinion that they actually enjoy both smells, Gasoline bested permanent marker.

Also, it turns out I was getting ahead of myself. Turns out, I was supposed to have elimination rounds last week, and then three more weeks of polls. But um, instead, I did a regular poll last week, and elimination this week. So, I guess we'll have two weeks of polls and then an elimination between those two winners? It doesn't really matter, I suppose. But, I've run out of ideas for smells, so if you want more smells please suggest some here. Otherwise, I'll just put some random things in for the next two weeks.

Ok, now that that is out of the way... eliminations!

Last Week: Old ladies wearing too much perfume won by a large margin, though most people seemed to agree that ANYONE wearing too much perfume/aftershave is difficult to deal with.

Here is the last of our smell polls. Starting next week, we'll be doing the elimination rounds followed by the final tournament to determine the worst smell of year 2. For year 3, remember we will be doing death-related polls, so submit any suggestions you might have to the suggestion thread!

Last week: Burning plastic came out ahead, but only by a very small margin. Interestingly, burning rubber and burning plastic were deemed to have very similar smells.

Now on to a very interesting set of smells. These were designed to smell good, but many people complain about them.

Last Week: Wow. I am completely blown away by last week's results. Vomit won by a huge margin -I was NOT expecting that. Oh well, live and learn. It does kind of make me wish I'd remembered to do vomit before though, to get an accurate comparison of people's thougts on cat urine vs. skunk spray. Officially skunk spray was voted worse, but it's only by 2 votes so I'm not sure it's statistically significant because more people voted for vomit than the other two combined.

And now we'll move onto a new, random smells poll. Also, you may notice that the poll last week was #29 and the poll this week is #31. That's because there were two #26 and it was only recently pointed out to me... and now that I'm closing the polls I can't change the poll's name.

Last week: Large quanties of (human) feces moves on to the quarter finals, which are coming up soon! Not entirely sure what the motivators were, aside from poop itself being gross (nevermind the smell) because we only got 18 comments even though almost 300 people voted. Let's have some discussion this week, folks!

And yeah, I know vomit doesn't really fit, but it occurred to me that I had left it out during the bodily odor smells and it kind of has that bitter acidic smell like these other two options have. So... here it is.

Last Week: Two decisions made! First, I will be closing polls from now on since that option is available. Second, bad BO will move on to the elimination rounds!

This will be the last of the "bodily smells" for now - I'm sure there are some we forgot, but remind us of them and perhaps they'll show up in later random polls. Please don't hate me for today's poll. Elimination round next week!

For those of you who are curious - an explanation of the title. When I was a kid, my family and a bunch of other families all used to go trick-or-treating at the old-people's apartment homes. The old people liked it because they got to see the cute little kids in their costumes. The parents liked it because they didn't really have to worry about traffic since it was a community at the end of a dead-end road. The kids liked it because there were a lot of homes, and therefore a lot of candy, within a short walking distance.

However, every single year, one kid - usually around 2-4 years old, and of course a different kid every year - would make a comment at one random house something to the effect of "Mommy, this house smells funny". Really loudly.

Before I move on to this weeks poll, I want to have a random other poll. LJ has now given us the ability to "close" polls, so that the bars still show but no one new can vote. For now, I have just "closed" last weeks poll (Go here to see what I mean) instead of what I usually do, which is copy paste the results, bolding the winner and just deleting the poll (Which can be seen here, in the poll from two weeks ago).

Last Week: Rotting Seafood took a huge lead early and maintained it once again, and so it will move on to the next round!

Now for three (or maybe 4) weeks of ... bodily smells. We'll begin with this one!

Last Week: Rotting seafood bested rotting land meat. The main reason given in the comments was that many people believe seafood smells bad enough when it is FRESH, let alone rotting. So it appears here in our.... ELIMINATION ROUND!

Elimination Round #5
Rotten eggs - 109 (33.0%)
Lingering cigarette smoke - 42 (12.7%)
Rotting seafood - 179 (54.2%)

Questions

Sorry for the delay, folks. Forgot I couldn't post a poll once my paid account lapsed. Didn't want to spend the money because I'm saving up for a trip to Scotland next month, but I finally just gave in and paid the $5 for two months. Gotta keep the community running, right?

Last week: The smell of lingering cigarette smoke was deemed the worst offender.

This week, I thought I'd stick with the consumables theme. Next week will be an elimination round. Yay!

Year 2 - Poll #25
Rotting meat (chicken, beef, pork, monkey, roadkill... whatever) - 106 (33.7%)
Rotting seafood - 209 (66.3%)

Last Week: Rotten eggs won, but mostly because a large percentage of (very, very lucky) people said they have never smelled spoiled milk. Consider yourselves lucky people. I can't help but wonder if we forced everyone to smell it if they would change their minds...

This week, we'll talk about vices. First, keep in mind, we are talking about SMELL ONLY - not discussing the merits/problems of using any of these drugs, or the fact that lingering marijuana smell could cause arrest, depending on who smelled it..

Second, I realize some people have not had the opportunity to smell marijuana, or possibly even stale beer. Fairly sure everyone has smelled cigarettes, but I suppose it's possible that you haven't. Do your best :)

Year 2 - Poll #24
Lingering cigarette smoke (the day after the party) - 171 (47.2%)
Spilled stale beer (carpet/furniture, the day after the party) - 130 (35.9%)
Lingering marajuana smoke (the day after the party) - 61 (16.9%)

Brutal honesty - 97 (26.8%)
