Ficathon is run by
maderr and
rykaine.
This is an original slash ficathon. For those who don’t know, that means the pairings are all male/male (ordinarily, I’d do female/female as well, but obviously that wouldn’t quite work. Maybe something can be arranged next time).
Characters are not limited to any particular place, time etc. You can design a human in modern day, something fantastical, sci-fi, nonhuman characters, whatever. Just keep in mind that some people might not feel comfortable writing about certain things. By the same token, we want everyone to be creative and have fun. So enjoy, but don’t go overboard.
Current Running:
Part I
*sign up through March 1st
*run until April 1st
Part II
*sign up through April 1st
*run until July 1st
To sign up:
*go here
*comment with which parts you're signing up for in the subject line
*be sure to provide: name you go by, email through which to contact you, any websites you want listed
Part the First – Putting Names in the Urn
If you’ve ever Trained a Key for the Palace of Keys, this will be familiar to you. If not, don’t worry, it’s loads of fun.
In order to “pick” names out of the urn, we first need names to put in it. That means we’re creating characters. If you want to participate in this part of the ficathon (and I encourage you to do so if you want to write a story), all that is required is the creation of a character. If you would like to create more than one, by all means, but I think I’ll cap it at three per so I don’t wind up with too many.
Characters need to include:
*Name
*Physical appearance (build, hair, eyes, scars, tattoos, etc. human? Elf? Dragon? You get the idea). Don’t get carried way, we’re looking for a good idea of what this character looks like, but we don’t need a three page play-by-play.
*Personality – again, don’t go on for three pages, but give us a good idea what your character is like. Good with magic? Shy? Hostile? Loner? Explain it all here.
*Life – Rich? Poor? Nomad? Tell how this character has lived, what he does, any important events or moments.
*Anything else you can think of that is pertinent for the recipient to know.
*Keep it concise – informative but brief.
*Don’t write a character that might seriously squick someone out. Remember, you don’t know who will get your character. We want this to be fun for everyone, and it’s no fun if someone is too intimidated or upset by his or her character to write. If you’re not sure, don’t write it.
Part the Second – Drawing Names
While I would like for everyone to be able to ‘draw names’ themselves, my head hurts trying to work that out. So, names will be randomly selected and assigned (but don’t worry, you won’t get your own character unless I really manage to bungle things, in which case you get a redraw). Every participant gets to 'draw' one character. If you’d like to write more than one story, contact
maderr or
rykaine.
To reiterate – each player gets to choose one name (that is, you’ll be randomly given one character) unless you’ve worked out something with myself or rykaine. Who he’s paired with is entirely up to you. It’s your story, all we’re doing is assigning a random character as opposed to your usual challenge or theme.
Remember the basic premise of these stories:
The city's bachelors would then each choose a name out of the urn and become paired for the year with his chosen woman.
Except, obviously (if you haven’t noticed yet), the pairings are all male/male. You are of course welcome to play loose and fast with this premise – for instance, the stories do not have to be based on the lottery. They can be stuck together for a wholly separate reason. If you want to stick to the literal idea of a drawing, you are welcome to do so. The general theme is that, for one reason or another, the characters are paired together for a span of one year.
All rating levels are accepted, though I expect everyone to behave appropriately.
Any questions go here. If that does not have the answers you need contact
